I wasn't planning on going thursday anyway because of Megadeth in Biloxi. Hopefully, I'll get to see Pearl Jam at DeLuna anyway, which is infinitely more exciting that a solo Vedder.
We're heading out tomorrow after work for the Grandmother of Invention show at Tipitina's. Doing all three days of jazzfest this weekend. Friday night, I'm doing the STS9 + SOJA late night show followed by the Dead Prez + Midnite afterparty. Saturday, we're doing Leftover Salmon + 7 Walkers + Anders Osborne show at howlin' wolf. Sunday we're coming back right to Mobile right after Bruce's set. Not going to feel like going to work Monday.

Thought about catching the sts9 show, it is 5 minutes from my hotel (we are in the garden district), but I'm more tempted by the anders show at republic. Saturday will probably be the big meal and crash early night. We are also leaving after Bruce Sunday. Work will be awful Monday, but thinking about the following weekend will pull me through.
I'm kinda pissed that I found out about the Gary Clark Jr show at The Parish after it had already sold out. I would have sold the salmon/walkers/anders ticket to catch that and Beats Antique afterwards next door. I guess I'll just have to settle with seeing Gary sunday at the festival (if I decide to do that and miss the first hour of Bruce) and again at Hangout, but seeing him at The Parish would have been ta-tas.
You can get into Gary.......there are always extras floating around at Jazzfest. Just get there early and hold your finger in the air. Jazzfest is a musical marathon and many people can't hang because of itis or fatigue etc
Right on about living 2 hrs from NOLA........get in and get out before you get sucked in lol Sad to miss Mickey & RR @ SK Saturday night, but what're ya gonna do
Well, I may try to do that. Leave my other ticket with you and if I can score a Gary ticket, hit you up and get you to sell my howlin' wolf one. There are no Gary tix on stub hub and people are requesting to buy them on craigslists for high dollar. I think I'm shit out of luck.
when in doubt, head to frenchmen and go to maison or dba
Sage advice.
I'm still on the ropes about what I'm doing Friday night. The Grateful Feat show was amazing last year but I'm not a fan of the Republic (they played the Temple last year)
Not a fan of STS9 but I've heard this is an axe the cables show which kick ass.
The Dumpstaphunk/Papa Grows Funk/Papa Dumpsta show will be serious heat.
June Yamagishi is one of the best guitarists alive
caddy i'm having similar issues figuring out my night. doubtful the rest of my group goes for sts9 but i will at least attempt it. the grateful feat show is what is really catching my eye, but then again the phunk/funk shows will be hard to pass up.. gahhhh
i was just informed i will be on frenchmen all night. in some sort of combination of three muses, maison, dba, and blue nile. probably not all of them.
STS9 show blew! quack that band...way worse than the Umphrey's show in terms of repetitive dance music and % douche'bags in crowd. We didn't even make it to Midnite afterwards, just went to frenchman for a while. Only went in the Maison, once we realized we could get in without paying a cover. Grandmothers of Invention and salmon/walkers/anders shows ruled.
In 20 minutes, we managed to maneuver our way through 60k+ mawfawkas and got within 100ft of the stage for Petty and he ruled that festival, imo, but that was the only set that we watched from start to finish at the festival. We watched the first half of Steel Pulse friday and the last half of the Beach Boys...both were awesome. Sunday the highlights for me were Debo Band, Pete Fountain, and Bruce. Only caught like 2 Gary Clark songs, but plan on seeing his whole set at hangout. I think we caught like part of 21-23 sets over the weekend at the fairground. Not bad.
I'm going back saturday for Wolfman, Anders, John Boutté, Better than Ezra, Steve Earle and the Dukes, the beginning of Eagles set, and then half of Herbie Hancock and half of Warren Haynes Band. Then off to Primus & Tony Clifton late night.
Yeah, we'll just post up in the back or side if there aren't any seats left. People were constantly leaving those tents last weekend because it was hotter than it was outside due to the lack of breeze.

I'm trying to figure out how much money I no longer have because of jazzfest. 4 days of fest, 4 night shows, 4 early morning frenchmen escapades, food, gas, water, and some alcohol. Pretty sure around $700. ffffuuuuuuuuuu And that's like the cheapest I could have done it too: not having to get a hotel, not spending much on alcohol, not buying any merch (with the exception of a hetti Primus poster), bringing in bottles of water with us everywhere and refilling them when possible. I can't imagine taking a whole week off of work and going to all 7 days of jazzfest and 10+ late night shows. I'd need to be prepared to drop at least $1500 next year to do that. Most epic festival ever though...the whole city of nola parties hard during jazzfest. I think next year, I may just hang outside the festival (you can hear the music from the several different stages) and sell beer/water/etc to pay for late night shows. A friend of ours did that and made over $100 both saturdays of jazzfest just selling beer.
