I'd be suprised if they hadn't been brought up previously in this thread, but Glass Animals.
If there were any justice in the world, Danny Brown.
I just saw Danny early October. I feel like he's sobered up, which can be good, but when he performs songs like "Dip" it's kind of weird. It's just not the same when a 35+ year old is yelling MOLLY, and you can tell he doesn't really feel it.
Really surprised Glass Animals isn't already bigger than they are. Where I live I'm not sure they would have enough fans to fill our our small/medium venues.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
In no particular order, a few bands I think have the potential to reach that level. Some of them might take less than 5 years to get there considering today's festival landscape, and some of them might just be bands I'd like to see headlining in 5 years...
Portugal. The Man Mac DeMarco Real Estate Twin Peaks Foals Cage the Elephant Manchester Orchestra

I can only see Cage reaching that level, in the US at least. Maybe PtM.

I love PtM but it would take another one or two HUGE singles like Feel it Still and an album that got a lot of buzz to move up. But then again I wasn't thinking of tame or Post as headliners so I'm out of touch

They've got their foot in the mainstream door which is more than can be said about most rock bands. SK got a steal in booking Tame and from a quick glance at the Coachella thread, it looks like they were meant to play 2020 and just got bumped a year early. They also have an album coming soon.
Post Malone was definitely going to be a #3 and #4 at the very least. Rockstar, Congratulations, Better Now, White Iverson, and Psycho were all huge (along with b&B) and he has a very relatable, marketable personality. Being white also helped him. Not sure why people were surprised when he was first on his day at Roo.
Holy shit, I had no idea they were that huge. Good for them I guess, but wow they don't feel nearly that big to me
Yeah I don't know how they swung it. They're big but I did not see that leap coming
they’ve been selling out progressively bigger venues in NY for multiple nights every September for a few years now. It’s a little surprising, but since it’s just a one night gig, it makes sense. I’m definitely gonna buy a pair of tickets next Friday.

Cage for sure. They're already top 8 at this point. But I have difficulty seeing any of the others, and I say that as huge fans of Manchester and Twin Peaks.
Foals has a much bigger following in the UK, right?
I'd throw in Halsey and King Princess just for the crossover appeal between mainstream pop and "indie" twee-ness.

Probably. She hasn’t released a proper album if I’m not mistaken and yet she’s already 2nd line on her day at Coach.
I don’t personally get the appeal, but oh well.
Her album comes out on Friday I believe - maybe next week but definitely soon. But she ticks a lot of boxes for what's in right now - heavy bass, overall minimalist sound, very open about her emotions and mental health issues. And silver hair. I saw an interview with her once and her overall demeanor was very grounded and chill, so she seems pretty relatable as well. I know nothing about her live show but I see definite parallels between her and Lorde.

I still have yet to listen to her at all. Probably someone I should check out just to stay aware.

Oh wow, didn't realize it was that far out. Apple Music has pushing it hard as an upcoming release recently so I thought it was sooner. Good to know, thanks!
She is a very boring mix between Lorde and Halsey. I can’t imag many people on the board will like her. But she has had absurdly fast growth. I could see it maybe being too fast and her maybe not getting there. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she headlines in an album or two

I think she might've just announced it a week or two ago, which could explain the push

Yeah I guess i was pretty stoned when i posted that. In reality those are just a bunch of bands I think are good and want to see play to a crowd of 80,000
I saw Billie Eilish last year. She played one of those holiday radio station shows. Undoubtedly the worst performance I saw all year. She had a bad stage presence, couldn't hold a note or even sing all of the words.....it was atrocious.
she just announced a tour with Denzel Curry as her opener, so she's definitely growing at a fast rate. I really enjoyed her Roo set last year under a shady tree. I had no idea who she was though until she performed Ocean Eyes and I was like HOLY SHIT
Billie is just an industry plant that can't sing or even write a song. But teenagers are eating it up, so unfortunately she probably will be headlining soon.
Her show in my city moved from a 3300 capacity theater to a 8000 capacity mini-arena before tickets even went on sale

What does industry plant even mean? Is that just internet code for “person with a good manager who makes music I don’t like”?
