Day Two Review:
Ended up having way more fun then I thought I would. Started the day with:
Public Enemy
Damn, for a hip-hop group that's been together 25 years, they still put on a great show. Played all the hits, most notably "Bring The Noise", which I was thrilled to hear live at least once in my life. Flava Flav is a fantastic hype man, and him and Chuck D and the whole band looked to be having a great time, and that was infectious.
Kendrick Lamar
Straight up, I have listened to GKMC almost daily since it came out in September. Easily my favorite hip-hop record of 2012, and definitely a top five record of 2012 overall. But I couldn't get into the show. I only stuck around for three songs, since I knew I was missing Alt-J for it, but it was unfortunately just another crappy hip-hop show. Most hip-hop shows I've seen are bad, with some notable exceptions (The Roots, of course, the aforementioned Public Enemy, Big Boi, and surprisingly OFWGKTA come to mind off the top of my head as good live shows), but I was hoping Kendrick wouldn't be like the rest. But it was just another show with some beats and a guy shouting at me on stage. I just wasn't connecting, so I walked over to
Alt-J
Soooo glad I came over for this. I liked their stuff before, but I definitely like it much more now. They were 45 minutes late for some reason, but the show was worth it. It was nice hearing some chill, well crafted tunes played perfectly, specifically at this festival filled with lots of loud, high energy stuff. The real treat was when PHJB came out for a song, very unexpected, and definitely elevated my respect for Alt-J. When you come to New Orleans, who better to invite for a sit-in? Met a couple cool dudes while waiting, one from Knoxville, the other from Atlanta, we had fun talking about Bonnaroo and other festivals, helped pass the time.
Passion Pit
I read on here that Passion Pit sucks live, but this definitely wasn't the case this night. A great set of high energy synthpop, and that guy can really sing. Again the whole band was having a blast and jumping around and just being awesome. Big dancey set. Cut/Copy they are not, but it was still a solid set. After this set I wandered around the VIP boat for a while (loved that boat) before:
Calvin Harris
I planned on catching the start of this set before heading to Daedalus, but ended up staying for the whole set. I typically don't like cross-over EDM, and Calvin Harris's stuff before the show was no exception, but he put on an excellent set of mainstream electro house, and I am not ashamed to say I loved every minute of it. Hardest I danced all weekend. On the way home today I was blasting "We Found Love" and grinning ear to ear. I dunno, live it was just a unifying experience, had lots of great interactions with folks on the boat during the set. I would definitely catch him again. Haters gon hate.
Wrapped up the night with a little STS9. I was enjoying it way more than I thought I would, but after about a half hour I got tired and bailed.
Overall Buku was a raging success. Got a little crowded at times, and I felt terrible for the folks who waited in the will call line for 3 hours, but overall for a second year festival from a young production company, I thought they did damn fine. VIP is highly recommended if they keep the same amenities and same price point, without a doubt it improved my experience significantly.

These are the three that played saturday that I wanted to see most and I would have left Kendrick too. Yeah I saw the Buku page say Preservation Hall joined Alt-J's set...that's f'n awesome! Perhaps I'll get a chance to see that collaboration at Roo. Definitely not going to bother to see Kendrick at Hangout or Roo if he conflicts with something I know is great live. Also, I think Snoop and Nas are great live hip-hop/rap performers too. Earl Sweatshirt was better than I expected on friday.
Oh yeah, apparently there were a bunch of cheesedicks up front for Primus booing them and telling them to get off the stage because they wanted to see Kid Cudi according to this post on r/Primus: www.reddit.com/r/Primus/comments/1a1evu/primus_deserved_better_than_that_buku_bullshit/ We were about 10 people back and didn't see/hear them, but if I would have I would have probably pee'd on them.
