Anybody have a clue what that "spiderweb" stuff was that was being passed forward in the back-right section of the crowd? At first I thought it was part of the set but I realized that only the right half of the crowd had it, so somebody must have just brought it. It was purple, kind of hair-like, you could keep pulling it apart and it would just keep spreading. The only word I can think to describe it is "spider web". It was crazy, everybody was really into it. Anybody know where I could find some of that?

seriously amazing show. can't believe they played What Would I Want Sky, and the sound was excellent
Oh dude, listening to Panda play that drum part live was mind blowing. I can't wait to get a boot of the show. Or for the next two times I get to see them this summer.
Missed this for Pretty Lights. I caught a couple of songs and I just don't get this band live. I barely get them on record. Glad it turned out to be exactly what you guys wanted.
Third time I've seen them live. Second time they've been absolutely fucking incredible. I love when they catch those nasty grooves that they'll just ride for minutes on end

Was a little worried about what the setlist might be but it ended up being perfect. Got right up front, ended up finding a cute little hunnie to share the show with. Couldn't have been a better time. Can't wait to see them again in a month. Was a little disappointed they didn't come out for an encore but oh well, still one of my favorite LN show's I've ever seen at Roo
I was listening to Down There on my way to work today. I really wish they'd do a song off that. I know last time I saw them they played Comfy in Nautica so I guess it isn't unheard of for them to play some solo material? Unfortunately I know this isn't going to happen though!
You could just see Avey Tare do a solo live show and hear him play a mess of songs from down there like I did So glad I was able to experience that.

This show easily lived up to my high expectations. I got underneath the tent, albeit a good ways back, and the crowd appeared to be really into it, from start to finish. I know I was! The only thing I would nitpick was the fact they didn't play longer. I was hoping the "One more song" chant would bring them back, but the lights came up and that was it, the end. Seeing those lights, honestly, was the only time I was bummed the entire weekend at 'roo. I didn't want the experience to end.

McCartney won best set by default but this was pure bliss. I've seen them 5 times and this was not only the best AnCo show I've seen but also one of my all time favorites. Caught 2 late 2012 shows and they were amazing in their own right but nothing touched this performance. The crowd, the full band, the set list, the time slot and venue all added up to something really magical.
It goes without saying but I would kill for a live boot of this show!
This was probably the biggest surprise for me at Roo (along with Bjork).
I could never get into Animal Collective on record and my best friend insisted I go with him. I hung out in the back and the first 20 mins or so was just weird. I was almost getting ready to leave and then BAM the show changed and blew my mind.
It seems like they started that way to get rid of people or something hahaha. What really got me was the fact that I looked around and everyone was dancing at a different tempo but every single person was still in beat with the music. Plus I had some awesome neighbors in the back.
It was incredible! In my top 3 shows at Roo for sure. They made themselves a fan.

There are so many posts in this thread I want to quote and I dont want to mess with it so I'm just going to cover the big things I wanted to say. I've been a rabid Animal Collective fan for a few years now and seeing them for the first time was incredible. I still think about this show and it makes me shiver. The spider web thing was so weird and random which made it perfect for an anco show. Everyone was so intent on passing it as if it was a predetermined act. It was bizarre and I loved it. The police academy guy at the beginning was also very strange. I'm sort of short so I couldnt see the stage even though I was in the tent, so when he started doing his thing I was so confused as to what it was. I thought it was samplers or something, but either way it got me so pumped for the set. My only complaint is when the crowd was chanting for an encore and they deflated the inflatable prop they had on stage, it was the most demoralizing thing I have ever witnessed. Wish they would have played til sunrise, but truth be told I would have been more than happy with them playing from noon on thursday to 11pm sunday. I will be seeing them at mountain oasis and as many more times as I can until they break up or die.
Really bummed about missing this. Had I known Pretty Lights was going to play until sunrise, might have gone seen some AC first, but after XX (one of the highlights of my weekend) it was just too damn tempting to stay in my spot for PL.
I'm a big, tall dude, not very coordinated and get anxiety about unpleasant confrontations - people sitting down on the ground at night on blankets and whatnot scare the shiz out of me, because I fear I'll step on them and have a lot of people pissed off at me. Trying to navigate the grounds when there's no light is one of the worst parts of Roo for me personally.

I COMPLETELY forgot about that guy at the beginning until now! Wow...how could I forget something so strange. Thanks for reminding me!
It kind of freaked me out to be honest...the whole first half of that show did. I don't remember the spider web thing everyone is talking about. I only remember seeing someone crawl up the ledge to the left of me.
So many people left at the beginning of that show. Agreed about the end. I was really hoping they'd come out. After Paul they were the PERFECT show for me. I'd forgotten I was tired by the end of it. I'll def be there to see them at Mtn. Oasis. Hope to see you there!

"Man, I'm extremely exhausted. But Animal Collective is about to start. Well, I guess I can get back to the tent and sleep because they're playing Nashville next month and I have tickets and SURELY they wouldn't cancel their set again due to illness." --naive me

If it makes you feel any better, I almost skipped on them myself because of that Nashville date. If anyone else I cared about was playing at the time, I surely would have.
