And it's a city built on cheeze wiz and funyuns, so that's saying something.
Can you please find a new gimmick and stop ruining one of my favorite movie characters all time?
can you please stop being a d*ck. the festival was amazing and so is philly. no mass transit? It was a 10 min walk to 2 major train stations. Oh no it took you 15 minutes to exit the festival ground. each night ended exactly at 11 so where ever you needed to go you could get to if you actually tried. Made in America will be back in philly next year as they announced it sunday night on twitter. Hope you arent back though
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

To answer your question: no.
The festival was very good, I've said that multiple times. For a major US city with over 1.5 million people to have no real mass transit to speak of is pathetic. And don't try to tell me the two subway lines are sufficient, they literally form a cross through the city. So if you need to, oh I dunno, reach one of the outer areas of the city that's not within a couple of blocks of those two central roads you're left fighting to the death with a legion of incoherent tweens for cabs.
And thanks for telling me I had "plenty of time" to get to where I needed to go. I am well aware that time is on my side, but the point is I shouldn't have to trek 45 minutes and then wait another 20 until I rock, paper, scissor some drunk dude for a cab (actually happened). But for those of us not staying in a convenient hotel within walking distance the logistics of this festival were not good. I am not comparing Philly to NY, I'm comparing Philly to other cities of similar size that I've visited for large-scale events. Philly did not handle it well, that doesn't mean it can't improve, but the city itself was not prepared as well as it should have been.
And don't blame me because your city sucks, blame yourself.

if philly's a toilet, NYC is a septic tank and you are the type of filth that fills it.

It's bugging me that I can't think of his old name, but I just remember him as the guy constantly talking about the Phillies and Eagles in all the sports threads.
thanks Elwood Blues for reminding me why i avoided inforoo for the past few months. There's a fine line between humorous jabs/banter and just being a pompous "summers breeze". Next time you should keep an eye out for it instead of bulldozing through it.

Yes, I know it's hard for a city that's seen as a leader in architecture, art, culture, food & drink, entertainment, history and buzz (among other things) on a global scale to compete with a port city whose #1 attraction is a bell with a crack in it, but I guess I'll just have to manage.
I realize I'm a huge homer when it comes to NYC, but c'mon dude. Really?

This thread went unexpected places.
My quick thoughts:
I had a great time at the festival, and I had a good time in Philly. I've had better experiences in the city itself. I'm chalking that up to the fact that on past trips I've stayed with a local, and Philly isn't always the most user-friendly town for visitors, IMO.
The crowd, particularly Saturday, was a little strange to me, even by city festival standards. I didn't have any particularly bad experiences to speak of (one wasted frat daddy inquired about my fighting chops when I told him to quit drunkenly elbowing me), but I did experience more than the usual amount of strong shoves from people arriving 30+ minutes late to a set and trying to get towards the front.
On the plus side, in rough order of enjoyment:
The Hives Jay PJ D'Angelo Miike Snow GCJ Santigold Janelle Monae Passion Pit Run DMC
all made me a very happy fan. I wasn't a huge fan of G.O.O.D. stealing the encore, but I guess it was unique. Likewise, I wasn't a fan of the awkward crappy DJ break during Run DMC's set, but I get and admire the desire to honor FMF's kids and legacy.
Conversely, I thought MMG sort of sucked, to be honest, and Drake wasn't a whole lot better for me. I missed Dirty Projectors, DJ Shadow, and Odd Future, but I'll catch them all at some point. Life goes on.
In short: I'm not sure I'd return to MIA again because it was a very expensive trip for a 2 day fest coming from Texas, but I'm definitely glad I made the inaugural event with some great friends.
And I have love and respect for Philly and its history and culture, even if it takes more effort to enjoy than NYC or Boston.
In the spirit of being proactive can we throttle it back on direct insults and keep the discussion on topic. Lord knows Inforoo is always itching for a good shitstorm ;-) Just wanted to put out a PSA before that is what this turns into. Thanks, carry on.
Welcome back Kev, take your shoes off, stay awhile.
Jay Z/Jay T combo is playing Philly 3 weeks before the MIA so iunno if Timberlake is gonna be there but wouldnt surprise me. Maybe Tom Petty showing up as the Rock Headliner. I wish I payed more attention to the whole list of tour dates as I was trying to piece together the Roo lineup. Didnt even think to check if last weekend of August had dates for most bands.Maybe Kendrick? Kayne was last year so maybe the Queen B will show this year. (Insert a few EDM acts(ZEDD, Aoki, STS9) underrated rappers and R&B artist for the day slots, an OVERATED rapper before the rock headliner, and a WOAHHHH!!!! gotta see them show)
I only went Sunday last year. I found that staying at the main stage all day was way easier then even trying to jump from stage to stage.
