I'm starting to wonder IF it sells out. To alot of us on here, this lineup is the best Roo has offered out of the last 3 years. However, the more people I talk to in the "general population" they either are very "meh" about the lineup or have little to no desire to go this year.
If it does sell out though, I'm gonna place my bet on May 17th.
I do feel this is lackluster, but I will be there all the same. 09 hell even 10 was better to me.

Everyone is going to have different oppinons about any line up. As Juggs has mention this board represents a very small portion of the Bonnaroo crowd, so while many here love this line up does or does not mean it has appeal to the mass.

Good point about radiohead. If I were a general public, I would say $60 to see them in my backyard or over $300++ to travel to Tennessee to see them. Same goes for a lot of others on the line up. They're all pretty much playing here before bonnaroo.
How is that hard to believe? I do not enjoy the same bands as you do. Well most of the same bands anyone likes on this board. Majority of people I talk to inlcuding a few people who have been to every Roo, are not excited about this lineup. We will all go anyways because I do not really go for the music. I go for the full experience.

Just wondering, is it the mostly the headliners or the undercard that they are dissatisfied with?
Another unnecessarily long thought out post but here i go:
I think nicthedic is a good representation of the main audience of bonnaroo these days. (Not at all meant as an insult or slight)
he says 2010 was better than 2012. the main active members of inforoo would disagree really quickly, but to the main general audience of bonnaroo, is that really surprising?
I think Dave Matthews, Jay Z, Kings of Leon, and Deadmau5 pulls in a lot more of the mainstream music loving crowd than Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, and Skrillex.
My wake up call was the greyhound to bonnaroo last year, I asked to see someone's schedule since I hadn't seen it yet. And most people that I talked to either had their first year in 2010 or were going for the first time in 2011. Everyone was talking about Deadmau5 was the best show in 2010, and how everyone was super stoked for Bassnectar and Girl Talk. The sizes of those crowds speak for themselves.
Outside of inforoo, most people just aren't psyched up for the EDM this year. Nicthedic says apart from Major Lazer and MiMosa, everything else is meh, which is pretty much what all of my festival going friends IRL are saying as well. No Pretty Lights, no deadmau5, no Bassnectar, no Girl Talk.
A large amount of electronic enthusiasts on inforoo may disregard those artists mentioned above as "cheesy" and "lame", but the large majority of festival goers in general look to those as their late night ragers, which is a VERY BIG reason why people choose Bonnaroo over other big festivals. The latenights.
And as for Radiohead. Sorry to say as much as I love the band, the only people that love Radiohead are, as with any band, fans of Radiohead. I could name several instances when discussing music with my fellow thru-hikers, or my friends from college who just flat out don't like Radiohead. They think they're music is boring, they don't get it, and (as mentioned by someone on inforoo) they don't understand what Thom is saying. Yes there are TONS of radiohead fans so who cares about the haters, but as mentioned above, lots of those people will already have had the chance to see them on tour or at the twice sold out Coachella weekends. So yeah Radiohead wouldn't play out as a major deciding factor for a lot of people.
I also think this year will still sell out just because festivals have become very trendy amongst young people. I'd say not as quickly as last year though. I could be wrong.

Good post. Completely spot on in my opinion. Like it or not, EDM is what sells to the younger casuals. As usual, I will continue to find myself in the minority, which is fine I guess. Like you said, a divide will continue to exist between people who are there because they are music nerds and people who are there mostly for their "late night ragers" as you put it. I really don't have a problem with that segment of the audience as long as they are nice and treat others well.
Just wondering, is it the mostly the headliners or the undercard that they are dissatisfied with?
A little bit of both. Most don't really care to see Radiohead. They like Radiohead but don't want them to be a headliner again. Pretty much a full disdain for Beach Boys. Other than that the headliners slot is just really weak. Yes the EDM is weak this year to most. And the massive amout of indie makes most of them want to puke. All that said they like the undercard more than the headliners. I'm not the biggest fan of jam bands, they are. And prefer WSP over Phish, which I think is retarded.

I agree with most of what you said. I am older than most on here and also have a different taste. I love jam bands and also prefer WSP over Phish, I've seen both. I think Phish has been overhyped. But after Phish there is ALO, Umphreys and I don't know who this year. I expect the boards after Roo to have lots of comments on how bad the Beach Boys were. Radiohead just don't do it for me, but I will check them out and give it a chance. The RHCP I think will be good, looking forward to the energy. We will see.

I was thinking about what was being discussed here about the relative popularity of artists on the line-up, so I consulted the official website where you can create your own line-up. You can hover over each artist and see how many people have added them to their personal line-up. Is it a definitive numbers? Hells no, but it's something. Anyway, here is the number of people (out of 12,957) that have added the artist plus the percentage of that number versus the total. I did every artist through FlyLo and added the last 3 due to people recently bringing up the EDM this year.
Radiohead 10595 81.7% RHCP 10102 78.0% Phish 5933 45.8% Beach Boys 7088 54.7% Bon Iver 8037 62.0% Avett Brothers 6385 49.3% The Shins 7600 58.7% Foster The People 7981 61.6% Skrillex 6419 49.5% Aziz Ansari 4889 37.7% Dispatch 4159 32.1% Feist 5381 41.5% The Roots 7018 54.2% Alice Cooper 3462 26.7% Black Star 3133 24.2% The Word 2218 17.1% Ludacris 5878 45.4% Ben Folds Five 6166 47.6% Flogging Molly 4639 35.8% Major Lazer 3054 23.6% Flying Lotus 2584 20.0% SBTRKT 2294 17.7% Big Gigantic 2354 18.2% Mimosa 1538 11.9%
In my opinion, the fest will not sell-out this year. Radiohead have quite a few US dates this spring/summer and no matter what the fanboys say The King of Limbs was a commercial dissapointment and killed the momentum they had from In Rainbows.
The Beach Boys target audience will see them on their own headlining tour, RHCp are doing a MASSIVE arena tour, multiple nights in some markets. Phish is Phish. Beyond that, I don't see anything that makes people drop everything and choose to goto Roo.
Coachella has ATDI/Refused/Noel Gallagher/Jeff Mangum and a whole boat load of impressive acts...Lolla looks like it's going to book Beyonce/Beck/Metallica/Sonic Youth/Janes Addiction/The Killers which completely trumps our headliners.
I'm still going to Bonnaroo because of the atmosphere, but just imagine how fast this fest would sell out if they had the Coachella lineup at Bonnaroo.
Black Star 3133 24.2% The Word 2218 17.1% SBTRKT 2294 17.7%
I don't know that I want to go to a festival where 49.5 percent of the crowd wants to see Skrillex, and only 24 percent want to see Black Star. Hell, I don't know if I want to live in a world where those are the circumstances.
Were you expecting Black Star, the Word, and SBTRKT to have huge numbers? Be happy they won't be crowded, they're not huge acts, have multiple hits, or platinum records.
I feel like this point was made above, but I think that the tickets have a good chance of selling out despite the fact that the lineup has less mass appeal than it has in years past simply because Bonnaroo has a lot of notoriety and interest in festivals seems to have gone up recently. I feel like the fact that it's big and the proximity factor could win a lot of people over. I'm really hoping it doesn't sell out though. I feel like the crowds for sets were a lot worse than they have been in years past.

I got a time machine and an abortion pill Juggs lets go back and make this right!
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman

I'm surprised it isn't a bigger divide than that. That Skrillex percentage probably isn't even that accurate overall. Most of his audience probably isn't on Bonnaroo.com making lists. I'm expecting him to have a bigger crowd than both The Roots and The Shins, both of which he is ranked behind currently.

I'm surprised nobody has looked at the Phish number vs. Skrillex. I figured NoD would have jumped on that like a tiger on an antelope with a torn hamstring.
I'm surprised nobody has looked at the Phish number vs. Skrillex. I figured NoD would have jumped on that like a tiger on an antelope with a torn hamstring.
Side note: Do antelopes have hamstrings?
I noticed those numbers, and my response is: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."
First off, this is my first post on the site, "long time reader, first time poster"I've been Creepin'... This site is great and I definitely feel like it's been extremely helpful for a first time 'roo participant such as myself.
As far as the lineup goes, it seems to me like it has a pretty solid mix and will appeal to a wide spectrum of music lovers. I mean, yeah you have your headlining acts that are sure to draw some hardcore festival lovers (Phish, Radiohead). I'm going with two of my best friends and one is a HUGE Phish fan and the other a HUGE Radiohead fan. I'm personally a RHCP fan and it's all good because we each are going to get to see one of our favorite bands even though we have very different musical tastes. I feel like this will be a pretty recurrent theme in camps across Bonnaroo this year.
the fact that they decided to bring in acts such as ludacris and Mac Miller tell me that there will absolutely be some younger fans causing mayhem and that's fine with me. Personally I'm looking forward to these acts because it'll be sets where Wookies will (hopefully) be somewhat absent and these acts throw down some great partying jams- and who doesn't want to have a little bit of that?
Skrillex, Mimosa, Big Gigantic, are all great EDM acts and will certainly provide me with enough glowstick and strobe light action for one weekend. Sure I'd love to see Pretty Lights return (the videos on youtube from last year looked amazing, and I'm extremely jealous for those of you who got to witness that) but by all means, the artists already confirmed are legit.
So yeah I've started to ramble here, but like I said, there's really acts for any kind of music lover this year and like someone had mentioned, festivals are extremely trendy right now. I fully admit i'm hoping on this bandwagon and seeing where it'll take me! My guess is it will sell out, just go on twitter if you have it and search #bonnaroo... A TON of people are posting about it daily already so the interest is clearly there.
I've barley just touched upon the lineup here... really just talked about the mainstream stuff but I hope everyone gets what i'm talking about. Personally Childish Gambino, Dispatch, Skrillex, RHCP, and Black Star are my top acts... Just thought i'd let you know...
Also, I fully admit to being a 'roo noob so this may be complete BS but thanks for listening anyways!
Didn't we already decide last year that hippies don't know how to use computers and the numbers are therefore skewed.
this. I honestly noticed that making a list this year looks cool, but can be a pain in the arse on the site. But the undercard is way better then people give it credit for, is kind of relevant to the indie and EDM scene the past year or two; but I admit I wasn't digging the line-up at first either.
edit: Thank the lord The Roots are higher the Skrittles, there is hope.

ehh I feel the #'s for Phish are pretty accurate. Phish has dates in MA on the 7th and 8th, and then NJ 5 days after roo. I don't think many phans that are going on tour are gonna shell out $300+ to catch the last day of a festival
