As the date gets closer we may or may not know the shifts/jobs we'll have. There were a few opp's to swap last year if there was a show you wanted to see. I was thinking if we know our shifts ahead of time, I was wanting to know if you all would consider getting together on here and planning some things out. I had a good job last year and great hours(VIP check-in). But, the only one I missed that I wanted to see was Tom Morello's set. They do have a swap board in Centeroo, but I only saw one job last year. It was the Silent Disco on Sat night from 11p to 3a. Anyhow, I figured I'd toss that out there.
^^^^Brilliant! Let's keep each other posted if/when we get our schedules.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

Grr, waiting on that effing waiver. How long did it take to get yours after they said they had received your deposit, Mike?
Also, I thought the deposit was what secured your spot...?
Anyway, I will be willing to swap jobs with anybody if they need it. I'm pretty flexible! Can somebody who's volunteered before give a general idea of the type of things we may get scheduled for?

My waiver was sent approx 3 weeks after I sent payment. The money secures your spot and the waiver is a legal thingy. You agree to uphold your bargain to work and not sue them if you get hurt, etc. Bottom line: no work-no money sent back to you, you get hurt/it was your own fault .
I got tasked with VIP ck-in last year. I worked 2 days of 4 hour shifts. Basically I escorted folks out to their cars and stuck a VIP sticker on the windshield. It seems like a good job for a slacker, . I ran with 3 other vols at campsite, one was pre-festie (she said she worked her butt offf). The other 2 in my group worked cleaning tables in the Jazz tent. I thought I had it made, they were in a tent with air conditioning. You get free meal tickets for the days you work. They are good for a sandwich/chips/apple. I'd advise splurging and buying a burrito instead.
One of the best perks to me was the free and sometimes warm showers. Plus, you have your own camping area (staff only). It's a little more quite and sometimes your need the peacefulness. It comes in handy if you get tasked with an early shift.
The vol job that I would consider giving an appendage for is the beer tent. One could only imagine the perks there. I worked as a volunteer in Knoxville last year at the Brewer's Jam and had a blast.
If there is anything I can help with feel free to ask in or out of forum. My email is smokingun2004@yahoo. Sometimes I think my user name throws folks off. Un4given, he's a dang metalheaded Metalica fan, au contraire.
i worked the beer tent.. we picked up cups... for about 30 minutes. then our supervisor left for the weekend and we were free.
That's what I had heard from most of the volunteers I talked to last year. They had so much help, the volunteers were almost tripping over each other. My friends in the Jazz tent said they may have actually worked an hour out ot the whole shift. ewsc, are you going the volunteer route this year? On my application I put that I worked VIP check-in last year. I assume former volunteers get a preference. If you get the beer tent again this year, we may do some wheeling and dealing if you get bad hours or may miss a show. ;D
anybody work the gates to centeroo?? what happens to the stuff that is taken . . . . . .
The gates, parking, and other security details are contracted out by AC Entertainment. They are an entirely different entity than us regular volunteers (they get paid). Last year it was FESS security. Most of them were cool if you showed the ole "staff bracelett". Rumour has it all the confiscated items ie: glass, booze, etc were collected and put into bins. Get with someone from Clean Vibes, they may know a little more. On a side note, I'd love to find some of those bins.
yeah, i know! Thats kind of a relief, cause i really didnt want to work parking, or the gates. i am even more excited. i didnt want all that responsibilty
Tell me about it, security is my real-life job. I kinda like to get away from it for about a week. My friends that heard I was going last year said "dude, you'll be secuirty at the gates, sneak us in". Anyhow, the security folks that were doing the parking detail were hating life. They were eating dust and choking on exhaust fumes.
There was an ice truck set up just right outside staff camping. The downside was ice was 2.50 for a small bag. I caught the shuttle one day to wallyworld and grabbed 2 bags, of course is was a pain lugging them all over the place. But, I ain't gonna drink warm beer. There was also a set-up that had coffee in the AM just outside camp.
So my dream assignment is the comedy tent. I havent been to the comedy tent in my 3 years at bonnaroo, and honestly i dont even know where it is. What is the least desirable assignment? A late night assignment would suck.
Not sure if there are any "bad" jobs. But, there are hours that would suck. Someone was trying to swap a 11p to 3a job last year at the Silent Disco on a flipp'in Saturday night. Those hours my friend would suck. My job last year was 11a to 4p on Thurs and 1p to 6p on Sat, not too shabby.
Comedy Tent would be sweet. You're in an air conditioned area and the comedy last year was pretty good. This year it'll be hilarious w/Chris Rock.
I am doing the volunteer route this year, im hoping i get another super easy job, or there are too many vols again. I would love to go to Roo for free and do whatever I want with the super bracelet like last year

basically it means you can walk anywhere. there are entrances in the back of centeroo you can get through, you can get to the main stage when it is closed, basically you can walk pretty much anywhere but backstage. we walked behind the mainstage while the roots were playing, pretty cool. we got in the pit for JBT because we were in the main stage area before they let everyone else in. plus you get into roo without being searched, you get into centeroo without being searched. because of these entrances staff camping is like 10 mins away from centeroo. unless they change things, its a really really sweet deal
I, too, want details about this "super bracelet" you speak of...
Welcoame aboard and congrats. Hey bama, I got to see the White Stripes at the Furnaces last year and John Mayer at the amphitheatre. I love that Alabama hospitality.
He's puts on a great show. I saw him last year. I was impressed with his guitar playing. Ben Folds opened for him. I hope everyone that can gets to see Ben Folds @ Bonnaroo, you won't be disappointed.

Ben Folds is awesome, I'm really looking forward to the show. And I'm jealous that you went to the White Stripes! I wanted to go to that show sooooo very badly but it sold out. Too bad we really don't get that many good shows here.
I'm EXCITED about volunteering now! And about that magic bracelet!

I'm doing the prefestival volunteering and am really getting excited about it. I'm looking forward to getting there before the show starts, getting a good camping spot, and getting to move around pretty freely with this magical bracelet I've been reading about. This will be my first Bonnaroo, I'm traveling alone and I know I'll make lots of friends. My real name is Luke. See you all there.

Hello Luke, I'm David. I'll be doing the during-fest (second year). Since you're doing pre-fest, make sure you bring plenty of water. I've heard that pre-fest work harder and longer than we do. If you see me around camp just come up and say hello. If I'm not around help yourself to whatever you'd like in my cooler. Just look for a green Nissan p-up. For the rest of you folks "mi casa, su casa". I hope I got that right. I think y'all know what I mean. David
