im guessing the deer tick thing has something to do with skywriting. based on the images they have and the #lookup
Ha, that makes sense. I would also keep an eye on that Nashville to Newport set that is happening at that time.
I think it might just be a contest to win tickets to their Sunday night after-show. It says on their FB that people are supposed to submit their pictures of the skywriting on Instagram in order to win tickets. Have no idea what the skywriting will be.

awesome after show for night #1. phosphorescent got a surprise set of cover songs and deer tick rocked as usual. langhirne slim was great as was the very first act sourpunch. taylor from dawes showed up. they did a two man "million dollar bill" that got me all giddy. they played way over scheduled time and we were almost kicked out before being able to buy a poster.
I love Langhorne Slim. Another local Philly dude. I always bring him up when discussing similar acts that should have gotten more popular than the Lumineers did.

Avett brothers just had a mini set and questions/answers at the museum stage. so good. Now Jim James is coming out soon. So awesome. the folk with funk workshops turned out to be a pretty awesome time.

The last song was off of New Multitudes, a Woody Guthrie song that was never released. They rocked that shit at the end. I thought the platform the drums were on was going to collapse

ahhh thats right. Thanks. Parts sounded a lil familiar but I havent listened to New Multitudes enough
^^^^ 15 ft from the stage with Dancat, Quacker, and TLC! We felt a little, ok not really, sorry for all those folks that left early to go get set for Avetts. Don't they know that The Last Bison playing tomorrow + Colin = Decemberists? Though Quacker has thought COlin would join them not vica versa. Great set, very entertaining!
My must see, The Lone Bellow gave me goosies the whole time!
Sarah Jarosz - Good. Nothing which was really standout, but still good. Houndmouth - Was enjoying it. But had enough of the sun and weather by that point and really needed the shade tent. Frank Turner - better than what I was expecting Jim James - I wish there was more than an hour. Why did it have to stop? Jason Isbell - I caught the last 15 minutes, and I wish he wasn't in a conflicted time slot. I would have loved to see more here. Colin Meloy/The Decemberists - Sounded good, but wasn't paying enough attention Avetts - wasn't digging it at all, left early

Yeah Beck seemed pretty empty. I think everyone started packing up after the lumineers. Worked for me because it was the only show of the weekend I got right up front for.
If anyone is interested or curious, I recorded the video of a weird conglomerate of stuff on Friday, then the Avett Brothers, Andrew Bird, Beck, Beth Orton, Black Prarie, Bombino, Colin Meloy, (last 10 minutes of) Jim James, Lord Huron, the Lumineers, Michael Kiwanuka, Jack Elliot, and Trombone Shorty.

Recorded the video streams or audio?
Either way I'd be interested
Video streams.
I'll see about getting them uploaded someplace as soon as I get a chance to.

A lot of people had been leaving after the Lumineers. I would say 25% of the crowd had been gone by that point. Even Fawn and Tara left before Beck started.
Psrt of the problem is, there is only one way in and out of the fort. (Well, two if you count the ferries back to the other side of the harbor.) Lines can get very long getting out - so people try and beat out traffic. It takes a while to get out of the parking lot, then a while having to push your way north through the city of Newport.
Newport is a weird situation where a lot of people buy tickets, then just only come to see what they want and leave afterwards.
