He may have pissed off Masseria....but they may work as allies in the next season. That message Nucky sends of how we can start new or go to war was interesting. I wonder if Masseria ends up working with Nucky now and they say screw Rothstein.
I do think Mellon will be a problem for Nucky though.
Hoping next season we start to see Lucky and Meyer take on the old dogs. Meyer was fantastic.
Also....great news fans of the wire: George Pelecanos and Dennis Lehane will be writing for Boardwalk Empire next year.
Dave, I remember when we were talking about potential death scenarios for Gyp, you said you'd be disappointed or thought it'd be anticlimactic if Tonino killed Gyp directly.
I said it would be disappointing if Tonino killed Gyp as part of some revenge for the cousin Gyp beat to death. Tonino killed Gyp so Nucky wouldn't shoot him in the face. A little different.
Also, thanks for the spoiler interview where you ruin Gillian's fate, d*ck.

You did this with me and Jon Snow, you big jerk.
(I was also suicidal, so that was probably a good thing you did)

Yea, I think it would have been cheap if Tonino just did it for revenge. It was more of a "Either you kill Gyp or we kill you" thing. The revenge is like an added bonus.
Maybe I'm being dumb here, but when did Nucky get with Tonino? Gyp's death seemed rushed and it did nothing for me, especially since he was stabbed in the back, which almost gives him some sort of redeeming trait in his death.
Tonino was the guy hiding in the closet at the end of the episode when Nucky and Eli found Gillian in the upstairs hallway.
A ha. Thanks. That is a lot better. I felt like him literally "Kicking the bucket" would come into play later, but I had to leave the TV right after that. Thanks for the info.

He was the only one left at the Commodore's mansion when Nucky/Eli arrived. They didn't show it but we're to assume Nucky made a deal with him instead of killing him.
I didn't feel like it was rushed. They were building to it since the failed hit in Tabor Heights.

Honestly, I wasn't a fan of Gyp's death at first. In my mega-post, I originally had a reaction to it, but I cut it out because I wasn't 100% sure about it. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Gyp had kind of a duality about him the whole season. At one point, he was an absolutely terrifying violent man. At the other, he was not the sharpest knife in the drawer, had negligible social skills and was repeatedly dissed by Masseria and his wife. There was definitely something tragic about him seemingly reaching the zenith of his power in episode 11 just to have it pulled out from under him in episode 12 due to a deal Masseria made behind his back. For all the power he felt he had, he just ended up a sad, crazy man dying on some random beach after being betrayed by his right hand man so the right hand can save his own skin. The best villians are the ones that you can empathize with to a certain extent, and I think the way they did his death meant a ways towards cementing the groundwork that they had laid earlier in the season.
The only tie-in I can see with getting stabbed in the lungs is that it caused him to suffocate to death, which is something that would get him off during sex.

Can someone please tell me what Richard is up to?
The season opener didn't disappoint. I felt last season really drug, until the last two episodes or so. The love affair between Nucky and Billie took up way too much screen time. Hoping things stay with about the same pace as the premiere.

Apparently HBO has one of those behind-the-scenes things that explains Richard's story a bit, but I refuse to watch it. My gut tells me he went home for some soul-searching, because in the intro they show the scene where he talks about not going back there for a very long time. Maybe he's on the run from something and figures that's as good a spot to hide as any?
the men he killed in the episode? Who are they? Is he a hired gun now? If so, who he is working for?
Those are just some questions I'm hoping some of you more devoted followers can maybe answer. I love the show, but I'm having a hard time recollecting last year. (beside Gyp dying, which was great)
I always thought Richard was destined to play a greater role in the larger plot or maybe avenge Jimmy's death somehow. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I'm kinda hopeful he is quietly dismantling some of Masseria's empire or maybe even Nucky's. He hated Gyp and the whole crew of men living there at Gillian's, so I just have to wonder who the hell is he killing? Maybe loose ends he wants tied up?
I certainly need to watch the behind-the-scenes on Richard. I hope this season involves him more, in some fashion.
I hope they keep Patricia Arquette around for a long time. She is so perfect for Nucky's "other half." But, everyone close to him dies, so I expect her to not last very long The punch to Nucky's face last night was hilarious.
