guys, can we be mature and stop with all the negativity?
I understand many aren't happy about the lineup since the music isn't that appealing to many and you have the right to be (and to nicely decline the idea of goin to EF), but it's kind of rude what some of you guys say and I feel like I should take offense. I'm not a raver and an addict or anything out of control like that (it's not my everyday lifestyle, at least. I'm often "straight edge" actually) but I dont mind the scene and am actually contemplating going to this, so any chance we can try to keep this thread for those still interested and leave the immaturity out of here?
I understand having to choose between this and another festival or being upset at the cost and/or distance (I know I am), but some of us are still interested and you're kinda ruining the excitement for us. No matter where you go, there will be people who won't like the music, who don't know their limits, who use dr*gs for an escape from life, who are immature, party poopers, etc. Let's try to look past that and see that there is still a boatload of friendly people out there and encourage the more mature, responsible types to attend and change the stereotypes. Plus, the way I see it, this genre of music seems to be getting more popular.

Please...and thank you!
Well at some point you have to call something what it is. This board does not sit around trashing electronica all day or anything, in fact it is usually the opposite. However when a festival puts out a pitiful lineup with literally no top tier acts, and the only rock and roll is REO speedwagon there will be some talk. Especially when the final ticket price is like 30 dollars less than Bonnaroo.
I think peoples biggest issue is the idea that Madison House is cashing in on a festival everyone was really excited about by only booking a few of their marquee artists, and getting one other company to book a few of theirs. If it is really harshing your buzz that much head over to infobury I am sure they are a lot more excited about it than we are. I just do not see the draw personally of paying that much for that limited a lineup because it is held on a resort in Michigan with trees.
I went in there and it feels like there's still more activity here, lol. Even made an account there this morning. I actually think I'm seeing more positive vibes on Facebook. There are still some quite disappointed fans on infobury.
They wouldnt have made this festival if it didn't appeal to someone out there though, right? I think the hard concept for people to get over is comparing it to the original Rothbury and wishing it were more similar/comparable. The thing that keeps me goin is that they might still surprise us with future additions. They might not be headliners but sometimes those smaller acts make it great. Everyone gives up so much hope when 1st lineup announcements are made for fests, as if it's the final lineup, but I completely understand people's disappointment. Maybe half the reason I'm optimistic is not only that I prefer electronica a lot of the time for fests, but cause I've never even had the chance to go to Rothbury. Sherwood forest, the lake, etc are half the reason I'm tempted to go. It's not all about the lineup for me. It's the package. Whenever people complain about certain artists being there, they dont realize it can make it easier to schedule what you wanna see and to rest more.
*shrugs* Eventually, people will stop whining in here I guess as the shock of the lineup release wears off. See it optimistically as more money saved or used towards another fest. I'll try to deal but I wish people would be more respectful about their dislike in EF.
On the positive side.... there will be plenty of elbow room. I hope REO closes with "Time for me to Fly." That's my jam.
Anytime I hear REO Speedwagon, I'm reminded that TGIFridays used to have a milkshake named after the band. OREO Speedwagon... why I remember this small detail from my childhood, I have no idea. But I remember it was a good milkshake.

If I want to go to a resort I will go to a resort, if I want to see music I will hit up a festival. Honestly nobody would be near as irritated with this festival if it was not so freakin expensive for what it is. A couple of years ago I went to the SCI festival a zoe, (Which is by all accounts as nice as Rothbury groundwise) and I paid under 100 dollars for a very superior lineup to this one.
Also don't you think it is telling that the Shiny Happy Magic Unicorn Funboard is also a little up in arms about it. I do not doubt people will go, but I think it is pretty fair to say it is a big swing and a miss for members of the festivaling community.
I'm not sayin not to be upset. Just be mature about it, if you can. *shrugs* it's whatever, I guess. Maybe I should just shut up and let people vent for a while, lol
and yes, I know that it means somethin if even infobury's upset...but there's always gonna be downers and people that dont like a lineup or rant cause of 1 bad artist or something (ie, for this...many people dont want Tiesto there) I completely understand that people are upset. At least if it had more variety people could still deal with it better, but I expected this with the change in name/sponsoring/etc. I'm hoping next year they'll have more time to reach a broader audience and round out the lineup a bit with all these complaints and whatnot. Then again, if they get enough people, they might not care that much. Oh well... It's not the end of the world. I'm not sure I can even realistically go, to be honest.
(ps. I agree on cost. wish it was at least $150ish total to start or less even, especially if it's gonna be half the size of Roo, but still the same price range. I completely agree on that aspect, but i think Insomniac overprices stuff(?) and maybe theyre bringin in a lot of fancy visuals and whatnot? I just worry if I dont go this year and consider a future year if it's successful, then will the price likely go up? I dont wanna pay even more along with transportation, food, etc)

I seriously doubt they are ever going to be more expensive than Bonnaroo. Also I have been to several Insomniac productions and unless they have something big up their sleeve I do not think they are bringing an extra 100$ worth of visuals to the table.
That being to each their own and if you go I hope you have a blast. In my opinion though there are a lot of similar sized festivals with better lineups for less money.
I'm goin to Starscape for sure at least and a smaller electronica fest in NY. Starscape's gonna be awesome even with all the sketchy people and/or ravers that dont know their limits, but many say it's their best lineup yet, but it's not a camping festival like EF. Would love to go to a festival at the JJ resort, but even the distance alone is a bit of a worry for me. (getting friends interested, costs, time off, etc too, of course)
we shall see what the future holds. I might wait til more of the lineup gets released too to get a better idea of what I'd be in for. My gut says I doubt I'll go, but ya never know... we shall see.

LOL. Bummer. I'm sure these people were excited about bringing their festival back, has to suck for them that the lineup is being received so poorly. It really is a paltry lineup.
Have fun, Ellie, you and the five other people in attendance
haha. the infobury boards are lookin better than i saw this morning, it seems, but i feel like it's nothing compared to how active inforoo is
there'll be enough people. just maybe not quite 50k or somethin. we shall see! like i said, there's not a huge chance that I'll go, but want to keep my options open. after all, it'd be a nice break between Roo (if I go) and a camping weekend I've got planned in Aug. July is pretty boring for me right now. All Good's close and a good location too, but the music isn't ideal for me (I'd get bored easily - but that's just me). Maybe I'll stick with ticket contests and see if I can save money that way, haha. then I'll force myself to go... lol
it's not even the final lineup anyway. to each his own. not everyone's gonna like it, and that'll give the people that do attend more elbow room.
anyway... who all reading this is actually contemplating going? and where from?
I'm going, and I don't see why this can't be successful on a smaller scale (15,000-20,000 people). There's an article in today's Detroit Free Press, and it points out they are expecting fewer people than the two previous fests at JJ. The main stage this time will be where the second stage was last time. I understand why people who were hoping for Rothbury to come back are upset, but the festival is named The Electric Forest. That was kind of a heads up to me that there would be a lot of EDM.

its going to be interesting to see how this compares to the Camp Bisco lineup when it finally comes out because there will probably be a lot of parallels but Camp isnt even $200 and hopefully wont have Tiesto (although now im starting to think it might)
I just dont see how i could justify spending that much money on that lineup
I dunno, guys. It'll be smaller, but there's a lot of interest for it still, it seems. Just depends what you're into. A lot not interested, but a lot still are. Look on Facebook and maybe even infobury. Many are excited. Probably more disappointed with having Rothbury to compare to, but still... wait and see. you might be surprised. I bet 1st tier (I think only 1k available) might sell out quick.
real wooks get into festivals without buying tickets
yeah. hate those. scammers, fake bracelets, jump fences, etc. boo! I was thinkin how someone would volunteer to get in free, but you still gotta pay the full price and then get refunded afterwards, so still gotta have that money technically (unless I guess you use a credit card).
Reminds me of my friend that's constantly at festivals, always says he's too broke, and always volunteers so he doesnt pay admission.
