It's a great festival experience. It's not crowded. You can camp right in front of the stages or back in the secluded wilderness. Lots of added activites like disc golf, fishing, and the hike to the glorious waterfall for diving and swimming. The VIP has nice perks with shaded RV camping, free beers and a pit in front of the stages similar to what you see the photographers in at most fests. I don't think it will be the weekend before Roo now that Bonnaroo has been moved back a week. That was an excellent getaway the year I did both back to back with stops in Memphuis and Nashville in between.
That would make sense since they've been on hiatus. They're my favorite so I wouldn't mind that at all!
For those that have gone, is the wooded campground a long walk? That's the campground that sounds most appealing to us since it's shaded and cheaper than Main Venue camping.

I know it's early but...any rumors going around of who might be headlining?
I've been hearing a lot of SCI rumors. And apparently Jason gave a "maybe" when asked about it. I don't believe anything until a lineup comes out though. Luckily, Waka usually releases theirs early.
I had some issues with the scene in the campgrounds this year, too. If I end up going solo again, I'm going to try for VIP. A big crew is always a good buffer, though.

Sci at waka really needs to happen. That alone would insure my return. Such a great fest.
Also, I need a hoop clarity. I forgot to get back in touch with you after eff.

Can you elaborate on the scene at all or what you didnt like? I was hoping to get to waka this year pending the lineup
Well I was alone a camped in crack alley. From what I heard after, it was the shadiest part of main venue. There was a lot of heavy stuff going on that I wasn't comfortable with, and pretty bad wookishness in general. I won't go into detail here. I new some other folks in mv that had no probs, and I went solo in 2010 and had a great time. I just had some bad luck in where I got put this year. If I had a big crew, I'd camp mv again no prob. But solo, I don't want to take the risk of dealing with that crap again.
Clarity where's the best place to camp? I'm kinda digging the shaded wooded area, but it seems kind of far from everything else.
West woods camping is where its at. The venue isn't that big.
West Woods has tarantulas! I've always camped in main venue with a shade tent. It close to everything and I like to be able to pop back to camp for refills and costume changes and such. I'm hoping for VIP this year which is also in the woods, but we'll see. If shade is an issue, there is plenty at the stages. Two in big tents and two kind of in the woods. The main stage is the only one in full sun.
I went Main Venue this year and we got in way early... like across from VIP first row early. Worked out great, but our friends went West Woods and they hated being so far away from their campsite so I guess it all depends on how often you go back to your campsite on any given day at a festival. I was pretty surprised at how strict security was at searching bags on your way into any stage. Couldn't sneak anything in, not even unopened red bull w/out having to really stash it. Other than that, great atmoshphere, great tunes and chill people. Lots of sketchy things floating around Main Venue campsites, but that's to be expected. Nobody stole from us at least lol
That security thing is new. In 2010, you could walk in drinking an open water (aka vodka), and not even get stopped. A lot if folks complained last year because those searches really held up traffic. I hope they lighten up again.
2011 Saturday night someone blew up a ports potty with m80s and a kid got covered in poop. Since then security has been a little more strict, but I've never had a problem.

I remember this. Security went from a glance into an open bag to a full blown search overnight.
If I love the lineup, I may pull the trigger on VIP for this.
Same here. Never done VIP before but Waka's VIP seems like you get more for your money than any other festival I've seen. Heard good things about it too. All just depends on the lineup I guess...
