I know exactly 3 Animal Collective songs. Who wants to give me an AC crash course? I need favorite albums, songs, and just a general introduction to the group, really. What do you recommend?
The 3 songs I've heard, I really like though. Good stuffs

Their most recent album, Merriweather Post Pavillion, is the most accessible, so I think that would be a good place to start. After that, I would suggest Feels or Strawberry Jam. Sung Tongs is really good, but completely different than either of those two (much more laid back and melodic), so I guess that would be the one to check out next. After that, if you're still interested, check out their first two releases: Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished and Danse Manatee...
That's basically the exact way in which I became familiar with them. I really don't have a favorite album of theirs, but if a gun were put to my head, I would choose Feels. It gets so agitated and manic at points while still keeping me captivated.

As Ned has already said, Merriweather Post Pavilion is their most accessible album and arguably what skyrocketed them to success.
Feels is my personal favorite. Its like a Dark Side of the Moon for me. Every time I listen to it I have to start from the beginning and just finish it all the way through. So good.
I started with Strawberry Jam though. My girlfriend at the time made me a mixed cd with 'Unsolved Mysteries' and 'Winter Wonder Land' on it. Those two songs alone got me super interested in this band, although I don't find myself returning to this record often.
Fall Be Kind is a really great EP as well. Strawberry Jam or Feels is my favorite, depending on mood. Sung Tongs is great, as is Spirit. And I also enjoy Hollindagain, their only live album, but it's pretty out there at times.

“My show is actually a version of a mix I made for Ben Allen (Centipede Hz Producer) before we went into the studio. He asked us for a list of songs that we might reference in terms of sound and vibe so he could understand how we wanted the album to sound. We put together a list of songs that either encompassed the overall sound and vibe, or just had specific things we liked, such as drums sounds, or vocal effects. Rather than just send him each song, I thought it’d be fun to make transitions in between each track and sequence it out into 4 separate continuous hypothetical LP sides, which is what we were thinking for the sequencing of our album. For the final show of AC Radio we thought it’d be cool to play this inspirational mix and the album back to back.”

I'm ready mid-September when we can all rehash the Grizzly Bear vs Animal Collective debate of 2009 with the GB vs AnCo debate of 2012. Who wins the hipster album of the year vote this year? Its going to be tough to beat Centipede Hz, but judging by Yet Again and Sleeping Ute, Grizzly Bear might be about to release their best album yet!
I might give these guys a second chance if they get a late night gig. Their 09 show was such a lack luster and the time slot was not the best to see them since it was during the peak hours of when the sun is beating down on everyone.
made my decision: I love Centipede Hz. It is filled with songs that are interesting and exciting, and is good step forward for the band while also showing more of their roots. With all that being said, Shields is the winner. A classic album from beginning to end and my new favorite album of 2012
Animal Collective last night at the House of Blues in New Orleans was fantastic. Their set was exciting; at times energetic and wild, and at other times ambient and entrancing. The crowd energy was the highest I've ever seen at a HoB show.
The best part was afterwards I got the chance to meet and talk to Panda Bear for about three minutes. I told him how much I appreciated them coming to New Orleans, how I loved that they opened with "Rosie Oh," and how I love Tomboy. I was such a fanboy geek, I'm sure, but it was so awesome. He was very nice and polite and smiled the whole time. He is a really down to Earth cool guy. They had to leave for their next show at 1am, so they didn't get a chance to go out and see the city, which I'm sure sucks for touring musicians.
Anyway, the whole experience ranks pretty close up there with the time my wife and I met Thom Yorke. I hope to see them again soon
This is easily one of my top 5 anticipated shows of the weekend. Fingers crossed they get a late night set. I still enjoyed the '09 daytime set, but having their set light night this year will just bring it to a new level.
For those that haven't seen them this time around since Centipede Hz came out, you're in for a treat. Those songs translate amazing live, and having Deakon's energy back with the band is a plus.
Newtown Burnout -> Monkey Riches -> Brothersport -> Peacebone was probably one of the best 30 minutes I've yet to experience at a concert. I know they've been playing Brothersport for a long time now, but this current iteration is absolutely to die for. During the little freakout jam in it, the energy of the crowd was utterly manic. I was stone cold sober for that show and I thought I was about to lift off into some other plane of existence. Getting goosebumps just thinking back on it

Saw them last night, pretty fantastic show with some great setlist additions: What Would I Want? Sky, I Think I Can, Bluish, and motherfucking Purple Bottle! Brothersport was pretty amazing, but My Girls sounded flat and lethargic, easily the worst song out of a good set. Not sure if I'd see them again, but I'll definitely check out some of their Roo set if nothing else is going on.
Yes im pumped for the stage setup i have been waiting to see if they kept the mouth or tried something different, i went to the merriweather show it looked like the crowd was dancing into or out of the mouth either way great effect but i was about 30 feet from stage it looked very cool.

Here Here to some Purple Bottle and What Would I Want? Sky! Seen these guys twice in the past 14 months or so and they've both been some of the best live musical experiences I've ever had. This show at Roo can't come soon enough.
