Thank you guys! I'll find out the name of the condo complex. I know the company is DGE Properties. I'm not worried about the area. I live in a city with a pretty high crime rate myself, and manage to stay out of trouble Does the lineup usually come out in the summer?
They busted out the whole lineup in late June last year. (they gave us a few names a week or two before that though) In 2011, they tortured us by giving us like one name a week for several months. I think they learned their lesson and won't be doing that again ever hopefully.
Oh, my! A band a week for several months sounds painful and sadistic. Whose idea was that?!!? The name of the place we're staying is The Muses. The condo looks really nice, and I think it's a block or so from Canal Street and the Quarter. We'll have a car in NOLA, so not too worried about getting around if the fest is very far from the pad. I'm pretty excited about going to Voodoo, but just realized we'll be in NOLA for Halloween!!! Seems like that just might be the best city in the country for a crazy-fun Halloween party!

It is. Frenchmen street on friday and saturday night after the fest is wild.

Nah, you're farther from the Quarter than that. It is a nice place, it's a brand new development in Central City. Unfortunately, Central City is pretty sketchy. Luckily, you're only two blocks from St. Charles and a good amount of decent bars (and the streetcar line), but just be careful walking back to the condos from St. Charles at night. And I wouldn't bother walking any other direction from those condos than to St. Charles and back. That particular complex's parking is secured, so you won't have to worry about your car being messed with or anything. I'd just use the streetcar to get downtown post-fest rather than worrying about parking.
Thanks for the info. The people who won the auction last year said it was kind of sketchy, but that's okay. It's super cheap! Will be thinking about costumes for Halloween now! Can't wait to get festival season started!
last year was the first time they did camping...don't think anyone here did it. I've done VIP for the fest the last two years and it's pretty awesome for the price.
I'm pretty convinced NIN is happening as well. Pearl Jam rumors have been flowing lately too. QOTSA makes perfect sense, but I'm not sure if they would headline or not. It would be better if they did, to maximize undercard quality/expenses. On the other hand, since I have seen all three of these bands multiple times (even though I love them all), I would rather QOTSA get the Avetts/Nas/AWOLNATION spot and let something like Depeche Mode or The Cure be the other headliner.
sur dates have confirmed for our NOLA trip! I'm going to Voodoo this year!!! I was looking at the previous years' lineups, and the festival looks like something my husband would actually enjoy, especially if Pearl Jam plays. Can somebody tell me about the site set up? How many stages, how big is the park compared to other festivals, how is the vibe? I've only been to camping festivals and Forecastle. Closer to November, I'll PM you-all about possibly meeting up in NOLA. Maybe we can have a party in the condo?!!? I was on the rail for NIN at Bonnaroo in 2009, and it was insane! The front row was nearly crushed to death from the back pushing, but seeing NIN up close was unforgettable, especially for an old lady I'm really looking forward to the lineup coming out.
This is the first year it'll be in a new spot in City Park. It's basically adjacent to where it was previously. I was there last weekend for Hogs for the Cause and you really can't tell what the setup is going to be like, as the stage installations aren't permanent. Anyhow, there are typically 5 stages. There's one big main stage. There used to be a second main stage of sorts, but the disco/untz stage (Le Plur) acts as the second main stage these days. A 3rd stage usually co-sponsored by WWOZ and whatever beer the fest is serving plays mid-tier mostly local acts. Another stage about that same size called Le Carnival plays anything from experimental rock-type stuff to bounce rap. Last year, Thomas Dolby, Tomahawk, and Dave Stewart all played that stage. The smallest stage is called Preservation Hall and plays folk, blues, zydeco, etc. It's always been really easy to get around and the lines aren't ever very long for anything since it's never that crowded. Some people complained about sound bleed from the main stage to the Le Plur stage, but I didn't care since I'm never over that way anyhow. As far as vibe, you can pretty much do what you want. People are nice. I'd say there's a pretty small summers breeze in a sac quotient.
The above rumor is on consequence of sound regarding a potential Pearl Jam headline slot. I would guess two other semi-possible headliners are Nine Inch Nails and Green Day.
Pretty sure they won't bother with KoL since Hangout got them. Muse headlined in 2010 so I don't think they will bring them back just 3 years later. Also, there's probably no way we'll get Mumforded since they got booked at Mardi Gras World in June. It is possibly they go after RHCP though. Black Sabbath, Green Day, or RHCP seem like the most likely to me for third headliner unless the pull something out of left field like Kanye West, Jay Z, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns n Roses, etc. Really hoping we get QOTSA and Modest Mouse in undercard. I'd be fine with Flaming Lips though since it's a different show now.
I've skipped the last two years and just listened from my house because the lineups were not any good (IMO). This initial lineup is already good enough for us to get tickets for at least two of the days. I'm excited to come back this year!
Love the initial lineup! Do you think they will not sell single-day passes, or just sell them later? I'm sure my husband will only be interested in whichever day Pearl Jam plays (NOT a festival guy!).
Black Sabbath 2013 Tour Dates: 08/04 – Homdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center 08/14 – Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre 08/24 – Seattle, WA @ Gorge Amphitheatre 09/03 – Los Angeles, CA @ Los Angeles Sports Arena 12/10 – London, UK @ O2 Arena 12/12 – Belfast, IR @ Odyssey Arena 12/14 – Sheffield, UK @ Sheffield Arena 12/16 – Glasgow, UK @ Hydro 12/18 – Manchester, UK @ Manchester Arena 12/20 – Birmingham, UK @ LG Arena
Doesn't tell us a whole lot, but the door is open I guess.

They always sell single day passes and I have no idea why jrslim23 thinks that they won't. Single days won't go on sale until like October though, but you can always buy them at the gate. You can even upgrade to VIP for the day you're going for like $100ish extra(they've done that the past 2 years). I'd be really surprised if they didn't do it again unless this shiz sells like 60k 3 day passes before October. That shiz ain't happening down here.
