So what are we doing, leaving about 3pm? Leaving after Break Science if all the other stuff is lame? Would like to check out Totally Extinct Dinosaurs.
Yeah, Imma leave work around 2 at the latest and we'll try to be on the road by 3pm. Also want to catch some TEED before bailing.
FedEx dropped off my wristband at the door yesterday evening I guess. They didn't knock or anything. Saw it this morning as soon as I walked out the door on the way to work. There was even a hole in that bigass envelope too and you could see the wristband through it.

Glad yall are getting your tickets. I'm still in a holding pattern with work to see if I can attend. I should know early next week, then I'll buy my ticket and pick it up at will call.
Have my hotel booked, my cash ready, just need that word from work...
So stoked to see Primus again so soon, usually a year or so in between shows. Saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco on 12/30/12, a seriously amazing show! They are jamming so hard right now, it's a beautiful thing.

So Buku sold out of 3-day passes. Well done Buku. I'm impressed that a 2nd year festival is able to pull that off.
To their credit they saw an opening in the market and went for it. I also think not making this year pure EDM helped some, but I'm not fooling myself, its the EDM kids that bought up most of the tickets I'm sure.
Buku is kind of like Ultra-lite, for those in the south who want some dance music, but can't stomach the high prices and high crowds of Ultra. It will be interesting to see how crowded it gets, last year there was plenty of room to move around at both stages, but there were still plenty of people there.
Really curious about the capacity of the festival this year. I hope I'm not going to have to be in a sea of 10,000+ flatbilled platypi when trying to enjoy some Lettuce and Primus.
Major lulz @ Flatbill'd Platypi!! hahahahahaha! All the hat pins increase their likelihood of attracting a hetty mate.
We're gonna see Earl Sweatshirt then get as close as we can from Flux Pavillion (no clue who they are) so we can be close for Primus.
Flux P is loud obnoxious circus music in dubstep form. He's produced a few tracks I like in small doses, but after watching the live feed of his set at ultra last year I have convinced myself to avoid his live shows if at all possible.

I am terrible with guessing how many people are in an area, but I'd put the total capacity of Buku at <10,000. Its not a really huge space. Having said that they also added the float barn stage this year, which judging by the building its in is a huge space.
I wouldn't worry too much about the sea of flatbilled platypi during Lettuce, most of the kids there will be at whatever DJ is playing then (birdy nam nam it looks like). Primus is a tougher call, since they are such a big name, but I still think most of the young kids will care less about Primus and more about FlyLo.
Last year was the best EDM type crowd I've seen, certainly worlds better then the crowd at Voodoo Le Plur, or at any given solo EDM artist show. I was surprised. This is possibly because it was such a chill environment, bigger crowds this year might bring more mania. But last year I didn't see anyone getting popped or falling out or anything, and generally people were respectful.
Got my ticket, and am confirmed attending Buku this weekend. Getting pretty excited. I should make it Friday in time for Primus/FlyLo.
Everyone there on Saturday (or Friday) have a beer for me on my birthday. Wish I was going but at least I'll see Public Enemy and Best Coast fo' sho @ Hangout.
Any recommendations on the best place to park for this? My nola friends said they are just riding their bikes there. I imagine it's going to be a nightmare to park friday.
You can pay to park across the street from the Convention Center. If you're trying to park for free, check Uptown from the Fest along Tchoupitoulas or in the Warehouse District on a side street like Andrew Higgins or John Churchill and just walk the 5 or so blocks in. The Tchoupitoulas bus route (#10) will get you close too, but keep in mind it probably won't be running by the time you leave.
I saw yesterday that they added comedy and other activities each day. I got really excited until I realized I don't know who these comedians are. Joey Coco Diaz is in NOLA this weekend...I was really hoping they snagged him somehow.
Tony Clifton will be judging a couple things. That should be interesting. The Air Sex Competition he will judge could be hilarious, but it directly competes with Primus and Flying Lotus. BOOOOOOO!!!!

last year i stayed in the quarter and walked. Bit of a hike, but not bad. I took a cab back at night the second night because I was tired. really i think you could park anywhere in CBD and just hoof it.
So how's this thing going? The layout looks great.
I'm here right now, taking a break. It's pretty awesome, more people than last year but it doesn't feel crowded. Tony Clifton is sitting like 7 feet from me right now. That's cool.
Primus 3D was amazing, worth the trip alone. Surprised how much the 3D element enhanced the experience. Flylo and break science were awesome as well.
So glad I didn't have to stand in will call, the line was huge and not moving at all. Like easily hundreds in line. So far that's the only big screw up I've seen.
Next for me is zedd and sander van dorn, if I can stay up.
Overall a great experience so far. VIP definitely worth it. Riverboat access, open bar, bathrooms, great VIP viewing areas at all stages.
Yeah, I don't think I've never seen that many young kids cheesedickin' it up at a festival before. I had a great time though. Lettuce and Primus ruled. We were able to get pretty close for Primus by moving in towards the end of Flux Pavillion. We could hear Brassft Punk playing before them on that other stage, but couldn't see them. Sounded kinda meh to me from that far back, but maybe it was better up close? We f'n blew it seeing Flying Lotus.
Def felt like an old creeper at this fest. It's just a little too much for me, I would go back if something the caliber of Primus was there, although they really had no business being at BUKU. You could spot the Primus fans out easily.
Buku made me moar excite for Wanee as the average age there is like 35.

The crowd at Buku had me craving my jazzfest crowd for sure. Having said that, all my interactions were positive, still a more respectful crowd than the le plur kids at Voodoo. Not that that is a high standard or anything.
Looking forward to tonight, but lineup is definitely weaker than Fri. Will catch Public Enemy, hundred waters, Kendrick (hate he conflicts with alt-j, would like to see what all the hype is about), Passion pit, major lazer or sts9, start of calvin Harris I guess, daedalus, Sts9 set 2, and hopefully am able to stay up for Dillon Francis. Actually when I write it out like that it looks like a fun night.
Primus will remain the best set of the weekend. So glad I finally saw them. I had a freaking blast at the Zedd/R3hab/flux pavilion impromptu set though.
If you think the crowd was bad Friday, it was much worse saturday. I think they way oversold it when they put more Saturday tickets on sale. It became quite a gauntlet trying to move from stage to stage at peak times. Thankfully, Calvin Harris kept most of the kids occupied for a while and we got a pretty intimate set from Daedelus with a much older crowd between Tribe sets. I wasn't stepping into the ballroom during Major Lazer because it was so crowded. Alt-J went on about 45 min late for some reason...threw things off and made me miss the latter half of Kendricks set for nothing.
Highlights of the weekend for me were Break Science, Primus, Public Enemy, and Nero. Birdy Nam Nam surprised me a lot...really enjoyed their set. Flosstradamus was way too crowded to really enjoy. Meeting Tony Clifton finally was a awesome, sadly the comedy was lacking aside from the Air Sex Comp...Diplo afterparty was as expected. I would have gladly passed, but my friend is a huge fan and didn't want to miss it.
Great festival overall...I was grumbling like an old geezer at these dumb kids though. Everyone was WIIIDE OPEN with their drug use and derped it the fuck out for a minute but it seemed like the cops cracked down on that pretty quickly. I have no issue with that stuff, but the rudeness and carelessness struck a nerve and had me hating the human race. I may have to get VIP next time around if they have the same perks...it definitely seemed like the way to go.
Likewise. Obviously we agree on the crowd. I absolutely loved the setting, though. Very cool scene for a mini fest. Don't think I'm buying presale tix for this particular one, but hopefully they do some more stuff with that area of the riverfront. I'd thought I read Bass Pro Shops or some shiz had bought that warehouse to renovate and open though.
elav8, you must've gone upstairs in the Ballroom. What a cloud that was.
