We really should just put a moratorium on any Kanye threads/posts unless he happens to be announced as playing. The whole thing is a stalemate - there are some people who feel that he sullied the virtue of Bonnaroo, and that he's worse than Hitler, and won't ever change that opinion, and there are some people who basically don't care if he's an egomaniac and enjoy his music, and don't hold him to some arbitrary moral standard just because he's a musician. These things won't change, and debating them ad nauseum is exhausting.
Regardless of your stance, everyone should agree with this post.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

I ALMOST went with Joe Biden, just because I'm such a fan of his work in the Onion. However, I figured it's time to bring the classics back. A throwback like the Barkleys, you know.
if you go back to any sports related peeps, give jim rome a trial run.
Kanye's behavior at Roo'08 show was unacceptable. I am definitely a supporter of that. The Bonnaroo fanbase still has alot of anger over that issue, and it will be probably be that way for a long time (there's just no way he can erase those chants...at this point its basically legend)
To those who think Kanye should come back to the farm because of those sales, give me a break. He's not the end all, be all, no one should feed into that. It's a discredit to other rappers that are currently performing that are still way better than Kanye. Like if 'Roo could book Dre with the crew on The Chronic that would kill. Eminem hasn't played, he would kill it. Or a much anticipated reunion of Outkast, they would kill it. So give him some respect and a little less hate. But still shout F** Kanye.
What behaviour? Ppl are acting like he pulled a MF Doom www.theboombox.com/2010/02/15/mf-doom-disappoints-chicago-crowd-with-another-imposter/ or intentally put on a show at 4:30 b/c of his ego (Despite plenty of evidence pointing towards the time to build his set). Ppl don't want him back b/c of sales, they want him back b/c he's got amazing music and how about being able to put on a great show that he wasn't able to do before.
And Dr Dre? I don't think he's preformed live since the Up in Smoke tour and was never a great or even good rapper to begin with. Eminem? No thanks. Good rapper but he hasn't made great music since the early 00's. And please no Lil Wayne, don't hate him but I've heard he's horrible live, has walked off many stages b/c of being hit with a bottle. Outkast or just Big Boi, A Tribe Called Quest, (the already confirmed) Black Star, The Roots, Ghostface and maybe a dew other wu members, Beastie Boys, De La Soul, Common (If he doesn't play anything off his last album), Flying Lotus, The Pharcyde, Del tha Funkee Homosapien or Deltron 3030, Cunninlynguists, Edan, KRS-1, Madlib or any of his off-shoots and maybe even Madvillain (But if he pulls his villain routine and brings out ppl will cry for decades if they're still upset at Kanye), Wale and few others I'm sure I forgot would not only be great hip hop but would work well with a Bonnaroo crowd. Nas, Jay-z & Jay Electronica was a great combo to have last year. Hopefully this year will try to outdo.
One question, were you there in 2008? If your answer is no, you have absolutely no valid input on this subject.
The set was in place and ready, and he still didnt start for 90 minutes.

If you disagree with my rap choices, that's fine Zuma. The ACTUAL point is that they are plenty of other rappers that are good LIKE The Roots, Ghostface (Hell the Wu in general, they did a reunited tour this past fall) that should be taken into consideration over Kanye. And yeah, Kanye has made some good music as I stated in my post, but not enough to overcome some of his vanity qualities that resulted in him not being in TN when he was obligated to do a show there, or that in his video "Jesus Walks" he likened himself to Christ. He may have some skill but it doesn't overshadow the fact he's done some douchebag things. Now that I have said all i can say about Kanye, i should stop cuz it only adds to his publicity.
By the way Zuma. How can you be a hip-hop fan and not be down with Dr.Dre performing the Chronic at Bonnaroo?!! That Up in Smoke Tour with Snoop Dogg and Eminem is considered one of the best rap tours of the decade. Yeah Dre isn't the best rapper, but if you had a type of thing where he can bring on a bunch of guest performers, he would own. "Gin and Juice", 'Nuttin but a G Thang", "Keep them Heads Ringin," "Guilty Conscience", "What about Dre?", the list just goes on. He's a legend of hip-hop.

quack Kanye[/quote]
How do you know that it was ready? Just b/c the set is in place doesn't mean that the wiring and technical aspects of it were done. Oh I'm sorry you were in the crowd 200 feet away so you know everything that was going on backstage.
I think it's funny that ppl actually think that for ONLY Bonaroo (Didn't have this problem at Lolla that year or his tour) he decided to come out 2 hours late, piss off fans and ruin his light show.
Not saying he's perfect by any stretch (The ending of Phil's set early to play alone is bs) but ppl love build up their hate for ppl they don't like by always taking in any events or info through their filter to fit their preconceived opinion.
I wouldn't be against Dr Dre preforming it but not wishlisting it. Dr dre is close to 50 yrs old and like I said not that great of a rapper so seeing him live isn't a necessity to me. I would be more excited for Snoop to preform all of Doggystyle like for Rock The bells. Snoop has played a bunch of festivals and knows how to work a crowd, Dre has been locked in a studio for the last 10 years working on a mythical album that may or may not come out. Hip hop on a record and live performances are 2 completely different worlds. Some of the best rappers in studio couldn't finish their songs live (GZA, Rakim) b/c they either forget some of the rhymes or have no breathe control to go for an hour straight. I've seen Kanye live and he killed it. Just want to see someone I know who can bring it live (Big Boi, the roots & black star definitely do) and Dre I'm far from convinced.

I don't think he decided to come out super late and was doing it to piss off fans.
I do think that he decided to not be professional and be partying/performing in a different state the same time he should have been at Bonnaroo and been ready to perform. There's no excuse for making other acts end their show, coming out over 2 hours late, refusing to acknowledge that fact or the crowd's displeasure, and then proceed to trash the festival/fans as if they were in the wrong.
I like Kanye's new album. I would be fine with him at Bonnaroo. I was there in 2008 waiting with the masses. I watched Kanye's whole show. The bulllshit he pulled that night was ridiculous and he deserved the hate the next day. But I still like a majority of his music and wouldn't complain if he was at the festival.

Look I am pretty much with the over it people, but for quacks sake dude he was in Atlanta at Young Jeezy's birthday party he missed his plane and had to Charter a flight. If you can not put a set together in 2hours btw there is something wrong. Have you ever seen the Superbowl? They get that biznatch up and down in 5 minutes each way. The problem was not Pearl Jam, it was him not showing up until late something he is known for.
The reason people were there are irritated is that they missed either Sigur Ros or Chali2na with Galactic while waiting on him to show up. If he would have just played his original slot none of the associated problems would have come up including the schedule being wrong all day Saturday. He might come back but I doubt it personally even outside of this board I would say it is pretty popular to hate on him at Bonnaroo, at least based on all the graffiti.

I just remember the pain I felt standing in the field at the What stage while I could slightly listen to Phil Lesh's music (which I left a little early to go see Kanye) and looking over in the distance seeing the Ghostland show looking like an orgy of strobe lights and lasers and just standing my ground saying
"Kanye will be out soon. Kanye will be out soon. Don't leave.".
That's what annoyed me the most. I wouldn't have left Phil early and maybe would have discovered Ghostland early if I wasn't expecting Kanye to come out on time (or even slightly late). By now though.....I don't really care and wouldn't complain about him being back.
^I was not even there I was at Galactic with the other 35 smart people at Bonnaroo that year. I just hate all this apologist bullhonkey. Also I love the way you make it sound easier to put up a stage and set in field, like that is easier than putting a set up on a already built stage in a big flat field. It is not like bands build special sets for the Superbowl they install on their "special stage". Nobody in the world has a stage setup that takes more than two hours to set up with the possible exception of U2. You are ducking the actual point which is that he was not quacking there, he didn't catch his plane and got stuck in Atlanta. If I remember correctly he was time stamped in a Atlanta publicity photo at like 1:45 CST. Like I said I don't really care if he is there or not, but don't make bullhonkey excuses for him either.

zuma, when i saw kanye on tour in 08, he was late. Had me asking, "where are you yeezy?"
I wasn't at roo in 08, but to be two hours late, no excuse. wiring? if they can't get their wiring together on a set they've used many times, you're fired!
He does not owe me shit, hell he was the reason I was able to be on the rail for Lupe, Twalib, and Galactic. However a lot of people who were waiting on him do feel they are owed an apology. I am sorry but apologizing after a fuck up like that is a basic courtesy.

Was he 2 hours late? Was there a scheduled time for him to preform on his tour or are you just counting 30 mins after Rihanna or NERD preformed?
He was about 15 mins late for Lolla, Radiohead was 10 mins. and RATM was 25 mins and ppl were going crazy (Don't know about NIN or Wilco since I didn't see their sets).

NO.... I am a firm believer in forgive and forget, but I'm not much for repeating mistakes. and being on the farm in '08, I can say for certain that Kanye was a huge mistake... plus I just don't foresee the roo crowd accepting him with open arms. just my opinion
