I enjoy EDM. My favorite genre, but I don't want to listen to it during the day at Bonnaroo and be forced to dance and heat stroke out. I listen to it almost all day anyways. Wasn't talking about everyday. Sorry itrainmonkeys I didn't know we were riding the literal train when its a figure of speech.

I thought the lunar stage was amazing. Just figure out a new location so no sound bleeding.
Omar from what I was told from people who went to both Lil wayne and Bassnectar. Bassnectar won in crowd size. I do not know for sure I didn't go to wayne.

I went from Bassnectar to Big Boi to Weezy to PL that night. Weezy had the biggest crowd, followed by Bassnectar then PL.
I lucked out because PL went on late and his show went until sunrise. Weezy was not worth the pitstop, though.
Weezy was the largest, and was one of the worst shows I have seen in the 5 years I have been at Roo. So happy I left early and got to PL just before he started.
I have to say that by the time I made it to Bonnaroo I had already had 5-6 years of camping music festivals under my belt. When I got ther I thought I was ready. And I was for the most part. But it was still a shock to the system.
Have fun and don't over do it.
I never had websites like this one so I'msure you'll be fine.
Thanks, I appreciate the thoughts. I realize this is quite an undertaking for my first time (as well as my gf), especially considering I'll be coming from Vermont, but you're right. I feel like between these boards and my friends stories I should be somewhat prepared. I'm ready for the shock though! ;D
Bonnaroo has arguably the biggest "mainstream" EDM act in the U.S. that is actively touring. There are bands that would be bigger "gets" in terms of EDM, but none of them are touring and aren't realistic (Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Massive Attack). Even if those bands were bigger "gets," they might not sell more tickets - the average 24 year old music fan in the U.S. is more likely to be a fan of Skrillex's brostep stylings than with anyone above (save maybe for Daft Punk, and I feel like they've drifted into that weird Flaming Lips territory where tons of people know them/want to see them live less because of the music and more because of the live theatrics).
EDM is ultra popular right now, but those EDM festivals sell out fast because they cater to a specific audience. It'd be like if some jam fest headlined by SCI sold out quick, or some hip-hop fest headlined by Wu-Tang sold out quick - it's more a reflection of the genre than it is anything else, and I agree with Flanzo that it's more about "big" names than adding an artist from a specific genre.
While this may be true, you can't ignore the fact that since 07 the Lips have played about 4 million festivals to Daft's zero. At least makes it worth putting up with.

A ton of fun. I only knew a handful of Big Boi's solo tracks pretty well and a good amount of Outkast and I had an absolute blast. I'm hoping Ludacris gets his late night spot this year.
i seem to remember last year there was still VIP tickets available til way after GA was sold out. is that usually the case?
Last year was one of the first years I remember that happening. I may be wrong on this but I feel like VIP "sells-out" right before they mass mail the tickets out, and GA being available till a few days before.
I'm starting to wonder IF it sells out. To alot of us on here, this lineup is the best Roo has offered out of the last 3 years. However, the more people I talk to in the "general population" they either are very "meh" about the lineup or have little to no desire to go this year.
If it does sell out though, I'm gonna place my bet on May 17th.

Same thing with me. Most people I know IRL are less than enthusiastic about it, and are leaning more towards Hangout for some reason.

If this really is the general consensus on the lineup, that is great news to me. less crowds FTW. However I think it still sells out before June. All 3 headliners have a HUGE fan base, and the undercard is pretty solid.
I understand the arguments against a sellout, but we can't deny the power of the Radioface. They make people bonkers. Throw in some Phish in a tour leg that isn't getting any other southern love and there is definitely sellout potential.
I love Hangout, and will go because its an hour from my doorstep, but if it was a decision between traveling several hours for Roo's lineup this year or several hours for Hangout's lineup this year, Roo is the obvious choice. Which is why I'm traveling several hours to Roo this year.

I do feel this is lackluster, but I will be there all the same. 09 hell even 10 was better to me.
I am one of those said people regarding Radioface I'm gonna lose my sh*t when they perform. Hands down one of my favorite bands of all time. I'm sad that they run Cincy and Cleveland on 6/5 and 6/6. I'll be on my way to Cincy on Tuesday but won't get there til right before or while the show is going on, then I'll be in Rooville on Wednesday night.
On topic though, you are correct. Phish draws a huge fanbase that meshes very well with Bonnaroo. However Radiohead fans will have and had plenty of shows to see in the US this Spring. Can't say I see too many people buying a ticket JUST for Radiohead or RHCP. RHCP is a big draw, no denying that, but they are also doing a HUGE tour this Spring and Summer too. My point, the headliners aren't exclusive, at all.
Then people I think see the undercard and are underwhelmed by it. Not this guy, but in general other than Beach Boys, Bon Iver, Avetts, Skrillex, Foster the People, Ludacris, and possibly Ben Folds Five there isn't a whole lotta mass appeal.
This is the exact opposite for me. The ONLY act I could truly care less about is Mac Miller. Everything else I at least have partial to complete interest in seeing after listening to the few artists I didn't know before the lineup release.
