Still hate the Eagles, luckily its Jazz fest and there will be 900 other less crowded stages with amazing music happening during their set. But Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, MMJ, Herbie Hancock, Al Green, and Florence are all great bookings.

Ha! Trombone Shorty is the headliner.
I wouldn't think this increases Bonnaroo's chances of getting The Eagles. I don't think these two fests share headliners very often. Wasn't Bon Jovi a Jazz Fest headliner last year?

Anybody know what the radius clause looks like for NO Jazz Fest? I'm wondering if the big names here are definitely out of the question for Hangout. It looks like there's been a little overlap the past two years, but not among the 1st and 2nd tier headliner types.

As a self-professed Eagles hater, I was pleasantly surprised at how good their headline show was at ACL Fest '10. For a band that hadn't played together in awhile, they were solid musicians who put on a helluva good show.
I'd rather see the FF again (they killed it @ Hangout this year) but either will be a great show on their own...and if they pair up for a super jam? Lord have mercy, that'd be something else!
There's some good stuff on there .. but are The Eagles seriously playing BOTH weekends?
No just 2nd.
I'm impressed. Janella Monae, Bon Iver, MMJ, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Feist, RyG are all non-nola acts I can get behind. and of course the nola music is always amazing.
Both weekends still have a TBA for one headliner each weekend. I noticed the Black Keys announced a big Houston show April 24th, and so I could see them being the TBA weekend one headliner. Moreover, I have read several rumors that the weekend 2 TBA head liner could be a band waiting to finalize larger tour issues i.e. a Phish or Bruce Springsteen.
I am slated to be in New Orleans the week of weekend 1, for a software convention, so I might just be checking out Tom Petty, Bon Iver, and Iron & Wine.
I've never been, but have been considering it this year though probably could only do weekend 2. I found a schedule grid from last year and it looks like a lot of the mainstream acts overlap on the three largest stages. Wondered if anyone could give me some idea of how the lineup compares to the schedule. Do the subheadliners (MMJ, ZBB, Herbie, and the TBA) play at the same time as the headliner or just before them? Or is it not set up in any definite pattern? Also, does it usually sell out early??

Thanks!
Jazzfest never sells out, they just keep selling tickets.
There are really two main stages: Acura and Gentilly, but Acura is the "big" main stage. This is where your Eagles, Tom Petty, etc will be. Having said that each of the non-main stages also have headliners. Fais Do Do, Congo Square, the Jazz tent, Blues tent, gospel tent, etc. While its not always cut and dry which BNAs and sub-BNAs will be playing where, past cubes (schedules, available on can be helpful indicators.
Two years ago MMJ closed Gentilly, last year The Strokes played Gentilly while Arcade Fire played Acura. Derek and Susan closed out the Blues tent two years ago. The Decemberists closed out Fais Do-Do IIRC.
Herbie will close out the jazz tent.
In other words, oh yes, there will be massive conflicts. you will always be missing something amazing while you are catching something amazing at Jazzfest.
also keep in mind jazzfest only goes until 7pm. after dark shows happen in the venues and bars, and there are a ton of them.
Awesome..I can deal with conflicts and like hearing new music, but would mainly be going for BNAs, so wanted to get some idea how bad it might get with the conflicts..How early is the schedule released usually??
pretty sure it's rained at every fest I've been to...cept Rothbury and maybe a Warped Tour or two back in the day..I always bring the rain boots (or waterproof hiking boots more likely)...now my mother wants to go, so she may be in for a shock if it rains!
Other than that TBA, do they announce more large acts or is this likely it? Is ZBB really going to be a headliner??? Thursday I guess?
Does this lineup have anything to do with Bonnaroo? Meaning, if they are on this lineup does it make it any more or less likely that that band will play on the farm? (based on anything - years past, whatever)?

swag land has historical schedule release info. it's a fantastic site, check it out. iirc the actual schedule isn't released until marchish. the dailies in January.
