Just finished season 4 and am now two episodes into season 5. So far I don't like season 5. Season 3 and Season 4 were both outstanding on their own merits and its tough to pick one as better, I think.
On the one hand, I like the Barksdale crew better than Marlo, but I find Hamsterdam unrealistic. On the other hand, the school system stuff/kids and the election/fallout really make Season 4 spectacular.

the debate over the greatest season is always 3 vs 4. I preferred 3 the first time I watched the series, 4 the second time. Snoop and Chris are my favorite soldiers of the series. The scene with Chris and Michael's dad is one of my favorites.
As I'm sure you are aware season 5 is generally considered the least favorite. It's still a fantastic season of television though, and wraps up a lot of the plot lines from the first four seasons. Plus you get some great crazy McNulty scenes as well.

Last night I watched S1E9 "Game Day". Rewatching the series with my wife.
So much great stuff happened in this episode:
-The classic Omar "don't make me huff and puff" scene, when he shows up solo in the low rises with his shotgun, everyone running away shouting "omar comin", and he robs the stash house just by standing there with his back turned to the door.
-The quote for the episode is from Herc, "Maybe we won", and I love that scene when him and Carver are on the roof and they can't figure out where everyone is. Turns out everyone is at the east vs. west basketball game, where the cops lay eyes on Avon for the first time, and when Daniels decides to tail Avon a little later we are treated with this gem:
oh man that shit makes me so crazy. Furthermore Avon yelling at the ref at the game for not calling a foul, and the intimidation and fear on the ref's face, is a great David Simon reminder that Avon Barksdale is not a hero.
-Also the scene when Herc and Carver lose the money from that bust and Daniels calls them out on it, and they find it in the wheel well of their car. Daniels saying "this does not happen in my squad" makes me so terrified.
-And we end with Omar taking a failed shot at Avon
I remember all these scenes but always forget when they all happened, it was fun seeing them all happening in the one episode.
I'm watching Friday Night Lights for the first time (two surgeries in less than 3 months = down time), and I am now on season four. Wallace is the star quarterback & D'Angelo is the convict/helpful community outreach adviser helping neighborhood kids. I won't lie, I repeated this to myself over & over that episode.
I prefer to think he's playing football in Texas. So thank you FNL.

FNL is the single most addictive show I've watched. When Melody and I started watching it from episode one it was the only thing we wanted to do. We watched nothing else and rarely participated in other leisure activities. Just get some food, get home and under a blanket, watch as many episodes as possible. It was all that mattered. I've done my share of binge watching, but I've never craved a show quite like I craved FNL. Buy the ticket take the ride I guess.
And I'm glad Michael B. Jordan keeps getting roles because the kid can act. I still haven't seen Creed yet.

Yes to all of this. Started it a month ago on my own. I keep finding reasons to hang out in bed (my back was really hurt) so I can watch it. Will be done with season 4 tonight and then I only have one more season - Noooooo.
Finished the series today. Absolutely incredible show. I was honestly going to think 2 & 5's plotlines would take me out of it, but they weren't too bad, still better than 95% of any shit on tv anyways.
4 3 2 1 5
Despsite it being on the bottom, I really loved 5. Anyone else tear up when Naymond made it through?

Apparently Wood Harris, the actor who plays Avon Barksdale, was just asked on ESPN to rank the seasons of The Wire:
3 1 4 5 2
This is second hand information, so I cannot verify its authenticity, but I figured it was important enough to share immediately before confirming with a second source.

5 over 2? 5 over anything?
There's a reason Stringer had to take control.
Besides the fake serial killer season 5 is pretty great. The kids from S4 taking on new roles and trying to take down Marlo was great.
I've had the flu since Saturday night, so I've been rewatching season 3. I made one very important observation.
Lt. Daniels is either a cyborg or an alien. No human has ever or will ever walk the way this man walks. And the scenes with his shirt off make me question reality. His bone and muscular structure creeps me out something fierce.
The technology used in S2 really doesn't hold up. Watching the graphic of the containers move off the ship and "cloning" the computer really grated on me this time.
