i've been thinking about this today, and looking back, what are some bands that you regret missing at past bonnaroos, either you saw another band instead or just was lazy and didnt want to leave your shady camp site?
mine would be
Alberta Cross '09 (i was at erick baker)
Delta Spirit '09 (i was at white rabbits)
Portugal. The Man '09 (i went back to the campsite and by the time i got back in they were on their last 2 songs)
Bon Iver '09 (i was at Rodrigo y Gabriela instead, i caught the last song and thought it was amazing though)
Cage the Elephant '09 (was packing up the campsite)
Okkervil River '09 (wasn't doing anything so i rode the ferris wheel)
Mayer Hawthrone & The County '10 (i was at blitzen trapper)
Gaslight Anthem '10 (i was at jay electronica...)
Japandroids '10 (i didn't like them as much as i do now, my cousin and i were there for like 10 minutes though but then we left)
Deerhunter '11 (i was at childish gambino, but i was so exhausted form the drive there and being up all day that i couldnt enjoy anything)
Matt & Kim '11 (that show should not have been in a tent, we got there like 10 minutes before it started, and it was so damn dusty and people were past the back of the tent that you couldnt see anything)
The Black Angels '11 (i was so tired this bonnaroo for some reason, i couldnt stay awake i was falling asleep mid show)
Deer Tick '11 (i went and i just wasn't feeling it, wish i stayed)
DeVotchKa/Portugal. The Man '11 (this was a clusterfuck, i went to devotchka when it was supposed to start but they took so long to come on that by the time they came on i would've missed the next show i wanted to go to, and if i had known they wouldve been on that late i would'v done portugal. the man)
looking back i had more than i thought haha, hopefully this year ill finally get it right
2010 Watching the 2 songs of KOL that prevented me from getting a good spot for FLips Missing Jeff Beck for someone I can't remember Picking Cudi over LCD Going to sleep too early (first roo)
2011 Missing Childish Gambino and the 420 comedy show to set up camp Not staying up for Pretty Lights Missing Donald Glover, The League Live, and Buffalo Springfield for God knows why Not even going over to tribe or gogol And going to the Superjam (disappointed)
Being a moron all day thursday wasting my energy watching Hayes Carll and Karen Elson (not that I didn't like them) up against the rail, but by the time Best Coast was over I was just about to fall flat on my face from standing for hours after not sleeping the night before after a 20+ hour drive. I was wayyy too shot to try and stay for Sleigh Bells, let alone Pretty Lights, and I seriously regret missing both of them. Gonna try and be regret free this year.
Yeah, that too. The girls I was with wanted a good spot for Em (completely unnecessary) so we pretty much bailed on waiting around at Buffalo. I heard "Keep on Rockin in the Free World" playing in the distance and literally wanted to bury myself alive. Top that off with Em putting on a mediocre set, and I gave myself a big ol' facepalm at the end of the night.

Delta Spirit got moved to a LN spot on the Thursday that year. Went to the tent at their time slot and the announcer said they would be getting moved to closing a tent later that night. It was one of the better Roo shows I have seen (I have been going since 2009).
No real regrets, I have missed acts for others but feel like I made the right personal choices. Weather and wear and tear have taken me out of the equation for some sets but surviving the weekend is always my top priority.
Bon Iver '09 (I was standing in the phone charger line for most of his show because I didn't plan ahead)
Dropkick Murphys '10 (Should have went to Ween. Also, still partially bitter because they talked smack about the Civil War)
LCD Soundsystem '10 (I'm not a big fan, but this show seems like a better idea in retrospect considering I just went to bed early instead.)
Explosions in the Sky '11 (I was at Superjam, and I come back to people raving about EITS's show)
About your Bon Iver experience... one of my friends did the very same thing... she had to go charge her phone at the tail end of Robyn Hitchcock or Elvis Perkins one of the two, so she didn't miss Bon Iver. She didn't get back until I think the last two songs.
Hmm... I've thought of these for a while, and I'm actually going to rank them:
1. Catching Superjam in 2008 over My Morning Jacket, only to go back to camp and listen to the rest of MMJ after 40 minutes of Superjam. Also, going to sleep instead of catching their set in 2006 might tie with this.
2. Going to Flaming Lips in 2007 instead of catching all of Gov't Mule... or Galactic, for that matter. The final bit of each of those shows, and they both seemed far superior to that Flips set.
3. Not waiting around longer for Solomon Burke in 2008... he was very late already, and my friends were impatient, so we just went on to Phil Lesh, I think it was.
4. Staying at The Raconteurs in 2008 over Les Claypool.
5. Missing LCD Soundsystem in 2010 because I was tired. Should have sucked it up.
Honorable mention: missing the entire day of Thursday in 2007... what a stacked lineup. Also, going to bed instead of Porter Batiste and Stoltz' set on Thursday in 2008... as well, missing NOMO in 2008, I think it was.
2011 Eminem, SuperJam & Gregg Allman - missed 'em all but watched bits of each on a tv in the press area - yeah there's a big tent back there with couches, a/c, buffett. Missed Deerhunter for Childish Gambino and the 420 Comedy Blaze. Missed Jessica Lea Mayfield for the New Orleans Allstars on the Sonic Stage. Left MMJ and Arcade Fire early cause I couldn't see and feeling like I was a mile back from the stage really killed the vibe for me. Missed Man Man and Portugal the Man for Devotchka who were something like 45 minutes behind schedule. That led to Bootsy being late and so I missed the Black Keys. Left SCI and Dr. John early cause I was just too tired.
2010 Missed the Dodos for Neon Indian. Missed Carolina Chocolate Drops for Gaslight Anthem. Missed Dr. Dog for some of Gossip and Umphrey's. Missed Dawes because of a nap. Missed Big Sam's Funky Nation for Mexican Institute of Sound. Missed most of Mumford because of the Avetts. Left Stevie Wonder early for the same reason I left MMJ and Arcade Fire in 2011. Missed Jay-Z (not really a fan) but he sounded great from my camp. Missed Lucero for John Butler. Left Bonnaroo about halfway thru Phoenix so I ended up missing the rest of that and Dave.
2009 Missed most of the Low Anthem for Chairlift. Missed Dirty Projectors for Kaki King. Missed Grizzly Bear for Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Santigold. Missed most of Al Green for TVotR. Missed Okkervil River for Andrew Bird. Then there's the Wilco/Decemberists/Elvis Costello/Grisman conflict. Wanted to see all those but only saw Wilco.
2007 Missed Flaming Lips & Gov't Mule late night sets and The National on Thursday Missed the Black Keys for part of the Roots and Manu Chao. Left Tool and the Police early for same reasons why I left MMJ and Arcade Fire in 2011. Missed nearly all of the SuperJam for SCI. Left Dr. Dog early for the Slip. Missed the Hold Steady for Xavier Rudd and Damien Rice. Missed Spoon for Keller and Ben Harper. Missed Mavis Staples and Charlie Louvin for John Butler. Missed nearly all of the White Stripes.
2005 Missed The Word to see Modest Mouse, who were probably the 2nd worst show I've ever seen at Bonnaroo. The worst show would be Gabby La La.
Also didn't go in 2006 or 2008, so that kinda sucks.
I missed a lot of good stuff but at the same time I saw some really great things. I try and look at Bonnaroo and the choices I made with no regrets.
2011 Left before the Portugal LN set and parade Left Mumford & Sons ... !!! was a highlight, but really wish I could have stuck around M&S - damn sound on Which Missed Grace Potter during naptime Missed Graveyard and the metal tent Friday, naptime Missed MMJ for the Bruins game, which they lost
2010 Left Jay-Z for Thievery Corporation Spending too much time wandering in the KoL/Bakerton Group timeslot rather than staying at one Missed Mumfords and Avetts because of heat Missed Isis because of heat

Going to Lewis Black and only catching half of J.Cole Going to Bassnectar and only seeing half of Big Boi Not staying up for STS9 and Pretty Lights Seeing Buffalo Springfield briefly to see Eminem. I should have rested during Eminem and saw String Cheese >Gogol. I only saw gogol but it was amazing. Missing EITS for Superjam.

Well I lost my phone by about 10pm on Thursday this year so no need for one of those for me at Bonnaroo this year. Either way, who stands around waiting on technology while you're at Bonnaroo?
2011: -not catching Lewis Black -skipping David Mayfield for Beats Antique -leaving early for Warren Haynes -missing MMJ, Primus, Arcade Fire (I totally blew Friday night because I was a vagina) -Shpongle instead of Pretty Lights -missing the first 1/2 of Deer Tick -Being partially behind a LEMONADE SIGN for part of Mumford -leaving right before Keep on Rockin to get a spot 4 miles away for a lame Eminem show -Missing SCI, Gogol and STS9 (couldnt do LN after being up all day - bad planning, no nap) -missing G Love -missing Galactic -Superjam instead of EITS -Leaving early during WSP (the girls I was with had to leave, which brings me to my last one...)
TAKING THE OBNOXIOUS STUPID B!TCHES I WENT WITH INSTEAD OF THE GIRL I WAS DATING AT THE TIME I AM A COMPLETE MORON
