not sure why people think eminem's got what it takes to headline bonnaroo. also not sure why people think a rap headliner is a lock because we've had 1 rap headliner in the history of this fest. yeah there were some big names and late nights and other stuff but i'm willing to bet the 2 big rap names on the bill are the roots and black star.
insider said it was a rap headliner and said it wasn't lil wayne or kanye
Insider also said last year, when she told us about Jay Z, that she would rather see Eminem on the farm. She very well might be getting that wish this year.
Most Rap fans who don't like Em, don't like him because of the context of his music. He's not the shoot-em-up, sell drugs, urban-life rapper that most listeners are accustomed to. He can be very dark at times, and very off-the-wall. Some of his songs, especially some of the ones off Encore, are just straight up too goofy for anyone to get into. But fact remains, there is not a rapper out there, that matches the capability that he has when it comes to word-play. He is phenomenal in that regard.

My guess if you asked most of the hip hop and rap acts being mentioned in most threads on this board who the current best rapper is Em would win the voting. It wouldn't be a landslide but he would win. He gets a lot of respect from people in the game and that says something.
It seems like at the end of bonnaroo last year or shortly thereafter I heard or read something about eminem being a target. Maybe they were playing eminem after the DMB show. For some reason my memory is a little hazy.

Whoever that was that said Kanye is better than Eminem, please sit your ass on the couch and don't bother coming to the farm this June. You won't like it.

^This...also, whomever said Kanye was a better MC than Eminem, don't let me catch you on one of my patented Saturday beer tent benders.
I'm not totally sold on Eminem headlining Roo, but he is a phenomenal freestyle MC, he writes good songs (most of the time, as w/ all artists), appeals to a wider audience than most other rappers, and I've heard almost all good things about his stage shows.
Yep, I think this pretty much sets it in stone that Eminem is the headliner, whether or not Dre is with him is the second part of the story now. That, or Insider was wrong.

I know Kanye isn't the most popular person around here, but having seen him and Eminem I can tell you without a doubt in my mind that Kanye is the better live performer. I saw Eminem at Voodoo two years ago and it was one of the worst live experiences I have ever been witness to. The crowd he attracted was beyond horrendous. It consisted of multiple fist fights, a man urinating on another, obese women wrestling each other in the mud. I felt like I was at the gathering of the juggalos. I would have left had it not been for my friend who was celebrating his birthday that day and is a big fan of Eminem. I realize that most of this is about the crowd and all I have to say about his live show is that he doesn't really elevate himself above your average rap show like Jay-Z or Kanye does. He's not backed by a great string section and one of the best djs around like Kanye nor is a backed by an extremely tight band like Jay-Z and Em has far too many hype men running around on stage.
Kanye on the other hand has always put on a good show when I have seen him and have had zero problem with the crowd that comes with his shows. I understand what happened at the Roo a few years back was inexcusable, but I would say as a whole he has a pretty darn good track record when it comes to being a live performer.

Insider specifically said NO to Kanye. Get over it. Its gonna be Em and Dre.

Try and follow along. Where did I mention that Kanye was playing or that he should play bonnaroo? I suspect that Kanye will never play the Roo again nor should he after he handled himself there. I was making a case that although Kanye may or may not be a better MC than Eminem he is certainly a better live performer.

People like you are dicks. Straight up. He's simply relaying some information this guy has experienced. Keep your pessimism to yourself.

Take this for what it is worth but I have a friend that works at a hair salon in Murfreesboro that works with Paul Mitchell (the hair salon) and Paul Mitchell work's with AC/Superfly's artist's at Bonnaroo and they have been told that Dre & Eminem are fully confirmed for Jay-Z's spot this year. The people that hate on Eminem will not have to see him if they do not want too, but for the people that enjoy him (especially w Dre) are going to have a blast. If you judge Eminem by all of his early stuff, then you are not doing him any justice. Check out his recent album "Recovery" because it is nothing like his older (vulgar) material. Also, like Jay-Z did last year, Eminem is turning his career from the more shock material to superstar status like Jay-Z has. It is not like he doesnt know that he will have to prove himself in front of one of the most musically critical crowds when he performs at roo, and will bring all he has to win over people that do not think fondly of him (hence the reason Dre is going to be with him, and you know that Coachella is going to be livid since they were not able to get there hometown hero Dre on their festival while little ole Manchester, TN is going to be his first festival appearance back prior to his album coming out).
So for the people that do not want Eminem near the farm, they are going to have to get over it like they had too with Kings of Leon, Bruce, Tool (which to all of the Tool haters, they are going to hate that A Perfect Circle are going to be there), and insert any other band that has come each year since the inception of Bonnaroo that was going to supposedly "ruin" the roo "vibe".
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

Your welcome. I also posted this in rumor/quasi confirmation thread so that the mod on that thread can take this info and use it or just ignore if they want to. No matter what each year people will say that one artist/band/etc is going to ruin the roo, and the only one that succedded with that was the clusterf*(k Kanye Douchebagg. Remember, that was the year that eveyone was excited to give him a chance because of his "pretty lights and glow in the dark" schtick, but hated that Metallica was playing that year. Well from my experience, and from what this forum looked like after the roo that year, everybody stated that Metallica excedded expectations, and brought the house down.
Bonnaroo is meant to expand music to the masses, not confine it to a single genre and closed mindedness.

So you're telling me that AC/Superfly, who are notoriously stingy with inside information, as wary as they are about lineup leaks in the wake of previous years, has alerted their HAIR STYLISTS that Eminem and Dre would be headlining?
