anyone know of a schedule that actually has times? Their website is stupid.
As far as 6-8 roo headliners: Tom Petty - Sure Bruce Springsteen - Sure The Eagles - I guess Foo Fighters - I hope it never comes to this, seriously... but I suppose they could Beach Boys - I don't think they would headline Zac Brown Band - Hell No Eddie Vedder Solo - Not a chance My Morning Jacket - Not really Bon Iver - Nah, but hopefully either a Which Closer or Late Night Florence + the Machine - Nah, but definitely a which stage act.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Eagles Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Foo Fighters (all definitely would) The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Reunion (might not, probably 4th or 5th on roo lineup) Zac Brown Band (i think if they came back, they would probably be a headliner) Eddie Vedder (wouldn't be, but still, he's eddie vedder) John Mayer (i think he would headline, unless there's someone like bruce ahead of him on his day, like jazzfest) My Morning Jacket (they will eventually, probably next year)
John Mayer sucks........never understood why he gets such high billing. Beach Boys normally would be low but this tour would be equal to Buffalo Springfield last year.
Bon Iver was unimpressive at '09.......hated having to sit through him to get a good spot for Of Montrea.
Am I the only one that thinks that these headliners are great but the undercard isn't as good as other years?
I don't know... Bon Iver, Florence, Feist, Janelle Monae, Iron & Wine, RyG, Grace Potter, Levon Helm with Mavis Staples, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Steve Earle... pretty decent set of non-NOLA artists in the undercard. but i agree maybe not quite as thick as previous years...
BUT its the NOLA artists on the list that always get me excited. even though living close to new orleans I can pretty easily catch a lot of them regularly, jazzfest is such a special time, and the sets at the fairgrounds are always awesome.

Those are like 11 bands? That's almost as many days that this festival lasts. That means you get one or 2 of those + a headliner a day.

I am going to Jazz Fest 2nd weekend this year. I have never been and was curious when we would start seeing the after shows being announced? I know some have leaked out but I was wondering if there is a timeframe when the majority of them pop up? Thanks!

Not really any particular time that shows are announced. They are usually announced as they booked.
The Original Meters are playing at Howlin' Wolf the 2nd weekend, their first non-festival show in over 30 years and it already sold out in only 2 hours.
Keep checking that website. It is the absolute best site for knowing all of what is going on as far as after shows go. They will begin to update the site soon.

I second the world famous jazzfest grids.
Typically we start to see an acceleration of night shows popping up after the mardi gras.
Definitely going to these late night shows no matter what else gets announced for those nights: 4/26: The GrandMothers of Invention PERFORMING ROXY & ELSEWHERE PLUS OTHER HITS (Tipitina's) 5/5: Primus, Tony Clifton, Dead Kenny G's (The Sugar Mill)
Still waiting on others to be announced for 4/27-28 and 5/4 before making a decision.

So, cubes tomorrow! they didn't say what time but based on past years it'll be 11ish I think. pretty excited. i get more excited about the schedule then the actual lineup announcement. i guess because i then realize what bands I actually will be able to catch.
then I love to meticulously plan my days and then throw that plan away as soon as I arrive on the fairgrounds.
In examining the Jazz Fest map, I see the Gospel and Blues Tents appear pretty close together. On Saturday May 5th, I am going to attempt to get from Aaron Neville at the gospel tent to Levon Helm/Mavis Staples in the blues tent. Can anyone with Jazz Fest Experience give me an idea of the time it may take and if I show up late, say 20 minutes in, to the Blues Tent show if I can actually see the Levon Helm Mavis Staples show? Thanks!

Unfortunately I'd bet the blues tent will be a cluster quack for Levon. I don't think you'll be able to get in if you show up late.
Actual travel time from the gospel tent to the blues tent is minimal, they are very close.
How is getting around during Jazzfest? We are staying at the Hilton near the Airport, but I'm hoping there's a shuttle or something, because I don't want to drive all over New Orleans.

Jazzfest express tickets aren't on sale yet, but they have a pickup location at Marconi meadows in city park. you'll be able to drive there and park for free, then catch the shuttle into the festival grounds.
other alternatives are you can pay to park at Cabrini high school, but that's $30. Jazzfest express is more like 12-15.
I was looking over the schedule, and it made me wince. I was looking to do this festival earlier this year but it did not work out. Kinda glad I am not going, all of my must see acts are conflicting with another must see act. On May 5th, My Morning Jacket, Herbie Hancock, and Levon Helm with Marvis Staples are all performing at the same time. I think having to choose between these three shows would make me cry.
As has been mentioned, you should haev no problem getting from the gospel tent to the blues tent, they are quite close, but the problem will be getting INSIDE of the blues tent. While it is big, they have folding chairs all in the inside, limiting the space. They normally do NOT allow you to stand in the aisles, which relegates those who do not have a seat inside to standing along the outside of the tent. You can do this no problem, but if you come during the set, or 5-10 minutes before the set starts, you may have a hard time actually seeing anything, if that's what you want to do.
And the airport is auite a long ways from the fairgrounds. Personally, I'm not sure if there is a shuttle from the airport to the fest grounds. If I had to guess, I would say no...it's a long ways. Your best bet may be to drive and park and take the Marconi shuttle, or to simply suck it up and drive. Did someone recommend you to stay by the airport? Or is that just where the cheapest hotels were? If someone recomended it, they did you wrong......

I reserved the rooms in November when the lineup was first announced and the Hilton had a Jazzfest code where rooms were $100/night. It seemed like a good deal at the time. I guess I did myself wrong.

Well ideally you stay in the FQ or the CBD for jazzfest. But even staying there you have to find transportation to the fairgrounds. It's just easier because the shuttle has pick up spots in the quarter.
Do you have a car? If so you'll be ok, you'll just have to drive a bit. Make sure you have a sober driver, NOLA is a very unpleasant place to get a DUI. And central lockup is a very uncool place. Like has already been said you can park at Marconi and take the shuttle, or try to find parking near the fairgrounds.
We are actually staying in the garden district weekend one, Metairie weekend two. I don't mind driving to Marconi.
