Mayo... Have been thinking of you for two weeks, every day.
"It gets EVERYWHERE!" and how true this is! Completely glitter bombed our house.
My niece made her first tu' the other night and not only is she a natural, she is now an addict. Good thing since I hope to get some Tu's done after Wannee to help out Ms. Mayo again.
Last year we joked about the groom tu... finally did it with a bride tu. Not for any reason, just wanted 'tu'. The tux tu has long tails in the back as well. (I did a horrible job with the pictures - these all look better IRL. Need to get a dress form instead of using the cat perch. )
For the new peeps, Quacker and I had a few bevies then did a Mayo approved 'how to make a tu' video last year. Will go find that as well. It was amazing to be stopped out of the blue on the farm by a young lady who thanked me for the video and her first tu.
This is one of two going into a Wannee giftbag. Calling this one 'Me Tarzan'. "You Jane' will be the second one.
Thank you Mayo for getting me hooked and now I 'tu' can pass along the addiction.
The Bride and Groom tus are superb! I was definitely hoping to make a pair of those too for someone someday! Im pretty stoked about naming the Tus too. Me,Tarzan, You,Jane is hiLARRRRRious!
Glad to see everyone is getting fired up about tutus this year! Im hoping to get back on the tu train after some Coach and SOSMP orders are done this week. I MISS making Tus!

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
fawnmart, your passion for the tus is showing! And your skill level is exponentially higher now with all your experience under your belt!
And those wedding tus- are you sure they are for no reason, or will they be making a trip with you this year?
Actually... the wedding Tu's are on their way to the lovely Ms. Mayo. My thoughts are that she could put her editorial touches/trimming etc on them, then maybe just maybe find a home for them via her Etsy shop. Mayo has done SO SO SO So much for us all with the tu's directly and through her teaching. It's a small gesture of thanks. <3
Still hoping for the oct trip bonz.. Its still a def. possibility. We bought rings. : )
Glad you like the names Mayo. Find the end product for me is better if i put the tu together then wait for it to tell me its name. Once the name comes along, that says how to embellish it. Weird but it works.
Love seeing what you are doing with the musical inspiration. (I still really suck at gluing to the tull without making a mess, and i am no stranger to a glue gun. WTF!) Keep enlarging all your pics best i can to see how they look so perfect! : )
Someone on the Wannee FB thread turned me on to BB crafts online. 5.99 for 100 yd spools, price goes down if you buy more. Think it starts at 19 spools or more. Took $200 from a work bonus that i get (yay) and got 3000 yds of flat tulle spools and 20 yds of the zebra and leopard on bolts. Their shiny/sparkly is more expensive/lower quantity pretty much like all the other stores. All in all seems pretty good so far. colors are great. Lots to choose from. Have run into cuts in the spool and one had a little under a yd of damage. But overall a great price for quantity of non glitter bomb tulle.
Lost my mind choo choo there and rambled. Picked up an idea from another place and time and made a tulle cutter last week. How i Love these spools that ya'll have been working with!! What a HUGE difference it makes. Back in a few and will edit with pics.
Spool holder (coupe of pieces of 2 X 2), piece of left over PVC, piece of self healing mat to cut on, and a one yard board marked with inches. Cutting is done in minutes now. yay!
We were inspired by this thread and bought supplies this past weekend. My daughter has already finished hers. It is pretty fluffy right now, but I think she did a good job:
Still working on mine, thinking I might go with a Zebra pattern/colors to match a top and hat I already bought.

Everyone has their own Rootu style Mine tend to be super poofy, but I like it like that! Some people like it long and ethereal, while others like them trimmed like a proper ballerina... Whatever works for you!
I know that I have better pictures of the Tu, but I am being lazy and looking through pictures that I already uploaded to photobucket. This is my tu at Brunch last year (and me staring lovingly at itrainmonkeys).

Awwww fawnmart! I will be delighted to collaborate on the wedding tus!!! I truly am amazed by you and don's generosity ALL THE TIME
Also, your tulle cutter is fantastic! Superior work! I considered having my dad cut out thin wood forms for my panda hoods etc, so i'd have templates that last forever. I really really need a jigsaw.
For those of you who do not have the tulle spool and woodworking skillz of Fawn, you can also do the following - 1: Decide on how long you want your strips of tulle to be. 2: cut out a 6" wide piece of cardboard, and make it HALF as long as you want your strips to be. For example, if you want 24" strips, make the cardboard 12" long. Use an old shoebox, or an old ikea box for the spare cardboard. 3: put your tulle spool in a shoebox. 4: pin the edge of the tulle to the top of the carboard. 5: start "rolling" the cardboard, essentially transferring the tulle from the spool to the cardboard. Meanwhile, the tulle spool in the shoebox doesnt go anywhere (like rolling under your couch, or being accosted by your cat) and if it's glitter bomb tulle, a lot of the glitter gets trapped in the shoebox. 6: once the tulle is all OFF the spool, and now rolled ON your cardboard, just make ONE cut along the edge of the cardboard where you pinned the start of the tulle. 7: BOOM. All strips cut

got home tonight and there was a package waiting for me... my awesome rootu from mayonaise! it is amazing and I love it!!! can't wait to wear it at roo!
Super excited to see everyone rocking their tu's on Friday morning. I loathed the one I made last year. Too heavy and super hot. I gave it to ODB after Brunch.
If I was making one for this year it would be a punky black one for Billy Idol. It would have rabbits. I think I will just stick to bunny ears FTW. Love me some super cute buns.
My tu is under construction for now, had to take it in and think I'm going to add some flowers or something. I just finished making a FANTASTIC crayola inspired Rootu for tealeyedangel, and I will try to get pics up later!

I watched Kerri do this at Wannee... DOH!! Way easier!!
I'm still such a newbie at it, but I use both. I think I prefer the nylon the best. Nylon is softer, easier to work with. Polyester is stiffer, which makes it more poofy. I kind of like the mix of using the two.

I was unaware of the difference until I started looking. When buying jewelry supplies, I now check out the tulle. I still have yet to decide on a color scheme.

Okay ladies, I'm usually a wrist tu gal and not a full rootu gal but I think since I want a costume for Rocky Horror this might be the way to go. Design ideas, thoughts, all appreciated! I do not have the craft gift of some of you but I'm not tooooo awful.
I honestly don't know Rocky Horror that well, but I'd choose a few colors inspired by a character. Looking through images, I would probably end up with a black tu with some red and white/silver flair. From there, you can follow the guidance of this thread!
But speaking of rootu, I can't decide on my color scheme either. I really just want mine from last year, but I also want make a new one. Maybe I should follow suit and find inspiration from something...

Two things, Hobby Lobby still has 50% off tulle. Second I'm actually going to go in there and make a rootu. Mine will probably be on the long side. Question, I want it longer but also want it to have some lift. Should I vary the lengths of the strips? Mix materials?

Will defer to the experts. That said, I went longer with my first one last year, and dear god it added about a 100 lbs to the pictures. At wannee I defered to the experts, made a much shorter fluffy tu' and it only added 30 lbs to my hips. Just saying... Rock a short Tu Katbur. Have learned from these beautiful ladies that its all in the attitude.

I've been making Tus with 3' long strips. Accidentally made one last week that was only 2', & I really like it! So I'm really not much help, but you will look AWESOME in a RooTu katbur2. I promise. Know why? Because you will look like all of us.
As for Rocky Horror, I would go either red & black, or black & white maid inspired. Good luck!!!

My friend Sherry bought a ton of elastic and tulle to make another tutu and I bought some cool metallic tulle to add to the ones kindly made for me by Fawn and Steph. Well now we have a friend who is bringing his wife and a friend (all first timers), so I sent them a pic of my tutus and asked if they wanted one.... They both want one, so Sherry and I are paying it forward to newbies and making them some tutus I have no idea how they will turn out, but we are gong to try very hard!!
Okay ladies, one last question (I think) starting the waistband with elastic, how do you measure? I mean do you stretch it out and then measure or keep it as is?
