He won't get late night which. Not as a solo act. I love him and so does Roo but I don't think he's nearly that big for that slot. I think he'll be during the day for the solo show.
I guess I just hear that album and the style is just so perfect for a late night, and I just couldn't see him in a tent. I think his lineup position will be a bit of an indicator.
I think a Which stage daytime act (maybe closing it around 6 or 7 before the What headliner takes the stage). I think he'd be a better draw at Roo (and Newport Folkd) than other festivals so he may get a big slot. I don't think he'd do his solo set as a late night but would LOVE him to curate the Superjam during a late night slot.

I've yet to see what it's like but the album sounds like it would lend itself pretty well to a late night set. As for the superjam, if Jim doesn't curate it, I'll consider that a crime against humanity.

Along with his upcoming tour dates, Jim will also be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on February 4th alongside The Roots. The following day (February 5th) he will return to Jimmy Fallon, sitting in for the entire show as a guest performer.

Charlie Day was awesome, but your new Jim avatar/signature is even better
I'm thinking there may be a decent chance for Jim to perform a Monsters of Folk set in addition to his solo stuff. She & Him are highly likely to be at Bonnaroo this year, and Conor Oberst has been away from the farm for a few years. This would be awesome.

I keep hoping it will happen but I'm not expecting a Monsters of Folk set. Not right now. Jim likely wants to focus on his solo stuff and not distract from it (which a Monsters of Folk set may do). I'd love for it to be on the farm though.
Without being too familiar with him or MMJ, that performance on Fallon has me very excited. I'm going to get his new album but where should I start with MMJ?
Yes that performance far exceeded my expectations. If anybody follows Questlove on twitter, he was really hyping it up yesterday, mentioning that he made Jim promise to perform that at his wedding if he ever gets married haha. Quest also said this morning that it was the most beautiful song he's ever played on Fallon, which is saying a lot. I can't wait to see this solo show!

For albums, I would start with It Still Moves but all of them are good.
However, you can't really get a better introduction then this... Enjoy

Tough one to answer without knowing your musical likes and dislikes. MMJ covers a wide swath of styles on their albums: Rock, Folk, Country, Jazz, Psychadelic, Funk
"Evil Urges" and "Circuital" are the closest things to what he performed last night, so maybe start there. However, I usually recommend getting the Okonokos live concert DVD to newbies. This was recorded during their "Z" tour. It is my favorite concert recording of all time, by any band. "Z" is a great album as well and one I often recommend to friends.
The honest answer is you can't really go wrong with MMJ. I love all of their albums.
I was excited about Jim James doing a solo show. After seeing that performance on Fallon, I have never been more excited about a show. His performance at Bonnaroo could be one for the ages.
Ok, so i have always had an admiration for how freaking awesome Jim James is. But after watching that Fallon performance, i'm going to have to say. HOLY FUCKING SHIT I CAN'T WAIT TO BE SEEING THIS ON THE FARM ;LKASJFD;LKAJ sorry for the cursing, but seriously. He may have just reached cHicken's hall of fame status.
Admittely MMJ is a band Ive tried numerous times to get into and failed. But I thoroughly enjoyed the solo album from start to finish. Excited to see this performed live.
I got chills watching this. Incredible. Jim is one of a kind, I cannot wait to see his show at Roo, it's going to be legendary. Here's to hoping for a LN or a Superjam
