Just started watching this show after countless recommendations from coworkers. This show has a lot of potential, especially since I've watched a few crappy shows in the last few months.

youve made the best decision you've ever made, as far as watching tv goes.
anyone who has ziggy as one of their least favorite characters and/or season 2 ranked 4th or 5th can die.
Who is worse? Ziggy sucks. So annoying how incompetent he is. Herc pisses me off too because he's a knucklehead.
Just finished season 2 the other day on a re-watch. Season 3 begins and we're full on "Omar .vs. Barksdale/Stringer" mode and Cheese doing some dog fighting shit.
ok maybe I came on a little strong but I always get butthurt when I see season 2 get sh*t on. On a much higher level than 1 and 5 imo.
James Ransone played Ziggy perfectly. The best example of single season character building on the Wire so much so that people actually hate him outside of the show (i.e. Jack Gleeson as Joffrey). Ziggy is an incompetent f*ck up in the worst way at the start/middle of season 2 but you can't help but to feel for him by the end.

James Ransome is awesome. Ziggy sucks. Ziggy is more obnoxious than charming and that's where it hurts. I wanted Nicky to be a success but Ziggy fucked shit up for him.

In general, I feel like acceptable answers for season rankings break down like this.
3/4 1/2 5
You can flip the ranking for 3/4 but they belong in the 1 and 2 spots. Same with 1/2 with the 3 and 4 spots. If you don't put 5 at the bottom, fuck you.

Place them below the Sopranos and you got a list.
BUt yeah, I pretty much agree with this. I remember someone given me hell because of were I had 2 ranked. I think I had it in 2nd? All that really matters is 5 is last.
Also, I'd just like to ask a question. What kind of asshole buys a ticket to a Clutch concert when he could drive up to Minnesota the weekend after and hang out with his friends?

Nothing really got resolved at the end of season 4, and given that Marlo and Omar are my two favorite characters, I was hoping that season 5 would show some pretty awesome conflict in season 5. I was watching some TV show a while ago that spoiled the fact that some shit gets done to Omar so I know that shit goes down, but seeing these rankings almost makes me wish I wasn't going to be watching it. I really really didn't care for season 2 though so I'll hope against hope that season 5 can best it.

Without going into detail, Season 5 has a major plotline that's really ridiculous and takes up way to much time. You'll see soon enough. Overall, it has some strong material that redeems it and keeps it from being a total train wreck of a finally season. I don't know were it went wrong, it had a potentially interesting concept that could have tied in with the themes of the other seasons. They just made some bad storytelling decisions somewhere along the development stages.

Don't worry, season 5 of The Wire is still better than 80% of television out there. It just pales in comparison to the rest of the series. Still mandatory television though.
Finally started this show a few days ago. On episode 3 of season 2 right now. Really like it so far. Only issue is I don't always understand what they're saying. Lots of cop/drug slang I'm not used to I guess.
And for anyone rewatching, Amazon has it streaming free with Prime. And Amazon's stream is wide screen, HBOGo's stream was still 4:3 for some reason. At least season 1 was, haven't checked their season 2 yet.
Edit: I had to chuckle when I saw Pornstache in season 2.

When I first watched it, I used subtitles. Really really helped me understand all the cop/street slang.
The 2nd time I didn't need subtitles. I understood everything perfectly.

Just did that an episode or two ago. For some reason I couldn't get the subtitles to work om season 1 on Amazon, so gave up for a bit.
I remember several scenes where after, I think to myself, "Man, that little bit of dialogue seemed important, but I have no fucking clue what they meant."

So just started, and by that I mean stayed up till 2am last night and watched 7 episodes of season 1. Good show so far, and now that every season is on demand I can finally get into it.
I said he was a terrible dad. That doesn't mean I don't want his face tramped stamped on me. (Seriously, though, I sincerely hope that his face is photoshopped on to that girl. I don't think I can handle the thought of that being real.)
Yea, i'm in the middle of this season with a buddy (i'm re-watching and he's never seen before) and it's such a great relationship. It's also awesome to see the two guys who were so tight in the first season and how they've become different (or in Avon's case....remained a gangsta). Stringer wants to be a businessman and it's so funny to watch him be bitched around by fat white dudes and Clay Davis. He's out of his element but wants to belong so bad.
