^^For me personally I think your right. It comes down to Red Rocks, The Gorge, and the farm. Since it's pretty obvious they are doing the Gorge, I'm lost on the other one.
The farm makes sense because it's southern and they have ties with the management. I'm leaning towards that.
The Dave shows at the Meadows are by far the most annoying when it comes to exactly what you said. I know some Hartford cops and they all say that the these shows are the worst shows there every year. I agree though about the fans. It's not the fans themselves, but the fake fans that just go for the party. I know some myself. They go and get wasted.. and don't even know any songs past the mainstream ones.
I got a brick through my window and purses stolen at a Dave show back in like 2001. No bueno.
I will be happy if the fourth show isn't NYC, because then I can buy my AC ticket in peace! But this not knowing is killing me, and there are enough people saying that Governor's Island is the place, that I am not so sure. I'd LOVE to make the Gorge, but with all my other festivals and concerts (and a trip to Cali, Paris and Mexico this year) and I just can't afford that!!

Well perhaps if needed you could swap out Mexico this year. They seem to have really gotten into mass murders/graves the past 12 months. Maybe let that one pass til next year?
It's amazing how so many people hate on Dave fans! But being a huge Dave fan (in fact, I credit his shows for teaching me to love live music!!!) I can say that stereotypes are created based on some fact... sadly. Anyway, as someone mentioned earlier, Dave has a huge following up here (I live in the Hartford, CT area), and he plays at least 2 sold out shows here every year.
I actually like the band quite a bit, though my fandom has lapsed (I stopped catching them in concert regularly around oh, 2003 or so). And I used to defend the bands' fans, too - but it's not really the "fans" that people hate, but the fake fans that go to DMB shows just to get rocked and to party. I live in the Hartford, CT area too, and I think I caught my first DMB show at the Meadows back in 1996. When I was in high school, it was absolutely an excuse to go and get hammered - lots of my friends really liked the band, but pretty much everybody I knew was at these shows, and oftentimes didn't even go in. The riots of 1999 are still pretty fresh - just a bunch of drunk, overpriviledged idiots. Even years later, the shows tend to attract that same type. It's a shame, but it's true. And no, not ever DMB fan is like that, clearly, but lots of people who attend the shows are.
modified: not sure why it posted twice, see next post. sorry guys

i can agree to point. i saw my first show around the same time as you, i just remember the first few i wasn't old enough to drive too and my parents gave us a ride. i also gave me up my warehouse around the same time you stopped seeing them regularly for the same sorta reasons. I'm a live music junky so me not seeing them regularly would be just catching them once a year. Ive seen them somewhere between 60-70 times, but i stopped keeping ticket stubs a long time ago so I'm not about to try to pinpoint that. i cant completely agree with all the negativity you hear about the fans or even "pseudo fans", its just like anything else. the popularity of anything will drive its evolutions into all kinds of directions. take bonnaroo, if you've been around since the beginning you've witnessed that too. its not a bad thing but it happens. just imagine the crowd at roo XX
Do I have to imagine the crowd at Roo XX?? I'd rather not
Mexico is already booked (it's actually two weekends from now). Not really my cup of tea (it's my first beachy vacation ever), but a bunch of friends are going and doing and all-inclusive.. so I tagged along. It was before the DMB Caravan rumors started. Oh well.. I have four festivals planned for this summer already. I'll get by without the Gorge! Besides the murders going on will keep life interesting.. Cabo here I come

Or just anything in the tri-state in general. Yeah the Meadows is awful for that, but it's not the only thing.
Should have seen the heavy pregaming on the Metro North train heading down to NYC for the Saturday MSG show last November.

^^^I can't say that I haven't been drunk on that train to go down to Yankees games.... I am a Red Sox fan however
(I was at the Friday MSG show in November (but drove to my aunt's house in Queens and took the LIRR in))

I just remember a few 20 somethings sitting a few rows down from me. They had several cans of Four Loko, plus an 18 pack of Coors Light and a 12 pack of Miller Lite with them. Just pounding. And that's only what I could see. Who needs the bar car when you brought half a small packie along.
I drove to Milford, then took Metro North from there. Crashed at my best friend's place coming back.
My friend and I brought one large can (no idea of ounces) in a paper bag to bring on the LIRR. We did it simply because we could... haha. But were terrified the entire way that we were doing something wrong

The DMB Caravan will travel to Governors Island, New York City, Aug 26th-28th and make its final stop of the year at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA on Labor Day Weekend, Sept 2nd-4th. DMB will perform a headlining set each night with performances by a diverse lineup of musical talent taking place on multiple stages throughout each day. Visit www.DMBCaravan.com for the current lineups and presale information.
The Roots will be playing both of these venues with them. Im about 80% in for NY
That info popped up on Facebook while I was on my lunch break!! SO PUMPED. I am as in as I possibly can be without actually having the tickets! I have many friends and family in the boroughs that I can stay with.

yes it seems southern fans are pretty pissed off as they feel they got shunned and were the reason that DMB is as popular as they are today. I was planning on trying to hit up the August date whether it be the south or anywhere but far west. Even better that its in NY
and i think thw August lineup is the most to my liking so far
My sources said Govs Island.. I was hoping that they were right!! Although it would have made more sense for a southern show. I am sure they did what they did for a reason.

I will also be going to the Governor's Island (hopefully, I don't yet have my ticket!). You haven't seen Dave live before?? You are in for a treat. Dave is the reason why I am so obsessed with music- especially live. I just saw Edward Sharpe this past weekend. I was a little disappointed in the overall energy, but it was still a good show and I still love him!

I plan on going to this solo on Sunday. I'm in town for work so if anyone else is going to be there, send me a message because I'd love to meet some like minded individuals.

Awe, wish I had seen this earlier! I was already there when you sent this and I don't usually do much via my phone.
Enjoy yourself?!? Sunday was FABULOUS! On that day, I caught Alberta Cross, Dawes, Fitz, Amos Lee, Dr. Dog, Grace Potter, David Gray and Dave, of course.

Anyone going to Governor's Island? Anyone been to an event there? I have been wondering about lines for the ferry after the Dave sets... After reading the FAQ, it miiiight be okay:
"I heard the ferry lines can be long, is that true?
The folks NY Waterways will work hard to provide a smooth experience and minimize wait times. There is a very detailed and thought out operations plan in place to get you to and from the island as quickly and easily as possible. We are running a huge fleet of boats that hold between 400 and 1200 people each! We have tripled our departure points to the Island and doubled the docks on Island over the last year. Boats will be able to continuously pull up, load and depart. That being said, at peak times there may be a bit of a wait and we will be launching a Twitter account that is solely dedicated to ferry information to keep folks as updated as possible. Be excited and stay tuned!"

Wish I could go to one of these.... the set list for his last night in Chicago was pretty stellar and it would be an awesome opportunity to see Dave acoustic with Tim Reynolds
