I think this whole two weekend trend is stupid. Fans need to get their shit together and buy tickets right away and if you don't too bad so sad, wait until next year. I honestly feel that festivals are oversaturating the market. There are waaaay too many festivals and if everyone starts doing two weekends, it will start to burn out the public on going to these increasingly over crowded music festivals and a backlash will occur.

Thanks for the link. I saw it on COS as soon as I asked
Agreed with Frank.
Also, schedule is out! It's a beautiful schedule for me... but I'm one of the Lolla/ACL double dippers, so that eliminates a handful of conflicts right off the bat. The good and bad of C3's 2012 laziness.

You know when you see a line up and you're like damn that's amazing, but then when the schedule comes out, you say, what was I thinking... well that just happened to me.

Ouch, sorry. I had a little bit of that for Lolla, ironically. But pretty much everyone I want to see at ACL is either unopposed (for my tastes) or the opposition is someone I can/will see at Lolla. There are a couple exceptions, but it's not too bad.
As someone mentioned earlier, the JW/NYCH conflict was seen coming when they released the daily breakdowns, but that conflict is so full of fail.
I'd see both of them every chance I get over 98% of other acts, so that's pretty shizzy.

I feel the exact same way. Jazzfest is the only fest that should do this.
Yeah, if you're gonna do two weekends, it shouldn't be all of the same artists on the second weekend as the first. Jazzfest is a different animal...it's like 12 straight days of late night shows and partying at nearly every venue in nola + 7 days worth of festival activities.
well obviously from a business standpoint, it is good for ACL to have two weekends. this year tickets sold out in around an hour 1/2. but i don't like it for these reasons:
1. it looses some of its "value" to me. having one wknd makes it seem more special.
2. i think there will be way more crossovers for two wknds at this fest, then say coachella's two wknds. it is not camping, which draws more people IMO and it is in a large city with a giant university. when i'm at ACL i almost feel like i'm an honorary UT student b/c there are so damn many of them around at it. i think a lot of those kids will go for both wknds.
3. i don't really believe zilker park can handle that much traffic two wknds in a row. two years ago it rained and turned zilker park into a dillo dirt mudpit (which is basically composted shit they used to grow the new grass with). the mud was so bad that people were falling down, you couldn't sit anywhere and unless you had rainboots, it fucked your shoes up. sucks to be you if you get weekend two and something like that happens again. [see picture below]
i guess all of those reasons can be excused away, but that is just why i personally am not a fan of changing it to two wknds. on the one hand, i'd rather go the first wknd b/c everything will be fresh etc but the second wknd would be cooler. i guess i will just see how i feel next year when tickets come out.

I hear you with the UT kids. I went in 08 and I can tell the majority were college kids. One of the draw backs when you have a giant state university right there in town. I can imagine what the grounds would look like if it rained the first weekend. I have been to a couple festivals in the rain and mud and seen what a lot of foot traffic can do.

Afghan Whigs and Centro-Matic playing Antone's Saturday night makes me feel less sad about missing the fest Friday. I'm suprised there are no Sunday shows. It makes me wish Neil or JAck were closing out that day even more.

I'm just speculating, but I'd think there will be a couple Sunday adds to close things down... I really, really would like a full Jack White after show on Sunday night.
I don't think there will be any more aftershows announced. Not surprised with nothing on Sunday, I think last year there was only one proper show (plus something on for brunch/lunch).
What I would say will happen are ACL tapings. Last year they had Arcade Fire, Head and The Heart, Coldplay over the Thu-Fri-Sat. Two of those were festival headliners. Moody Theater is out for Friday (Melissa Etheridge?). But I can see shows happening there on Thu/Sat, and maybe Sun.
Based on these tapings often being for "bigger" acts, I'm looking at the bill for who might play. Many acts like Black Keys, Florence, Alabama Shakes, Avett Brothers, The Roots (with John Legend), Punch Brothers, Civil Wars, etc. have taped recently enough, so they will be out. Others already have aftershows.
Leaves the likes of Jack White, Weezer, RHCP, Iggy, NY&CH. Some of those not that likely (e.g. I can't see Neil doing it, although I'd lose it if he did). I reckon Jack White is a prime candidate for Thu or Sun.

So I'm only 5 months into my Austin life and haven't been to a taping yet... is the only way to go by winning tickets or buying them second hand from those who do win? Or is there normally a subset for the general public?
JW on Sunday to close this MFer down would rule my world. Something rockingly karmic about starting a musical week off with Gary Clark Jr. and ending with Jack White.
