The Toronto show scheduled for last night was postponed due to an illness in the band. The date will be rescheduled - hopefully before Roo. Not sure if other dates are affected.
Seeing them this Wednesday in Nashville! Can't wait! Wish they were going to have that same creators project production at my show!
Hey Phi - hate to be a bummer - but they just rescheduled that show as well. It's now July 19th. Someone in the band is sick.

Wow, already four shows canceled in advance? I guess one of Dave Maynar's co-workers is in the band.
I'm still debating whether or not I should see them this Sunday in Madison. I'd have to miss the end of my fantasy baseball draft and Selection Sunday, which is the greatest non-sporting sporting event of the year.

To fully be my co-worker, they have to cancel the four dates then be shocked that somebody didn't play the dates for them when they go back on tour.
Seriously, he came back yesterday and was appalled that there was work waiting on him.

I had tics for Detroit on Friday with Dan Deacon, and I can't articulate how crestfallen I am that show was cancelled. I'd been looking forward to it for months. I'm now hoping and praying that they get a LN at 'roo. Please Bonnaroo Gods, make it happen!
"To all of the AC fans out there. I feel its best you hear it right from the horses mouth. It kills me to have to postpone all these shows and it’s something I could never even have imagined happening. I’m positive that we were as excited as you all to visit all of your towns and have a good time together. But because of the strain on my voice that’s being caused by an intense case of strep throat, I am unable to play any of these shows. Unfortunately, I wasn’t diagnosed soon enough and haven’t been able to kick this in the right amount of time. We promise you all that we are doing everything we can to reschedule all these shows asap and we will be visiting your cities. We hope you can all understand and sympathize with the situation. It’s been really fun for all of us to be playing these days and the energy you all give us makes us want to take it further and further with you and give it right back. Hopefully, we can continue to do this together soon. Until then. Stay Well."
with all due respect, i have downloaded like five AC shows and i have tried to listen to it. I want to enjoy it, i wan to like it and be compelled to go and see their show. however i cannot get into it. yet. i may not be cool enough for it and thats ok with me.
Can someone please tell me what they like about this band? I would really like to hear about this band other than how they got shafted by bonnaroo.

You've asked the right guy.
Merriweather is probably the best album to get you turned onto them, followed by (at least for me) Fall Be Kind. Not everyone agrees but just give Fall Be Kind at least 3 listens all the way through and tell me you don't like it.
EDIT: What I like about the band. They have a sound that I know must have always existed, but I've never heard it in such a convenient form. To me, it sounds like music upon which all other music in that genre will be judged. They have created a genre that is unique, and thus the music they create which falls into that genre, being the only music like it, is "generic". At the same time as they have invented something new, their creations within that are cliche in the best possible way.
It is happiness in musical form. It is joy on a sad day, and it is clear blue water in a world of oil-tainted oceans.

Animal Collective make sonic collages which at their best, are overwhelming and harmonious, which pushes some listeners into state of sublimity. Even on Merriweather, which was a departure from their more experimental sound, they demonstrated a talent for building an environment around the listener. My babble probably won't help you if you have failed to understand it so far, I just enjoy finding new ways to rave over the group.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.

I said it somewhere else, but Animal Collective is a grower for sure. I think your biggest mistake is starting with live shows. Their albums are very textured and detailed, really just excellent production. If you find yourself starting to enjoy the albums, then head to live shows, but honestly I don't think you're doing yourself any favors diving in without getting your feet wet. monster wrote up a great band-a-day report for them here. I'd start with Brother Sport, Today's Supernatural, Applesauce, and My Girls if you're looking for an accessible entry to AnCo.

For what it's worth, Fireworks is the one song that turned me into a fan after countless attempts prior, and Strawberry Jam is easily my favorite album of theirs.
Merriweather to start. However that seems to be where a lot of people became fans. I hate to be the 'that' guy but sure if you wanna start there go ahead but Merriweather is far from their best. It's just the most accessible since it's POPier. Strawberry Jam/Feels/Sung Tongs are all fantastic. And Centipede HZ is awesome cause it kicked a bunch of people of the Merriweather bandwagon

+1 on the headphones. I tried so hard to like this band, but it just felt like overload. The other week I went out for a walk with my dog and grabbed my headphones. I don't know why but I was compelled to listen to AC. I started with Feels and then MPP. It was like my walk was being narrated and scored. It was, as the poster above said, sublime. It totally worked for me on a different level through the headphones where I could hear everything. To me they are the type of band that I just can't listen to some random song out of one of their albums. It either has to be the whole album or not at all. They certainly do build an environment for the listener and much of their sound needs the context to be appreciated.
Very excited to see Animal Collective get a late night set this year. Really hoping they pull out a special show, would love to see them in a sunrise set.

I feel like it's ok for alot of people to have started with MPP simply because MPP is a fucking masterpiece and easily the best album they've made. Strawberry Jam is a close second.

Words can't describe my excitement for this, this is going to be one of the weirdest sets I think I have ever seen in my life. I have a feeling we will be getting Centipede Hz in it's entirety sprinkled with randoms from the back catalog.
