My top 10 sets: (all of which broke the 5 boner barrier of set ranking badassery or whatever)
(1) The Budos Band - This band fucking rules...everyone fucking blew it and watched Lotus instead of them despite me telling them to split the gotdamn sets
(2) Kung Fu - I was front and center for this thursday...I am now in love with this band. Their music is very Zappaesque
(3) Charles Bradley - All of the Pandas and I were on the rail and got hugged by Charles afterwards. I was the last to get hugged in our group and my boner accidentally bumped Charles Bradley's boner....a bolt of lightning flew up and pierced the sky.
(4) Lettuce - Their saturday set...I was completely wasted at this point, but this set ruled. I am sad that I couldn't stay sunday to see them again.
(5) Dr. Klaw - This shit raged hard...their cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground was insane. Khris Royal and the Dap Kings sat in for like the last 20-30 minutes of set.
(6) Moon Taxi - Thursday set...first time seeing them. wow. way better live than their recordings. They also covered nin's closer and I think that got everyone there hard.
(7) Umphrey's McGee - Saturday set...their covers for this set was what really made it fun. In the Flesh > Another Brick in the Wall > Ace of Spades > Don't Stop 'till You Get Enough. However the encore after the two sets that they did friday night gave me the biggest boner...Hot For Teacher.
(8) Break Science - All the pandas went back to camp towards the end of Dumpstajam except for Abra and we made it here just before that set was finished and the capacity was reached for the music hall. We danced our asses off.
(9) Catfish Alliance - This shit was hilarious. The campground stage was literally less than a minute walk from my camp so I could hear it fine from my hammock set up between two trees near the lake. The singer/rapper for the band is referred to as the Sexual Manatee...big fat duder that performs with his shirt off. The highlight was the mashups that they did. One had the Sexual Manatee rapping "So What Cha Want" while the band was playing "Layla" and something else that I can't recall, but the chick that was guest singing was saying "Manatee, you've got me on my knees. " etc
(10) March Forth Marching Band - 15 piece band that also had several people dancing...including three (2 males and 1 female) on stilts. The two guys on stilts were lifting up the lady on stilts and flipping her around all over the place. Interesting set.
Echo what Longinus/Boner Creek said. I didn't get there until Friday night so I missed some of the sets.
I've seen Umphrey's before on more than one occasion but this weekend they totally blew it out of the water. Simply amazing shows.
I also got into the Charles Bradley group panda hug and it was boner worthy.
I was introduced to New Master Sounds...if you haven't heard them check them out. the music is major boner worthy and they're all effing adorable (add 3 more boners).
Kudos to Scrog for setting up the most amazing camp setup imaginable and for saving us space. Also kudos to Sarah for setting up the trade blanket (which provided some weekend highlights)
I got to hang out with several of you that I had not met in the past and made lots of other new friends. The place is gorgeous and has a wonderful vibe. I'm already making preliminary plans for Wanee.

Amazing festival. Amazing venue. Amazing people.
I can't believe it took me this long to go to a fest at Spirit of the Suwanee.
Best vibe of any festival. Our camp was so great. Thanks to everyone who made this weekend so special: zen, abra, sfa, scrog, sugarhigh, longinus, scofie, mojo... all the rest of the awesome people I met this weekend.
The music all weekend was SUPERB. Lotus was a solid 7 boner set.
I laughed so hard I cried several times. Pandamonium was in full effect.

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Scrog & Sugarhigh for setting up the shortcut camp and the "Swirl". That was very therapeutic for me and I will always remember it.

Bear Creek was amazing! The area is beautiful with hanging moss, trees, and beautiful lake. I was surprised that even on Sunday, when we left, how clean the place was. You can see that the patrons of the fest care a lot about keeping the area up. I met so many amazing people, inforooers I hadn't met before, random pandas, and every person there was so kind and generous.
Scrog's camp was fun, beautiful, and meaningful. I loved the swirl and the burning of it on Saturday night. It was special to see so much appreciation for all Scrog and his crew did. During one of the sets, I even heard a girl telling her friends about the camp, talking about how people had written troubles on cards and how much it touched her.
The music was amazing and this isn't music I'm usually into much.
Lotus was my favorite. So much dancing, the lights were great, and I loved the music. They put on a wonderful live show.
Umphrey's McGee is a must see live band for me now. It was super cool to be watching them and all the guy voices singing Ace of Spades in the crowd.
Charles Bradley- This man is full of all that is good and it comes out in his music. I missed his Roo set, aside from 10 minutes, this time I saw it all and got a hug. Amazing.
Lettuce- Everyone said to make sure and see this set. Excellent advice!
Break Science- So much fun, my body is still sore from dancing. I had so much fun! The line seemed long but it went by pretty quickly.
New Master Sounds- Great music and not bad to look at either
This is such a unique festival, place, and group of people. I want to go back asap! Thanks Sarah for making this possible for me. Scrog for saving the spot and building a beautiful and touching place. Sugar, thanks for being such a great hostess! Zen and Sfa for the laughs and hugs. Mojo for all the lights. Longius for being my late night party buddy. It was awesome meeting postjack and all the rare posters/lurkers. Mayo thanks for the hoods, pandas are multiplying!
ALSO, HUGE thanks to Dave. He manned the homestead, encouraged me to go, and has taken care of me all day while getting over this Bear Creek funk. <3 I Love you so much!
I forgot to mention thanks to Sugar for the wonderful s'mores...to Scrog again for the "swirl"...indeed, the whole camp was a thing of beauty. Thanks to Longinus for being awesome and for my purple feather boa that I will treasure forever (mustn't let my cat discover it!). Thanks to Sarah for being sweet and amazing and helping me get there. Thanks to SFA for being an amazing travel partner. Thanks to Abra for being awesome and helping this klutz learn to hoop. I have SO MUCH to be grateful for. This fest provided such a wonderful healing vibe. The lights playing off the Spanish Moss were visual poetry.
I came back with a cold...not the full fledged Bonnaflu, but have been incredibly lazy all day nonetheless, sipping echinacea tea and vitamin C.

This was my second Bear Creek, third trip to Spirit of Suwanee music park, and every time its fantastic. Already looking forward to the lineup drop for next year.
One thing I love about Bear Creek is the family of bands that will inevitably be there every year: Lettuce, Soulive, New Mastersounds, Zach Deputy, etc. They love Bear Creek, know what its all about, and are always thrilled to be there. Its such a unique vibe, since genre wise its all about the funk and various offshoots of said funk, whether that be more in an electronic variety, or hip hop variety, or NOLA R&B or R&B/soul variety, its all rooted in funk.
The crowd is great, it reminds of how all music festivals in the US used to be 10 years ago, lots of down to earth crunchy folks with good attitudes that are happy to be there. No BS, no posturing, minimal drama. Its super easy to walk between stages, but at the same time there is no sound bleed, every stage sounds great. Easy to split sets because you don't lose a bunch of time walking between stages.
Of course it was awesome meeting all the kind inforoo'ers during New Mastersounds, I'm glad all y'all had a great time, and hope you continue to come back. If you weren't familiar with NOLA R&B before, I hope you dug it and will continue to support the fantastic musicians that create it. I know Bear Creek is 7 hours from New Orleans, and I know not everyone there is a NOLA artist, but to me Bear Creek is like that tweener fest between Jazzfests, where I can get my NOLA fest fix. Also great meeting Scrog and seeing the soon to be world famous Camp Shortcut, which was awesome.
Umphreys further converted me to their unique brand of improvisational prog rock. I first saw Umphreys a long time ago, maybe 2003? They opened for moe at the Orpheum in New Orleans, and they blew my little mind. Fast forward to 2009 when I finally saw them again at Wanee, then the 2010 show at the Tabernacle, which was when they finally hooked me, and convinced me that their catalog, though intimidating in its complexity, was worth my time to get into. In terms of live improvisational music, Phish will always have my heart, but Umphreys is number two. Their set on Saturday was my favorite show of the weekend.
Second favorite was Soulive on Saturday. I don't know, I just had a moment during that set, the wholeness of the weekend came together and I was touched.
Other highlights were New Mastersounds, with sit-ins from Ivan Neville and of course the embodiment of all things good and holy in music, George Porter, Jr. Zach Deputy's afternoon set had a killer vibe, complete with some dude proposing to his girl on stage. Awwwww! Zoogma, whose sound gets more mature and defined everytime I see them, crushed their set, closing it out with a strangely stirring rendition of the Ghostbusters theme. Crowd was one big boner.
And need I forget Charles Bradley, and the amazing Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, wow!
Bear Creek is a beautiful thing, but its a sad thing too, since it officially marks the end of my long festival season. But I'm going to enjoy every moment of quiet I have now, because before I know Jazzfest gunna be here, and I hope to see some of you kids on the fairgrounds gettin' down to some funky new orleans sound!

I missed Soulive and Digital Tape Machine because a bunch of pandas abducted me and took me to their camp. That homemade muscadine wine that SFA shared got me right for Lettuce though nicely.
Caddyshaq warned me about catching wookflu at Bear Creek, but I think getting sick after at Voodoo saturday night and dosing on airborne formula hard everyday since then might have been what saved me from getting sick again. I think I was the only person in my camp that didn't catch it. Wearing thermals, wool socks, and a thick hoodie thursday and friday night probably helped.
Zen, a friend at my camp found the yellow boa and when I got home and took it out of my suitcase...my male cat, Longinus, flipped his shiz, grabbed it, and started jumping up in the air with it. We played for like 10 minutes with it and only like 4 feathers came off of it. I hid it from him though so I wouldn't come home to feathers everywhere.
I plan on being at Bear Creek every year from now on because I love the funk and this fest definitely had the greatest crowd of any fest that I have ever been to. Hopefully next year I will have more time to be better prepared (unless Fun Fun Fun Fest lures me in again).

What an amazing experience! Thank you all for the kind words. There have been some awesome Short-Cut Camps, but this one was the most special. The Cosmic Swirl and the burning of, was very moving for me. I hope it helped some.
As for the music, UM put on an amazing set X3, that light show is NUTS! Their covers give me a Boner. What short part of PGroove I saw I enjoyed. M4 was amazing! I love their sound! Their energy! Their costumes! This show, is a must see, ;D which is why I am suggesting them to be at Bonnaroo in 2013. "Hey, SP/ACE you need to get M4!" If you get a chance, check out, March Fourth Marching Band. It was nice to meet Honeywine at SC camp and Pablo before Charles Bradley. Along with meeting Sid, all of these guys are are very cool and I can not wait to see them again in June, on the Farm. Charles Bradley, what can I say about this man. He loves you and it shows in his performance. This was the best CB show I had seen to date and this is before I got to meet CB. And then, he signed our Panda Hats. I can not say enough about that experience!

The CS was our temple, our sanctuary. If you had some bad mojo, or a "monkey on your back' or just wanted to send someone, that was not with us, a message, this was the place to do it. On Saturday, we wrapped these walls up, with these messages, and placed them on the fire to burn. In turn, releasing that energy and allowing that message, to go where it needed to go, into this vast universe we all call home. Good Wanee friends, Liz and Nicole laid the lateral ground work of yarn in the CS. Others added more yarn to the structure.

Short-Cut Camp is a lot of work. I take a lot of pride in my Camp and what we put out. I run a 'No Trace Left Behind' camp, that means when I leave, I hand out bags and we all walk over the camp picking up any trash. Including cig butts! I return my camping area to its natural state. ;D
SOSMP is a very magical place to me. Sorry Roo, but Bear Creek is my favorite fest. It is cold at night, which means campfires. The Oak trees and Spanish moss. The Suwannee river! This is my home and I am happy so many new people got to experience that this year.
Now, time to get ready for Wanee and we are going with an Alice's Adventures in Wonderland theme. ;D
Edit: In my review, I forgot to mention Beebs and her Money Makers. You all should check them out as well, they are a local Florida band, and they are funky as hell and can rhyme and flow like water.

When Abra got back, she went on about your camp for a long time, Scrog. You really blew her away. She told me she saw more than one person crying when you burnt the CS on Saturday. It's great to start seeing some pictures of what she was talking about.
I can't believe this week is already over! All the people who camped with us made this Bear Creek and unforgettable experience! Thank you Abra, Popsicle, Zen & SFA for late-night dancing and camaraderie, Mojo for wearing a kitty cat hat and making me laugh, Kerri (although I don't think she's on here) for being my constant festival companion, and all around awesome chick, taking me biking and making sure I didn't get lost, and Scrog for orchestrating this ENTIRE experience and letting me be a part of it. I know how much work you put into it before, during, and after the fest!
Sure, these "festivals" are a great place to catch good music and get your party on, but mostly, it's so I can reconnect with my friends, and reground myself to what's really important. These festivals mean more to me than you could realize.
I miss my pandas!
Edit: I really can't emphasize enough about how big an impact "Short-Cut Camp" and the "Cosmic Swirl" made on me and anyone who passed through. Thanks for everyone who participated, even a little!

I met a little 9 year old girl while waiting in the bathroom line. She went on and on about Beebs. She said she got to be on stage and wear a costume and stressed, "You have got to check them out next time!". Noted.
