^Nope, I am pretty sure Burning Man has always sucked. You always hear how and say, "It was better last year." maybe that is why I go back, just to prove it was better last year.
This is worth 10 minutes I think. It is the South Africa Regional. Besides just being cool, the production is first rate .... (watch in HD if ya can) cr****
^Nice Video. There are regional burns popping up everywhere, from Asia to Antarctica you can find a burn on every continent and they all follow the same prinicples. I love that some of Burning Man is finding its way into our everyday culture and speading, maybe this planet has a chance.
But Burning Man still SUCKS. It was better last year. Not sure I would go, if I was you.

I have never been there and I have tried to hit what I think are important fests thru the years. One day it is, there will be no way I will miss it. The next day it's , damn Phish is playing 5 miles away that week. I do already have BMan tics though.
The "Temple of Whollyness" will be a big burn! I might like it. The "Pistil" they did last year was a very strong structure. Extra sturdy for not having any nails and or glue.
Well, someone(thanks Idio! sorry you friend could not make it) had to go and do something nice and now I have a ticket to Black Rock City, so I guess I have to return for another year of Dust.
SheisCindy, Idio, and Sugarhigh I will be seeing you all at STAG camp, but others out there, lets meet up! Daniroo, where are you camping? Does Portland have a CORE project? Canexplain, you have a ticket? Where are you camping? Any questions? PM me. Johnny dildo, you coming back? Who else?
Well, I do not about any of you others, but that sure was about a waste of time. WTF. The dust storms? The sound bleed was awful! Early Monday night they were still working on the Man and no one could go inside and other times as well you could not go inside, Like Thursday night it was closed at times and Saturday as well. The Sun, OMG, the sun was so quacking HOT! Did anyone feel that heat? I will let you all in on a little secret, it's a Scorcher!! and the line for Ice was so longgggggggg! Who cares if " well it moves fast" carp. At 1:00 at the day hottest time, I want ice and now I have to wait for it. Come on man. and the LEO, they were pulling people over left and right, for stupid shit, like obstruction of TAG and non working lights and going 7mph, when the speed limit was 5mph and having an open container. Serious. The weddings, so many people getting married. Why do so many people get married in the desert and the more concerning part is who is allowing and officiating these unions?
alright im doing this next year, now i just have to figure out where to start
Start NOW! First I would look into Scorched Nuts, I am actually being serious, It is in May in OH and would be a great introduction on what to expect on the Playa, but by the time that rolled back around you will already have been in full planning mode for 2014 and have your ticket. I hear SC is an awesome time though. They are other regional burns in that area, I would look into those. We have a large group from Cincy in our camp, if interested PM me.
In the mean time... Start HERE (<---click it) or HERE
Unfortunately regionals are out, its probably gonna take some serious finageling to get roo and burning man off of work, and if I can get another weekend itll be moems. But I do want to start planning like right now just not sure if I want to go super solo or try to jump in with some people.
Scrog - thank you again, that went exceedingly well. I should up a pic of our marriage certificate
I was also able to give an appropriate send off to a cookie give to me by our dearly departed friend, CarpeDiem - www.facebook.com/CarpeDM01 if you scroll down on his page, you can see what I'm talking about.
But in all seriousness, don't go. You'd hate it. It's only because I like wasting money that we're considering going again. Hell, maybe I'll buy tickets and not even go, just so no one else has to endure that.
I've been thinking about it and I think a good...gulp.... 30 year birthday present for myself next year will be Burning Man. Get ready for the questions Scrog.
I'll check out all your links and try to research as much as I can so I don't bother you with toooo many questions, but I think I'd absolutely hate it and I want to see first hand how awful it is.
Hoping to get tickets for this year! Planning on building a Geodesic dome rather than a 10x20 carport and tent setup. The Geodesic dome seems like it would be easier to stake down and possibly cooler during the day with some reflective material on the outside of the dome. Anyone have experience with either of these setups? With a dome we would just hang up our hammocks for sleeping and would eliminate the need for air mattress/cot and a canopy shade structure.

Burning man sucks! I would not go, but if you do...
Geodesic dome over the carport and tent. If the right wind gust hits your car port, it will be airborne. The curved structure of the dome helps keep it on the ground and you can hang your hammock inside, which is key. Be careful adding reflective material, wind gusts shreds anything not tightly secured.
For what it is worth, i live by the hexayurt! It is cool, light weight and offers large amounts of space. Check it out. Only draw back is bulky for transport. Light weight but bulky(4'x8'x1"), like carrying a king sized mattress. I live in Florida and it fits on the back of my truck no problem, I have seen people carry them on top of their car though.

Registration has started for Burning Man. If you plan on going, you probably know this already. The website does not seem to be functioning correctly though.

After your mention of it, I started on a 3-d model of a hexayurt. I really like the idea since a tent does not seem like enough, and after the festival I could use it for temporary storage when I decide to clear out my dads storage room.
I am guessing the silver insulation stuff is best for the festival, but if I did it at my house, I would use plywood and probably add some type of roofing cover.
How hard is it to get tickets? I am guessing it will sell out super fast. If it is anything like the registration, then I am guessing it will be luck of the draw getting through.
Tickets will sell FAST!!! If anything like the past few years. Good luck.
I love the HY design. Beside geometry, the another great thing about this design, you can build the structure with 12 sheets of 4'x 8' and do it with no waste.

Right now it is me and one friend registered and she is an art nerd who really wants to go. I will be buying 2 tickets if I can get ahold of them, and after that preparation will begin.
I haven't participated in any burner events, so this will be trial by fire, but all my festival experience has been in preparation for a self sustaining week on the playa. As of now we have no group affiliation, and will play it by ear if I can secure tickets. Good luck.
Congrats on the tickets. Not an expert, but willing to answer any questions you might have about the Playa and Black Rock City. Be ready for the worst time of your life while having the greatest time of your life. Funk yeah!!
