Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Of course inforoo has the scoop on M83. I was pretty pissed when Theophilus took the stage with no explanation.
All said and done though, great first year fest. A couple rookie mistakes like not having an app or even pamphlets with schedules on them...the only thing we had was the big display in the main venue. To make it worse, there weren't even signs on the stages for who was playing. That's really my only big gripe...they seemed pretty polished otherwise.
I'm getting too old for these EDM fests though. I can't put my finger on it, but they bother me a bit and I can't pinpoint exactly why which is frustrating. I'm all about party favors but the kids at these things make me just shake my head. For every responsible user there are at least 5 irresponsible and annoying users...at least in my probably flawed assumption. I felt the same way, actually even more so, at Ultra.

I would call this fest a success overall, no doubt. For a first year fest, it ran pretty smoothly. Almost all of the sets I saw were very high-energy and fun. There were always people dancing, which is definitely a good thing. They also put the volunteer camping right by the main festival area entrance, which was great.
As far as negative aspects go, the rain Friday was pretty bad. I was lucky enough to be back at my tent once it started lightly raining, as I was able to move most of my stuff to my car. Once the rain hit though, it hit HARD! My friend and I were moving as quick as we could to get every last thing from there, and afterwards our tent flew into someone else's! It all turned out fine in the end though. Well, at least until I found out M83 had to cancel. :\ Huge bummer, especially since he just played Florida, so even if he reschedules, it would be another expensive drive if I had wanted to go. Also, a a tollbooth worker, they DID have pamphlets to give out, just very few. They did need signs showing who was playing though.
Also, to anybody else who went, was it just me, or were some of the stage productions scaled down some? Avicii did not have his regular white head, and I'm pretty sure Big G's was also dumbed down a bit. Pretty Lights seemed to have all of his stuff though. I worked Saturday night and missed Skrillex (along with Angello and half of PL) so I don't so I don't know if he had the spaceship.
I did really enjoy myself though, and would almost definitely come back if the lineup was as good as this year's. My highlights were Bassnectar, Big G, Pretty Lights, Alesso, Zedd, and I was really surprised by Zoogma. With every festival I go to, there always seems to be one band I was mostly unfamiliar with beforehand that turned me into a big fan afterwards (Big G was that band for me at Roo this summer actually), and Zoogma was totally it this year. They killed it hard, especially for a daytime set, and I was thrilled to see people handing out their demos to everyone.
Festival was absolutely gorgeous. Beyond belief. The giant hill, the standing pond, the art, all of it was amazing.
That being said, it being a first year festival, there were TONS of logistical clusterfucks its not even funny. A lot of which were behind the scenes and most people didnt see. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.
But surprisingly the people there were very chill, relaxed, and polite, even if there were tons of college kids.
Was also amazing to hang with Mayo and Abra during the fest!
My Top 5 from the weekend:
1. Skrillex
An amazing set, better than Bonnaroo even if he didnt have his spaceship production. His mixing skills really are so much improved. And he probably only played dubstep for 30% of his set. He covered it all, dubstep, reggae, drum 'n bass, house, electro, trap.
2. Steve Angello
Honestly, seeing any one member of Swedish House Mafia is just like seeing them all together. They're gonna play the exact same songs. And Steve's my favorite out of the 3 and it was my first time seeing any part of SHM. Definitely the best house all weekend. It was almost like most of the kids at the fest didnt realize who he was. When he came on stage the crowd was VERY thin, but as soon as he picked up the mic and said "I'm Steve Angello from The Swedish House Mafia" the entire hill of people sitting came running down the hill into the pit.
3. Polica
Big fan of their album and her voice was absolutely haunting live. Definitely the best "band" performance I saw all weekend.

What were some of the logistical issues, just out of curiosity? It's interesting that you give Skrillex the nod over Nectar, Avicii, and Pretty Lights. Not that Skrillex was horrible...I was right up front for his set and he definitely knows how to get a crowd to party, but I just think his music is repetitive and mediocre compared to most other big DJ's.
I've seen Bassnectar many times, and that performance by far was the best i've ever seen of him. Best electronic set i've ever seen period, actually.
I didnt get to see much of Bassnectar since I was working security for the ADA pit, protecting them from kids trampling them. (one of the logistical fuckups).
hahaha yes. i wouldnt go anywhere near it. no telling how many kids puked in that. some of the guys camped next to it said they rode it and everyone in it turned upside down. vommmmmmmm.

I had SO much fun at Counterpoint. I thought that it being an EDM fest that there would be a lot of annoying, immature, rude people there but that wasn't the case at all. I didn't seen one instance of people being donkeys the entire weekend. We had great neighbors on all sides, a couple people from Knoxville on one and a couple young kids from Florida on the other. The music sounded great at all the stages and not much sound bleed either. Plenty of room to dance and the lines getting into and out of Centerpoint (not sure what it's really called) were fast, security was laid back. I didn't see anyone getting totally smashed like I do at Roo. A couple of people were in distress over the weekend and the EMTs were right there. There were access roads between every two rows of campsites which made it easy to find your campsite and also to leave early if you needed to. The weather was great other than the short storm we had. I lost Dave's easyup even though both sides of neighbors tried to help us hold it down. Traffic wasn't a huge issue though they didn't have it marked well on how to get into the fest. Vendor prices were reasonable. They actually had art and artists working through the fest so you could see the progression. I can't say enough about how beautiful the land was. There was a small pond that had light reflecting off of it and rolling hills. Hammocks everywhere and thick grass. It was super cool to see people dancing in the water, hooping, and just having fun.
It being the first year of the fest there were some things to improve. The food wasn't very good and the vendors stopped selling bottled water around midnight. They needed more water stations for sure. The first day there weren't enough portos but they quickly brought more in. Counterpoint was quick to lay hay over the mud the morning after the storm. Security seemed clueless as did the first aid/information tent. We didn't have any schedules, maps, or recycling bags given to us and they were out of schedules the first day at the info tent. Signs up to say which artist was where would have been nice. The fire ants were a huge problem. We had two huge mounds of them in our campsite alone and got stung several times but there isn't much you can do about those.
As always, the people make the fest. It was great hanging out with Phi and his friends, Mayo and all of hers, seeing Mac and Iris again, meeting Nickthedick, and we even meet another inforooer who linked the tutus to Mayo. I brought my bestfriend from South Dakota. It was her first fest and first time she has camped since she was a kid. I was so happy with all the great poi spinners and they guys/gals doing the glove work. It was amazing!
I will defiantly be back next year and I'd like to spend a few more days in ATL beforehand. Thanks again Mayo, for being our ATL guide and Zen for making us an amazing lunch and letting us wash up at her place and MikeD and Sarah for hooking us up with all their camping goods <3
Abraand phi said it pretty much. Event signs to the the event would have been very nice. Art and land layout to stages, hill, pond, tent locations were over the top. Music was very good (still upset over the M83 mess and I don't buy the sound excuse for one second). This production company still has left a bad taste in my mouth with some stuff here and bisco. I will now think three times before attending one of their events. They are not rookies people and the mistakes they made were not rookie mistakes.
Nothing is posted (anywhere) from event signs to the festival. Will call lines were for different things, but not posted. So people were sent from line to line cause they were no signs saying what line is what. Some people were getting frustrated cause they went from line to line and got no help. Lack of presents in staff. This was the best thing kanrocksas (a first year fest when i went) did. Always asking people if they ok and just checking on people who looked fucked up. I only saw this once during CP. Plus staff locked like they were more clueless then most the rookie fest attendies. The very few i saw that is. Im all for a lax security but i like having them around in case something happens. I watched a kid put up a hammock with his staps on two polls of the beat tent in the back. he went ham bouncing on his hammock and was shaking the two polls lose. What happens when one of them fall? and it was pretty crowded back there. yet no security was back there. I had to find the very few event staff in the front. and it just seemed like they were very disorginized and had no clue. I didn't really fell overhead presents at all. They act claim clueless when it seems to be for a quick buck. bisco they packed it out the year i went and i still have issues about what happened. i waited three hours in a search line sitting still cause they had no where to put us and they were still selling tix. A place they had bisco for 9 years prior and they didn't know when to cap tix? they just do some things that make me seem like they are out for the money first. but they did do some stuff this event that made me very pleased.
lack of presence..... damn them for not bring gifts
sorry my grammer is not at your liking. Yeas i is sucs @ ITS. get over it. you got the point.
last edit i promise: and yes my grammer does suck for the record and i am well aware of it that i just ignore it completly when i type. i turn off auto correct cause it hates me. and google is my best friend. yes google, i did mean presence. and yes i did look it up. im that bad. smh
oh and did anyone else notice the abundance of emt carring off kids. when i was walking back and forth on friday i saw 5 in a ten min period.
I only saw 3 people being treated. One guy had a seizure at either Avicci or Bassnectar, and it seemed one of the other guys slipped and broke his ankle or leg. Another young guy looked pretty bad off but I didn't know what was going on with that.

Im hoping this was only in my head. The only reason i asked is because when i got back to my campsite that i night i was talking with some neighbors about this and then went to talk to some other set of neighbors and they said it before i could ask.

Just curious...why?
I get tired of looking everything up. on a message board and text i just don't care. now when i was in college writing papers, i spent more time correcting grammer then actually writing the paper.lol.

Perhaps you were taking the wrong courses. (winking emoticon face thingies)

lol..... by the time i hit college i knew there was no help for me in the world of english. I struggled, doing whatever i hadd to to get through what was required. Yes i even cheated alot and the only time i got caught in college. My GF at the time was taking the same class and i was reading her answers in a test. The Prof totally called me out right then.lol.
For a first-year fest, this thing was laid out preeeeetty well. It was a BEAUTIFUL venue. And the stages were laid out in such a way that there was no sound bleed when 2 artists were on at the same time from tents-to-stages. A few logistics things could be improved upon - but otherwise, they were responsive to porto needs, and laying out the hay on the mud after the storm. ALSO - not mentioned yet - was the chopped up carpet in the sand at the tents. It was MAGICAL. On the first night, before there was any rain, there was MINIMAL dust in the tents - which for an EDM fest where there is massive dancing going on, was pure genius. I took a pic, and I want to send it to Bonnaroo/AC/SF to see if they can do something similar. Well planned.
I absolutely am with Abra too on the people - there were children who got a little to effed up on their candies, and required medical assistance, but for the most part, people were well behaved (as you can be for being on candies). There should have been more water - I can't tell you how many sweaty candy ravers were asking, nay PLEADING, vendors for water while I stood in line for my slice of pizza. (Indication #440 that I'm old: I eat pizza after midnight at fests, instead of guzzle gallons of water and eat blow pops.)
I also took out the Panda Posse hood for a trial run on the last day, and it held up well, among the many many many Friends-of-Molly who felt the need to "pet" me as I walked through the crowd. .....ah, I miss the rave days.
Anyhow, we're amped to go back next year. I had such a good time hanging with my Roosters, Phi and Abra, and meeting new Lurker Roosters like dmo who I randomly asked about his radiohead shirt, and he said - wait, tutu and panda hood - are you Mayo??? CRAZY! Such good times! <3333

Was it a Hail to the Thief shirt?
Nope, it was a "Radiohead Crew" shirt. I asked him if he actually worked a show, and he said no it was his friends shirt from the ATL show.

Sounds like a highly successful experience with a few typical first year fest screw ups. Glad everyone had a blast, and thanks for the reviews. CP is definitely know my radar for 2013. Y'all should come down to NOLA for Buku in March.

Im SO jealous of you guys who went to this. I blew my load on Boomslang in KY. No regrets AT ALL about that!! But I wished I could have seen this one as well.
Only so much a body can take, esp if you're hanging with whoreshack the previous weekend!
Glad you folks had fun I'll hopefully catch this next year!
