This was my first roo.. and actually this is my first post, sadly to post about the one negative thing that happened while i was there. We were in between pods 2-3. Friday night during Radiohead my fiance and I went back to our tent only to realize that someone had trashed ours and around 8 others on the same row. Luckily we had locked everything of importance in the car. The girls across from us.. not so lucky. 2 Cameras gone an Ipod a camelback and more. The guys beside us had a sticky zipper so their door was ripped off of their tent. I have to say it did put a damper on my mood but I am most certainly going to Bonnaroo a yearly holiday.
Our rental car was broken into Thursday evening. They took 300 plus in cash, my iPhone, my old canon, and a whole carton of cigarettes. It pretty much put a damper on my entire roo.

Our neighbors had two friends sneak into the campgrounds and hang out with them at their campsite all weekend.
Initially, I wasn't too opposed to this, but after thinking about it more I wondered how common this is. The guys said they just offered a couple bowls of corn to some locals whose property backed up to the grounds, and said locals let them pass right through their yard. They ended up being two super nice guys and looked out for all our and our neighbors' stuff while we were at Centeroo; but still, the idea of the campgrounds being an open area for anyone to enter is a bit shady.

Every year this thread pops up and every year it just severely bums me out I wish we all could just get a long peacefully. So many people's weekends are ruined by another persons cheap selfishness. And for what? a couple of bucks or a days worth of corn?
I wonder if the people who steal know what they are doing consequence wise. It's one thing if you see 20 dollars on the ground, in the end nobody's really gonna get hurt if that went missing. But to ransack and steal backpacks, ID's, wallets, you are ruining peoples entire weekend just for a cheap thrill!

My first year I put everything of value in my SUV and locked it up when I went to Centeroo. No problems. This year I loosened up and left everything unlocked, but NEVER let my keys, wallet and phone out of my possession. Again, no problems.
In any random sampling of 80,000 people you're going to have a few hundred bad actors. Just keep your eyes open for someone looking suspiciously larcenous and better still, ask your neighbors to do the same. And always secure your most sensitive stuff.
If some wook makes off with a cooler full of junk food and crappy mass market beer in cans, no big loss. Better than being stranded 700 miles from home with no money and no way to communicate.
One of our campmates had a Camelbak stolen, and then the next night our campsite got kinda ransacked and poor Mayo had her tent slashed. Luckily they didn't take anything other than that same guy's car keys, but they ditched 'em on the ground not far away (presumably once they discovered his car was not there). Neighbors told us that a bunch of tents in our area were slashed and ransacked like that.
Yes. My sixth Roo and this is the first time I've ever had something like this happen. For locations sake, we were in Pod 9, Roger Podacter. On Thursday night, I think was when the camelbak was taken - fortunately, no important things were in it - wallet, ID, keys were all intact in campmate's tent. Then Friday we got back to camp after Radiohead, and noticed camp looked pretty messy. Then I stepped into my OPEN UNLOCKED NO RAIN FLY ON IT tent, and all of my shit had had been tossed, and the RAINPROOF BOTTOM had a 5' gash in it. Seriously? You couldnt just go through the zipper door? or even through the 6' tall screen windows on three sides? I was also pretty grossed out that someone had touched my pillow. *shudder* Fortunately, I dont keep anything important in my tent, everything stays in the TRUNK. And whoever the idiot is, he left enough prescription pills to get him through the weekend bc they had a generic name on them. SUCKA.
Anyhow, I was pretty sad about it. It's one thing I miss about Pod 1; the lack of randos walking around the camp sites. In Pod 1, you arent there unless you're camping there. So I imagine there's less crime.

This seemed to be true for us, this year specifically there were having a problem with unwanted vendors and invitees so they even put in generators with giant lights and a chain-link fence along the treeline. Our campsite was out in the open and went completely untouched. We had a couple valuables accidentally left outside overnight and we woke up to them still being there.
Mayo I'm so sorry to hear about that. I'm glad nothing of value was taken, but that still must have sucked.

Very true from what I saw. most everyone I saw walking thru campsites there were legit. I nkow I left my truck unlocked all day saturday with my laptop, tablet and other goodies in it.

To follow up on MISTERROOSTERNY's post about BLACKLILY. All true. I am a for real festival kinda cat. I love people, and always put others ahead of myself. BLACKLILY and I had (I thought) actually become pretty tight through FB chat over the last month or so. I would have NEVER in a million years thought she would be scamming me. It was almost like a totally different person did the trip with us. Rude. Anti-social. Although she was warned that the drive from Easton, PA would be a tough one...all she did was complain and roll her eyes at EVERYTHING. But still...we welcomed her into our group with loving, open arms.
Pre-Roo on Wednesday...we visited a good family in Tennessee who had been my neighbors at several other Roo's (mostly destiny putting us in the same campground). BEAUTIFUL, comfortable house. BLACKLILY was absorbed into the family. She accepted all the hospitality...food and drink...but chose to sleep the afternoon away, which is fine...but she had no appreciation for anything. If any of you were there with us, you would have walked away thinking, "WOW. What an AMAZING WAY to kick off our Bonnaroo..." Seriously. I left the house just FULL of LOVE in my heart. What a great way to start...
Did the Walmart thing...met up with some people (some new friends from Inforoo & a new friend I met at Hangout Festival), and into the line we went. You know how it is...THE SCRAMBLE when you get to your site...start rolling your gear out. The combination of THAT and the long drive...well...you aren't all that motivated to do much else. So...I decided I would figure out the gas and tolls total in the morning (the whole reason BLACKLILY joined us: to share travel costs), and collect then. She was also buying (from me) the BONNAROO ticket she used to get in as well, which I had her register...whole 9 yards before we even left for Roo...
Right from the jump, it was evident that she was not a friendly person with regards to our (WONDERFUL) new camp neighbors. We had THE TIGHTEST campsite. GREAT characters. And she just sat there. Not inter-acting with anyone. All I got from her was eye-rolls and this "you're an asshole" look...anytime I got the crew busting out with laughter (something I'm pretty good at!). But still...she was treated with UTMOST KINDNESS...She didn't even have a tent...which is fine...we had enough gear to accomodate (and by the way...the two people who slept in the tent with her that night confided in me the next day that she absolutely STANK LIKE ASS)...
So...she disappears...apparently to go hang with the Inforoo-ers at that site, which is cool...we are all there to party the way we want to party...to hook up with other friends...etc. No one is locking anyone down to hang with us, and to be honest...initially...we weren't all that bummed out that she wasn't hanging with us. As far as festival campsites go, she was the proverbial STICK IN THE MUD. It was all about new friends and LOVE with the other two dozen or so people there. So...she is gone for the day....
I get it together to add things up. I sent her a text: "Hey Shonda...when you get back to camp, I'd like to square up on the money...gas & tolls is $95, and of course the ticket is $275...for a total of $370. I'm kinda counting on that for my Roo spending money. Thanks!" No response. But a little later in the day...she makes an appearance at camp. "Heya Shonda...did you get my text?" YEP. I'm thinking: Cooool. But I blink my eyes...and she's gone again. And that was the last we saw of her. Left a suitcase full of clothing...all the food and beer she bought...everything.
So at this point...we aren't thinking SCAM. As the days pass, we are worried. Checking with the Police, Sheriff's, Medical Pods. I mean...not only do I NOT have the money she owes...but a significant part of my weekend was stressing over if this new "friend" is OK...did she do some bad substances, was she assaulted, is she alive? You know...the kinda stuff GOOD PEOPLE would be concerned with. All attempts to communicate with her go UNANSWERED. Other questions start to arise...like...what do we do Monday morning if she hasn't contacted us? We all have lives we have to get back to...do we leave without her?? You know...all of these things really tainted the otherwise GREAT weekend...WTF wants to be worried and concerned about all this??
Then we discover she has unfriended the 3 of us (in the direct travel mission) on FB. Then it started to become clear...SCAM. And I'm out of $370. Because of me and my big ole trusting give people the benefit of the doubt HEART. There were calls going out to burn her stuff...or even just leave it there. But that's not what I do. Even under these awful circumstances, we packed her stuff up and brought it with us. And even trying to let her know I have her stuff and am prepared to get it back to her? UNANSWERED. But that is the difference between her and I. I am all about OTHER PEOPLE. She is all about HERSELF. And in this particular case...that means screwing people over to hold onto her money, even if it means ruining someone elses weekend/financial situation. Just a warning to all: DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH BLACKLILY!! Her name is Shonda Lorraine Rose Young (as far as we know). HER HEART IS NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE!! IT IS BLACK & EVIL

Damn froq, that sucks major donkey d!ck. What did she say when you gave her the wristband? "Oh I just have to find an ATM"?!?!? Dude, I hate people that give humanity such a bad name.
Post by guitarheroo on Jun 14, 2012 8:24:19 GMT -5
that's a sucky story. I'm sorry that happened to you guys. I missed out on this year's roo, but the last 4 years I've been I have only met the most amazing people, including those I've met through inforoo and still keep in contact with.
Lately I've been getting the feeling that humanity as a whole is moving towards this completely selfish mentality. It brings me down daily, and I can see it just driving down the street during rush hour.
Still, I'm sure those of us that have legitimate good vibes will keep spreading the love unto others. I'm about to become a father and my new purpose in life is to teach my son how to be honest, grateful, and ultimately treat others as he would like to be treated.
Spreading the love at bonnaroo feels great, but it feels even better to do it every day of your life.
Was blacklily the black girl wearing the grey Inforoo shirt at the Brunch?
That was the girl with the unsightly angle and random dog in her signature picture. I don't remember if that was blacklily though... Didnt that girl's signature also have pics of wristbands?

GardenFresh...No...I mean...I had asked her if there were any issues with paying me for the ticket and the gas a couple days before lift off...and you know...that was good enough for me...I have too much faith in people...that is my problem...
LawnGnome...I wasn't there, so I couldn't tell you what she was wearing. But she is what I would refer to as an "unfortunate looking woman"...wearing a bad wig/weave that looks like it hasn't been taken care of AT ALL...face kinda pock-marked...and she had what appeared to be a long scar down her chest...the kind one might have from open-heart surgery...
Lately I've been getting the feeling that humanity as a whole is moving towards this completely selfish mentality. It brings me down daily, and I can see it just driving down the street during rush hour. ---- Spreading the love at bonnaroo feels great, but it feels even better to do it every day of your life.
and this why I live by "Act nicer then you are feeling" mentality - sh!t be crazy lately. Everywhere.

your forgot the beer!
the one incident we had was someone who came through saturday night and was rummaging through our coolers. by the time lisa got up they were scared off, but we were missing a few drinks. no big deal - PEOPLE SHOULD JUST ASK THOUGH! i am always willing to share our stuff.
that was such a minor incident and like gardenfresh said, we really lucked out. although the lights/generator was annoying as quack, i definitely think it helped to dissuade most would-be pirates creepin' along the tree line.
and OMG mayo that is super horrible. i am so sorry that happened to you. it makes me sad people have to do things like that.

I was also camped in darth vader and some of my friends things got stolen. I came back to camp on saturday night to find a guy trying to go through a friends ten i asked him what he was doing and he ran off.
We've been really lucky so far but probably because of these stories every year we pretty much lock up everything. I know last year there were a ton of things stolen in Pod 11 where we were.
We have an F150 with a toneau cover that locks so we just put everything back into the truck and lock it. Even the coolers, our chairs, table and our clothes. The only thing left out is the tent obviously, the cots and sleeping bags/pillows.
It's a pain but I really don't want to be a victim of this. It's the kind of thing that would completely ruin the weekend for me.
Were you guys in VIP or just GA? I can't believe someone would just cut through tents like that!
Thanks everyone for the love. You know, i was pretty sad, and i cried a little that night. But the LOVE from my campmates and our neighbors really turned it around. Ztojtof was there to give me a big hug and help me put away my stuff. And then Thatmeghan and her hubs got home and busted out some tape from their emergency car kit, and hubs even went to the pod center to get some duct tape, and even though they were all dog tired, helped tape it up for the night. Then offered me their tent when it got all rainy. Then our neighbors the next morning asked what was up and had found Dougie's keys and returned them to us. They also went up to the Pod center and reported everything for me.
So a bad really was turned into a good bc of the True Roo-ers who want to share nothing but love. So my tent may be ruined, but my weekend wasnt. <3 <3 <3
To those who were camping/riding with Blacklily - THAT SUCKS. I mean, she was posting all up on these boards and everything. Being hoodwinked is no fun, esp by someone who poses as a good person. Im sorry you guys had to deal with that. But now we know, and I doubt she'll be welcome here anymore. Inforoosters stick together. Don't y'all worry - the karma slap will hurt her. Meanwhile, the karma hug will get back to you all eventually. <3

This TOTALLY sucks. I met her at brunch and got the same kinda vibe. Sorry this happened. Don't let it take away from your giving and kind nature though. There's a bad one for ever 99 good ones. And yes, she was the one with the dog/barely clothed pics.

MAYO & ABRAKAPOKUS...thank you for your kind words & support! You know...I always say...that you learn something new at every festival...sometimes...it is when you see some kinda festival ingenuity at a campsite....or some new camp gadget that would make the weekend better...this time...our lessons were DOOZIES! There are certain mistakes we won't repeat....Much LOVE to you BOTH, sweetest sistahs... : )
Had my one-hitter and veggies stolen off the top of my cooler after I crashed out (slept right next to it in a hammock). That's about it though, although I left early Saturday so I expect things got progressively worse as the festival went on and people got more desperate. If I manage to go to Bonnaroo again I'll definitely be a bit more security conscious.

I had no issues at all. My car was parked in Pod 1, locked, and I was in tent only. My tent was never locked, me and zeljocotha both kept our coolers out under my EZ up along with various snacks and possesions and as far as I know nothing was stolen from camp.
Has anyone who camps in tent only ever come back to find their tent tossed or stuff stolen? I'm extremely curious about this, all the stories I've heard so far seemed to take place in the parked camping GA grounds.

One of my neighbors sold $400 worth of fake acid to random strangers. He is then quoted saying "Money doesn't exist here man... it's like you lose it, and then you get it back."
