Thom Yorke
Let's say the first part leads us to a first name and the second part leads us to their last name. I focused on the throne/fort for a crab part first.
If the throne part is referring us to Great Britain, and the fort for a crab part is leading us to sand castle, than let's look for British castles. Scanning through a list of castles in Great Britain you come to York castle. York castles design/type is listed as "Shell" keep and bailey. Another crab reference.
If we're saying the "veteran and magistrate" part is referring to a previous headliner like some people are suggesting, than we have are connection to Radiohead.
The "character of sorts" part is the only problem I have connecting this clue to Thom Yorke, unless you say it's because of him being in Radiohead and Atoms for Peace.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Gary Chardonnay They would be closer RT @cokes311: garychardonnay It seems that most things are frigid at the moment. Would sand castles be any better off?
I've been stalking for a bit, however it would take me ages to sift through all the pages. What of Crystal Castles? The Castles part would fit... Robert Smith from The Cure recently did vocals for one of her tracks - with his background he may fit the first part of the clue.
Gary Chardonnay No link to St. Augustine. RT SteveoKnievo: garychardonnay Fort Matanzas in St. Augustine? Getting any closer?
Maybe something to do with the Titanic? Arguably the most famous (can't be abdicated) maritime disaster in history, but now a fort for crabs. Or, maybe some other sunken vessel?

What do the Titanic/Lusitania have to do with the rest of the clue?
Gary said sand castles were getting close, "So castles made of sand fall in the sea eventually." If this is the right track, we'll bend the rest of the clue to fit.

Alright, thinking about this clue for a bit: I poked around with the crabs building a fort deal and through crabs with an ess on the end can't build forts. Why? Because, crabs have a "king of the hill" logic when it comes to each other, ie bucket full of crabs where they all can get out if they help but instead they pull each other down. So no forts for crabs, but this is not a red herring I don't think.
Where can crabs go for protection? An aquarium. Now you tie in the other part of the clue which is a throne one can't abdicate. If you think about it, a unit protects the throne, ie marine unit that is in the Marine Corps or Special Forces regarding foreign countries. And the first part of the clue fits Colonel Bruce Hampton, but I'm afraid my answer got lost in the shuffle.
So my answer is a reunited Colonel Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit.

Could it be someone thats from Queens NY, or from another place with a typpe of royalty in the name. I know that Nas is from Queens, and he would definitely be a veteran...I'll have to think about the rest of it

i dont know if im taking this statement from gary in the right way, but maybe he wants us to focus on something cold for the fort? twin shadow has a song called "castles in the snow", and he is playing coachella. snow crabs are also known as queen crabs, and they cant abdicate that throne because they dont even know they have it.
his name is george lewis jr (a name he partly shares with civil war veteran george lewis gillespie, jr, who is from tennessee) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Lewis_Gillespie,_Jr.
Rooin' since '05...(except 2014...worst June of my life!)
"Hey Peter Frampton! Do you like toast too? Yes, as do I. It is warm and crispy, and a perfect place for jelly to lay. Now stay the hell away from me Frampton, I ain’t got sh*t to say to you!"
This is kind of way off the path that this thread is going, but does anyone else think The Decemberists fit it? The definition of decemberist could cover the first part. new album called the king is dead, plus they're touring and seem like they could be there. little lost on the crab part though. I don't know. My head hurts. Someone rip this guess apart.

First of all, the name itself is a "character of sorts" since it's a play on words for Charles Barkley
Then, the first part of the clue could definitely be Danger Mouse. He is a veteran in the producing world and definitely a character at his shows. His name is also based off the lead character on the cartoon Danger Mouse. Not sure how magistrate fits yet...
And the second part could be Cee-Lo Green, if only for the play on words of "cee" and "sea" (a fort for a crab). The throne one cannot abdicate is definitely harder to pin down, but he did play Godzilla in an adult swim cartoon, and i've seen that mentioned around. Also, he was on the soundtrack of Kung-Fu Panda, which is about a panda who is named the dragon warrior through a vision (cannot abdicate because it's a prophecy?)
"I mean, Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees." "this whole situation has just turned his whole life upside down face."
2012: RHCP, Phish, Beach Boys, Aziz, The Roots, Alice Cooper, Superjam, Blackstar, The Word, Luda, Flogging Molly, Spectrum Road, Umphrey's, Black Lips, Gary Clark Jr., Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Trampled By Turtles
Do you think the clue is describing a 3 piece band consisting of a "veteran," a person who has been in music for a long time, a "magistrate" or "character of sorts" (no idea on that one) and a drummer who is extremely talented (double meaning on a throne that can't be abdicated, meaning a drummer (throne) who is not rivaled by many other drummers?
Oysterhead?
Veteran = Trey Anastasio (tours, etc) Magistrate (character of sorts) = Les Claypool Drummer = Stewart Copeland
I am 97% sure Oysterhead will not be at Bonnaroo. I have been told by a very reliable source that if Les comes at all, it will be with Primus.
Twitter says that was 5 hours ago, which would have been just a little ways up this page, so we can pretty much rule out anything we've said up to this point.
