I love Popeye's chicken!! Its become a tradition for me and my friend to stop at the Travel Center of America just southeast of Nashville on 24. We stop and fill up on Popeye's before driving the final leg to the Farm.

Try driving the roads every time you wanna go to a mall or just to visit Lexington. Living in the small town of Salyersville (where there are four Dollar General stores and three red lights) the closest mall is literally two hours away in Lexington, and the roads from here to there are turrble, just turrble.
This may have been talked about elsewhere already, but as driving through KY last year (both ways!) was a quacking nightmare, it's good that as many people know about this as possible. I don't expect the Sherman Minton (I-64) bridge to be fixed before roo, and the delays across I-65 from Indiana to Ohio can be unbearable, depending on what time of day you cross.

I thought the Sherman Minton was to reopen sometime in March. It is a nightmare right now since all of the I64 traffic has been rerouted onto I65. If for some reason the bridge is still closed at Roo time you can expect to add up to an hour or more to your drive (depending on the time of day) if you're crossing out of Indiana at Louisville.
Dear everyone who posted about bad Kentucky roads: C'MON! It's Kentucky, fer cryin' out loud. You knew it was Kentucky before you drove into it. Did you expect a magical land where the roads are paved with basketballs and fried chicken?
Basketballs and fried chicken?
If you weren't talking about Kentucky, I'd say ...

I ate there they got that fire chicken!
You go through Nashville, you want fire chicken, and you go to Popeye's to get it? Dude.

As a resident of Kentuckt I'll confirm that Popeye's is amazing and the roads are garbage. Also, I live in Louisville and the bridge closing is a painful reality I must deal with every day.

I wouldn't worry about this. The bridge is expected to be finished up in March. The City of Louisville would be SCREWED if it's not done by derby season, they'll find a way to get it done. The construction teams working on it were offered a bonus if they finished by March and from what I've heard they're on pace.

In case people didn't know the Sherman Minton is reopen! Traffic in Lousiville has been smooth lately (with the exception of accidents on a daily basis, but that's expected here).

Prince's usually has an armed security guard, so it's cool. Personally, I like Bolton's better because they still pan-fry. AND there's a new Bolton's open that's closer to my house on the south side. Pepperfire has the highest food hygiene rating of all the hot chicken shacks. Prince's is the lowest, but they're the original. Duddits, we'll definitely be hitting up one of these. Just be prepared for the aftermath.

Re: driving through Kentucky:
I always just bring a big old road map, and my friend and I take this lovely windy backroad down through Kentucky (Route 1, maybe? I don't remember) where there are no police (at least, we go like 75 MPH and have never been stopped). It's also way more enjoyable than just driving on the highway because everything is so pretty! I like navigating "by hand," so to speak.

Never forget.
Should we contact the governor of Kentucky to tell him that bonnaroo is happening in June and we don't want to sit parked on a highway for four hours again?

Did anyone else get stuck in two hours of stand still traffic again this year? I am writing a letter to the Governor of Kentucky right now to give him a piece of my mind.

We're considering it a KY tradition now. Kind of like the Derby but slower.
I left Sunday about 5 PM heading back to Ohio....The interstate was CLOSED at around exit 33 (?). Apparently a tractor trailer overturned. detour took like 2 1/2 hrs go 24 miles
Pretty sad seeing all the closed down motels and businesses in the caverns area on the detoured route....

it was a tractor trailer + construction & blasting on the side of the interstate i thought? regardless, it took us almost 4 hrs to get past that madness. NOT OKAY.
