Had an awesome time. I'm a new fan of Langhorne Slim, Frank Turner, Phosphorescent, and Spirit Family Reunion. Avetts set was pretty good but nothing too crazy. I preferred Beck's which was a lot more fun. His banter was good and not overly long and the guests/songs they played were awesome. Loved the acoustic versions of many of the songs.
Langhorne Slim was my big find. I had seen him before do a song or two as a guest at things but this weekend was the first time seeing full sets from him. His opener set at the Deer Tick show was really great and then seeing it on the main stage the next day was cool too....watching the bigger audience take it in. Big big fan now.
Great time as usual. Love being able to easily find people at the place. Only drawback are the tarp nazis who choose to sit right up front on the edge of the "standing room only" and then complain about people standing near them or blocoking their view (while they are sitting down in low chairs). I especially loved all the surprise sets they had going on. Lots of cool things happening around the festival.

I missed nashville to newport as well and i would have liked to see it but i just never wanted to stand in line to go in but at least i got to see steelism saturday night when they showed up at the blues cafe and was pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, that line is a bit ridiculous. I tried to get into Carl's set last year, and there was just no way.
I found this in searching for footage. Toy Soldiers doing a song, with Joe Fletcher sitting there watching.
Really good, with a slight disappointment for the Felice Brothers being missing during the final couple of songs with everyone on stage. They sang a "every artist on stage" version of Something in the Way and then a long, awesome version of Goodnight, Irene but Felices were not around for it for some reason.
Didn't see much of the first act cuz I was on line getting in. The Felice Brothers set was pretty solid with a few new songs that I really like. I got video of a great one where three of the members sing different parts of it. Anyway, it was mostly a standard set for them and they even repeated a couple of the tunes from the daytime festival set.
Deer Tick's new album was really good. Lots of John on piano and a decent amount of some slower tunes. Really enjoyed it but couldn't make out all the lyrics so I'll have to wait for the album to really get a handle on the songs. They played a few regular DT songs after the set but before the singalong finale. One of the things I've noticed about Deer Tick's shows the last few times I've seen them is John being really cleaned up and not getting wasted. Barely drinking and focusing a bit more on the music. Was a good time though. So glad I could make it. Katymae is my savior for giving me her ticket.
Great week of music! Phosphorescent rocked the quad stage/tent in Friday, 1st time seeing them and I am impressed. OCMS, it seems like they are trying or the lead singer is trying to hard to have that "twang" sound is his singing. Be yourself, not a sound. Spent Saturday on the rail at the harbor stage. Langhone slims was great! Looking forward to him again Jim James was my favorite show of the weekend and just remember, if Jim James and Bryan Funk say they are going to have a staring contest, well do not get upset when they actually have a staring contest. Trombone Shorty was the FUNKin JAM! Loved that show. The Avetts were about as good as I have seen them, great closer on Day 2. Sunday was a lazy day, only had a few shows I was interested in seeing and only came for those shows. Lord Huron was awesome and will checking them out again. ITM was right the Felice Brothers rocked. Just wished I had more energy to enjoy them more. Caught a little of the spirit family reunion and will be looking at them more. Apparently I missed the best show of Sunday, Bambino. The Lummineers made a good time for a corn and beer break. They do not do it for me and I see them fading away next year. Then Beck. I have never seen Beck live before and not sure what to expect, but I loved it! I was at the front and glad it started to clear out, that just gave me a better view. All in all, amazing week of great music. Stange highlights that made the weekend for me: Jim James about to destroy the stand the drum set was on and Rambling Jack Elliot being encouraged to come on stage during Beck and the only open or un used mic, was the one set up for Funk's banjo, which he was not using, so the mic was only waist high. Jack got down on one knee and tried to sing into that mic, which was not working and why funk took his banjo over to the other mic. Then Beck had him stand up and shared his mic. And on Friday on the way in i was taking about Dawes playing at NFF, but not bring on the schedule. My first set on Friday was Blake Mills, never heard of, but the backing band, Dawes made for an awesome experience!
Such an amazing weekend. Jim James, OCMS, and Spirit Family Reunion were my favorites. I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed Frank Turner. I was also super happy to catch Sarah Jarosz after missing her at Roo. She's fabulous
Avett brothers just had a mini set and questions/answers at the museum stage. so good. Now Jim James is coming out soon. So awesome. the folk with funk workshops turned out to be a pretty awesome time.
Jim James was my favorite show of the weekend and just remember, if Jim James and Bryan Funk say they are going to have a staring contest, well do not get upset when they actually have a staring contest.
Truly... a staring contest... with closed eyes on top of that. Still feeling a little confused.
If anyone is interested or curious, I recorded the video of a weird conglomerate of stuff on Friday, then the Avett Brothers, Andrew Bird, Beck, Beth Orton, Black Prarie, Bombino, Colin Meloy, (last 10 minutes of) Jim James, Lord Huron, the Lumineers, Michael Kiwanuka, Jack Elliot, and Trombone Shorty.
I can't wait! Besides the obvious musical reasons to want to see it, dreamingtree said on my FB that she saw me on the feed Me, Scrog, MikeD and Jack were all on the rail for Jim, I'd love to see it!
The pictures above are just the ones that I uploaded to FB. I'll check my phone out soon and see what else I have. I don't think I have many pictures of us, so feel free to post or text me pics
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I think I saw you head bobbing during Jim's finale if you were center-right on the rail.

Facing the stage? Sorta. I'd say more towards the right. I was between two tall fellows, Mike and Jack, so their heads would be more visible. But I guess my mess of blonde hair catches the eye?
Oh... and did you all catch the mystery guests 2 and 3 in these posts? MikeD and Jack!!!!! Yiippppeee!! But I guess Facebook broke the news to most of ya! Can we have mystery guests every year?

I spotted that blonde hair during the lumineers and it wasn't a mess. My hair was a mess
Where? I was in the Fort Stage beer prison for the first half of the set and was pretty far back for the second half. I was pretty close for the first half of Beck, so maybe you saw me then?? Or it was someone else
^^Mess of blonde hair on Friday night

Did anyone see Bonnie "Prince" Billy at Newport? I saw him last night and thought it was a pretty tight show. Their set up was a bit odd because his entire band were using one mic. I get the intimate feel, but I would have liked to heard his banter more clearly. I was wondering if he used the same set up there.
