Is newport hinting at a monsters of folk set? Their new spotify playlist has conor oberst all over it and they tweeted that the mix is a hint of things to come. She & him end there tour a week or so before the festival so maybe it's possible.
That'd be just fantastic. I've been hoping they would do a set at the festival at some point.

Brett Dennen is on the playlist, and he will be in the area during NFF and should have a day free (which is awesome news as I just found out the free Brett Dennen show in Pittsburgh is the same weekend as NFF).
But Brett Dennen, Neko Case, Conor Oberst, First Aid Kit, Thao, Calexico, Jonathan Wilson, and Frank Fairfield all to be added? Seems WAY too good to be true. I can't see much more room than 1 bigger name act on Sunday and a few small acts added to Sat. and Sun.
But here's hoping that something here matches up! (Wake Owl is touring with Brett Dennen; please grab them too NFF!)
Thinking it through a little bit further, I'm thinking that NFF may be hosting a day festival on the west coast (or in Europe).
First off... the playlist is entitled "Newport Folk Presents" which is what they call the shows they host.
Second... Way Over Yonder would be a great west coast (or European) festival name if it's being sponsored by a festival on the east coast (in the US).
Third... Conor Oberst has a string of CA shows announced for October with the Felice Brothers opening (who are also on the playlist).
Fourth... Conor and First Aid Kit both played NFF last year (Conor in a pretty high spot); neither of them have released any new material.
Fifth... First Aid Kit will be in Europe until and including the Friday of NFF; Calexico will be in Europe the middle of July and again at the beginning of August; Jonathan Wilson will be in Europe until and including the Thursday before NFF; Thao is booked for all 3 days of NFF (although, is on the east coast).

^^^^ Really like their sound. They get a lot of play on my favorite XM station. Would love to see them. There's another group really catching my ear on same station that I need to remember to ask Quacker to Spotify: Kodaline.
Is it the song High Hopes? Knowing your good taste in music, I decided to Spotify them myself and I really like the tune.
That be the one. Dont think i've ever heard my music taste defined as good, But i will confidently state that i have a very good ear for a tune that will be commercially successful way before it gets successful. There are pitches throughout this song that remind me a lot of ColdPLay and yet uniquely their own at the same time.

I feel like I have a good commercial ear as well. I pride myself on calling Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, Foster the People, and The Lumineers before their debuts were even released (and have some Facebook evidence to back it up).
We won't mention all of the bands I was wrong about though, haha; selective memory.

Back -- eh.. it would have been 1998 1999 because i was working 120 hours a week on year 2000 software remediation (yes it was real) at midnight a boston station played something like Make it or break it. They would play a song from a new artist not yet 'released' and peeps would call in and say they will make it - or break the record. I was often driving home at that time. To this day i remember emailing Quacker one morning and saying you have got to check out this guy Jack Johnson. He's going to do really really good commercially. There were a lot back then. I dont miss driving home at midnight or the 120 hour weeks, but i miss that show. I primarily listen to Spectrum on XM and they have now got a similar show going from time to time. yay.
Was in Newport earlier today. Was driving down a road in nearby Middletown and saw some random building with a couple small offices, a sign out front "George Wein's Folk Festival" and below that "Jazz Festival". I take it that's where all the behind the scenes stuff goes down.
Anyway, NFF season is quickly approaching us. And seeing that made me a little more excited for what's coming up.
I'm thinking they've gotta make a few additions. Last year, 42 acts played on Saturday/Sunday. This year, they've only got 35 scheduled for those two days. I'd imagine maybe 4-5 more acts being added, right?
I was thinking the same thing. Unless booking acts like Beck and The Avett Brothers cost more than booking MMJ (with Jim James on the festival board) and Jackson Browne.
I'm really (and semi-realistically) hoping for Shakey Graves, Wake Owl, Dawes, Reignwolf, and/or The Tallest Man on Earth to find their way onto the lineup. And while way more of a stretch, I'm hoping for John Fogerty, Eric Church (my guilty pop. country pleasure), or Beirut.
On a side note, I tweeted NFF today asking if they would have a .jpg version of the lineup, and they said that they are currently working on one. I would expect if there were additions, they'd be on it.

Did anyone hang around outside of the sold out Deer Tick shows last year and get lucky by scrounging up an extra ticket?
I just found out that my +1 is able to go to NFF with me again (or is at least very likely at the moment), and because she was looking very unlikely at the time the Deer Tick tickets went on sale (and because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to sell any extras back), I only bought one ticket for Sunday.
The good news is I'm more excited that she can go than I would be for the Deer Tick show; so at the very least I'll just sell my one ticket at the door. But I would really love to do at least one of the after shows with her.

Gave 2 tickets away at the door last year.... but we have QSAROO in our blood.
There were a few peeps right by the door when we got there, 3 to be exact. And mentioned before we learned of a 'waiting list'. I'd take the by the door odds..
Sorry all but I don't have the time to go through 15 more pages of this thread in hopes that the answer might be here. I have been offered a last minute pass but I would be going solo and have no idea about lodging situations in the area. Does anyone know of any campsites or cheap hotels (if price is right I can possibly join a group that needs people) any assistance would be most helpful. TY in advance
No idea on camping. Cheap hotels are probably all going to be up towards Warwick (TF Green Airport), and that'll be a solid hour to Newport. But it's manageable, as me and my gf commute from Woonsocket (far northern RI, about 90 minutes per way).
Summer, a weekend, and a festival on top - you're paying a premium to stay in Newport. Or anywhere on/near that island.

I booked my room at the best western in newport and it was reasonable. I spent about $400 for the whole weekend but i don't know what availability in town is like now that i'm sure most people already have their travel plans in place. You are also forced to get a minimum of two nights at most places or you willl probably be told nothing is available.
