Well he never seems to stop playing shows so maybe he was just holding out to make sure he could line everything up if he's planning on announcing dates soon. He's also getting up there in age so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities that he was having some issues and just wanted to make sure he would be up to the task first.
Rereading this thread to prevent my eyes from wandering to the Bonnaroo related posts and subsequently causing withdrawal from not being there this year.
I'm thinking they've gotta make a few additions. Last year, 42 acts played on Saturday/Sunday. This year, they've only got 35 scheduled for those two days. I'd imagine maybe 4-5 more acts being added, right?
I was thinking the same thing. Unless booking acts like Beck and The Avett Brothers cost more than booking MMJ (with Jim James on the festival board) and Jackson Browne.
I'm really (and semi-realistically) hoping for Shakey Graves, Wake Owl, Dawes, Reignwolf, and/or The Tallest Man on Earth to find their way onto the lineup. And while way more of a stretch, I'm hoping for John Fogerty, Eric Church (my guilty pop. country pleasure), or Beirut.
On a side note, I tweeted NFF today asking if they would have a .jpg version of the lineup, and they said that they are currently working on one. I would expect if there were additions, they'd be on it.
Last year they listed all the museum bands in the digital poster, this year the Low Anthem revue and the Nashville To Newport's are not, if you add up all the bands in those two sets you actually get 12 more artists which makes 47.
In regards to Beirut they have mentioned asking him each of the last three years with zero response from the Beirut camp. Also Tallest Man was also asked to come back but they said he was busy.

Heh, through the magic of facebook a friend posted this pic of me (center) and my girls at Newport Folk...FIFTEEN years ago! Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Donna the Buffalo, Tom Rush, Marc Cohn, Janis Ian... all for the (very pricey for me at the time!) cost of $39 for the weekend As I recall, we sat in traffic for like 5 hours to get to the park. Ben and Jerry gave a speech about recycling and I ate a lot of ice cream; their ice cream on a stick was a new invention. There weren't a ton of acts...maybe 6 per day? I got to talk to Amy Ray for like 5 seconds and I almost died...security was so lax, you could waltz right up to the backstage and talk to the artists over the fence. Can't wait to go back to Fort Adams!

The schedule worked out pretty fantastic for me except for Kingsley Flood conflicting with Milk Carton Kids and Andrew Bird overlapping quite a bit with Lumineers and Beck.
Surprised to see Feist not closing out Friday. Now I know why NFF tweeted that OCMS was also a headliner.
The overlap of Jim James/Father John Misty/Jason Isbell is the only issue I have, but it can be worked out. Overall i'm quite pleased.
Yeah I just looked - if I were going it would be fairly clean. That JJ/FJM and the Lord Huron into the Felice Brothers overlapping with Kiwanuka would be the only ones that need work. It's a nice schedule all things considered.
Just noticed another terrible conflict for me: the congestion between Frank Turner, Houndmouth, and The Lone Bellow into Shovels and Rope. That'll be a game time decision. Love all 4 bands. I imagine 3 of the 4 will have fun high energy shows.

Yup, that's my main issue as well. Would have liked to see more Kiwanuka too but I'll be at Felice Brothers for sure
That's a bummer of an overlap but overall not bad. Interesting to see Friday starting early and those wild and crazy kids playing until 7:30 instead of 7 pm! Newport loosened up a bit there on that!
The Jim James / Jason Isbell / FJM conflict is a bitch. Even with taking out Jim for having seen him three times already this year, that leaves a pretty shitty decision to make.
I really wish Jim was playing Going to Acapulco and All the Best on this tour. Is it too much to hope that he may bust these folk covers out at a folk festival?
I'm also surprised (looking at the past few shows at least) he's not playing any of his covers off of the George Harrison tribute album.
I may need to force myself to listen to his new solo album a few more times. Outside of A New Life, I really haven't been able to love it as much as I want to.

The Mountain Goats vs. Phosphorescent vs. Feist is kind of a terrible conflict on NFF's part. Granted, Feist is an easy decision for me, but it's kind of odd that they put all of the Pitchfork approved folk bands on that day on at the same time.
^That's sad. Still go You already bought a ticket, correct? Does that mean others on the board have a chance to snag it off of you?
I forgot that I drunkenly checked out the schedule Saturday night. I agree that this is better than last year's. There are certainly conflicts, but it wouldn't be a festival if there wasn't any. Especially a festival with a focused style of music. Mid-late afternoon on Saturday and Sunday are rough. Saturday will (hopefully) be easier as it's looking that I am going to see FJM with before MOEMS. Shovels to Jim to the end of Jason Isbell.
There's also the Nashville to Newport expanses of time to keep in mind. Some fabulous things could happen there..
