I completely forgot to put Deervana (Deer Tick's surprise Nirvana cover show Friday late night on the Sonic Stage) in my top five. That was definitely a highlight of my weekend!

1. String cheese (one of the most fun incidents I've had and I've been following them since 99'. Absolutely wild show.) 2. WSP (in the right pit the whole show. Killed it with hornsby and the megablasters.) 3. Buffalo springfield (once they fixed the sound this show was incredible) 4. Sound tribe (perfect way to come down from my cheesy high) 5. Bassnectar (seen him 15+ times and that set was one of my favorites)
1. Primus 2. Scissor Sisters 3. The Black Angels 4. Ratatat (Biased due to experiencing this in an altered state of consciousness) 5. Robert Plant (overwhelming. It was just what I needed after being underwhelmed at Buffalo Springfield)
Other mentions: Twin Shadow, Junip, Man Man, and parts of SCI and Widespread Panic.
I missed some stuff I wanted to see like Deerhunter, Bootsy and Gogol, but I still had a fucking excellent time for my first roo.
Ratatat - awesome visuals. about as good of show as can possibly be done without any actual vocals. didnt really know them that well going into the show. i'll be picking up an album or two for sure.
Robyn - really didnt know what to expect. went with my girlfriend who was excited about her. wow she is a hell of a performer and the crowd was nuts.
Matt & Kim - went in with pretty mild expectations and was really blown away by their energy. fun show. i cant believe how much jumping around they both did despite having stationary instruments.
The Strokes - i just really like them and i enjoyed seeing them do a rare daytime set. they are such a tight band. left a couple of good songs off the set list with time on the clock though.
The Black Keys - the disco ball and the awesome dark blue sky and patrick's sweat dripping off of his face the whole time. and the fact that the whole crowd of 50k people knew every word to most every song. lots of fun.
i also thought both headliners eminem and arcade fire were pretty fantastic so honorable mention to them.

1) My Morning Jacket (they are always good but Jims voice sounded so good on friday) 2) Arcade Fire (amazing stage setup, lots of energy and greatly exceeded my expectations) 3) Buffalo Springfield (sound was bad at first but the rain, neil and rockin in the free world, wow!) 4) Widespread Panic (They were spot on and Hornsby put it over the edge) 5) Dr John (so legendary, funky and entertaining)

Full Sets:
1. Primus - Got in front of the sound booth for this and really enjoyed their whole set. They jammed so well and they really pulled out the stops with Tommy the Cat closer at 4x the normal tempo. Well done Les and co. I'm also really pumped for the new album as I was extremely impressed with the new songs played.
2. The Black Angels - I've seen these guys twice before, once at Roo 07 and once a couple months ago, and this was by far their best set despite their time restrictions. The inclusion of guest sitarist for a couple songs really added that element of tension and freedom.
3. Junip - Another short but solid set that jammed hard when it needed to, and mellowed out to break the tension. I saw Jose Gonzalez Roo 08 and this group far exceeded that performance. This was the perfect way to start off an excellent Sunday.
4. Deerhunter - After getting pounded relentlessly for 35 minutes at Sleigh Bells, I needed a band to relax to. These guys fit the bill, and more - their abilities to balance different tensions in the music and resolve it was quite astounding, I felt like it was almost a journey.
5. The Meters (Set 1) - Before Dr. John came on and gave a good but sloppy set, these guys put on one hellova show, pushing the jam, and making me wish they had the entire 2 hours to stretch out even more.
BONUS: Bootsy Collins & Funk University - This is the show that I'm most conflicted about, I would like to rate it high on my list because I had some once in a lifetime opportunities, but on the other hand, it had some major pitfalls that held it back. First, the good: my girlfriend and I pushed our way to the front row after Devotchka finished their set, which was already running a half hour late (because I think Gogol Bordello got on stage before them and really screwed the schedule to begin with). Anyways, we were front and center and I got a hug from bootsy, saw kareem abdul jabaar, got some really awesome photo ops, the band was tight and everyone was partying. The bad: it really messed up everything from that point on. We were standing in that one spot for over 3 hours and got extremely tired; my girlfriend felt sick afterwards, we missed the black keys and almost all of Buffalo Springfield. She ended up going back after Eminem missing the rest of the night, which kinda put a damper on the weekend. Also, bootsy was only on stage for about half of show, and despite the hour plus soundcheck the mix was still pretty weak with Blackbyrd's guitar solos and Bootsy's vocals barely audible.

1-Gogol Bordello (Late night finally, where we could share their energy w/o risking heat stroke.) 2-Primus (always amazing plus purple parachuters) 3-Arcade Fire (the crowd was so into them, singing every word to every song) 4-MMJ (even though I left early for Primus) 5-Pretty Lights (just because)

What I'm taking from this is that people are completely cool with artists taking the stage way late and playing truncated sets without profusely apologizing, as long as those artists aren't in anyway associated with the genre of hip-hop.
If you tally how late all of these acts were together they were still collectively more on time than Kanye.
^I actually agree with you, to a point. However, none were billed as high as Kanye, none had the hype surrounding his appearance, and to me at least most importantly none were partying in Atlanta past when their set should have started. Logistical glitches are much more of a non event than people who just do not show up to the farm. Could Bootsy have been backstage getting drunk with Kareem Abdul Jabbar, sure but at least he did not post pictures of it on his blog and call us the worst audience ever.
1) Gogol Bordello- crowd wad full of energy, nice long show. Great way to end final late night. 2) Sphongle- Absolute blast of a dance party. Got there immediately after Bassnectar's last song. Perfect spot in the middle in front of the projector. So many girls there, I left that place dripping in sweat. 3) My morning jacket- They are just an awesome band with a solid setlist. 4) Primus- Better than I expected. Would have loved to stay the whole show but my trip started to go lil crazy for my liking. 5) Devotchka- Starting with their jam with Hutz on my companiera. These guys put on a great show from beginning to end. The singer has an amazing voice. Pissed my crew came back and told me I missed the trapeze artist because I was sitting down from the heat. 6) Buffalo Springfield- Neil is just brilliant. Wooooo
I still want to know why Bootsy was late. Seriously. Someone can PM me, I don't care, I just want to know.
No idea why he was late, but im so glad he was. Walking around with nothing to do after Buffalo Springfield, and I hear a band in the distance. I go check it out, and its Bootsy tearing the roof off the place. So much better than that garbage coming from the What Stage
