That Mason Ramsey Walmart video was totally set up, so if you want to call him a plant I get it. But there seems to be very little distinction between “being a plant” and “having a manager” these days.
Billie is just an industry plant that can't sing or even write a song. But teenagers are eating it up, so unfortunately she probably will be headlining soon.
Her show in my city moved from a 3300 capacity theater to a 8000 capacity mini-arena before tickets even went on sale
What does industry plant even mean? Is that just internet code for “person with a good manager who makes music I don’t like”?
I guess it means whatever you want it to mean since you're an expert on all things everything.
I guess "good manager" means having millions of soundcloud views because the "good manager" farmed streams. Or playing the Which stage in 2018 and getting 2nd line on Coachella 2019 before releasing a full length. Or having an industry family that handed her a career. Totally normal things, that any decent manager could do for any musician.
Any evidence they bought streams for her? Edit: she just instantly sold out the Anthem at $70 a ticket. Is there something fake about that?
Would she be selling out the Anthem at $70 a ticket if her team hadn't been busy establishing her hype for the last year? If she had organic growth, like she claims, would she be this big already? I think you know the answer, you're just being argumentative and condescending because that's your schtick.
There is some debate, but at least she had a mega-hit in her pocket when she got big and there is evidence she can write a song.
The only time I've heard Billie on the radio was literally last week when they released the new single. And it's on record that she has nothing to do with the song writing process.
Billie Eilish had clout long before she started doing music, nothing industry plant about her she's just a hypebeast. abefroman1 you're talking horseshit.

You’re acting pretty defensive right now Abe. If she’s an industry plant there’s should be a pretty clear rationale, but all you’re coming up with is “she’s more popular than I think she should be.”

My friend is in an unsigned band. Hired a good manager through personal connections based on demos. Manager got a song placed in a commercial in Germany and then the song went #1 in the alt-charts. Is he an industry plant?

So we have have the same amount of evidence for both of our stances. But yeah, 51 million streams on a random soundcloud song that came with no other material is totally normal and shouldn't be viewed with any suspicion. My bad, sorry for thinking that way boss. I promise not to have a differing opinion from you in the future. You sure showed me.

Getting a platform/gatekeeper to promote your streams is what managers do. That could be Spotify playlist placement, Apple Music, Hillydilly, the synch rep at an ad company. Getting through on any of those is how the business works now, and you’re paying a manager to use their connections to make that happen. If you want to call that being an industry plant, fine, but it doesn’t make sense to me.

I feel like some acts have been shoved down my throat with no organic appeal other than manufactured hype but I have no info to back this up and certainly not enough to argue about it online.
