I wasn't too bummed about PTM having a daytime set before, but after seeing them Friday night it's pretty obvious they should be at night. On their last tour their stage production was simple but effective green tea bubble lights with lots of smoke. Signing to a major label and coming off their best selling album is paying dividends - the new stage set up is amazing, they have what are essentially led mountains, major upgrade. Regardless, this show will still be amazing, and the new tunes sounded great too.
On another note they posted a pretty lame photo on Instagram last night. It was a screen shot of John's text conversation where he said something along the lines of, "Bring tacos you r*tard. Don't forget sauces either dipshiz"
I was surprised to see that type of language, and it was a very distasteful thing to post. The picture has since been deleted.

Ill elaborate, I have a few things to elaborate on actually.
1.) Portugal played an awesome set this year. not like 2009 or even 2011( the new members makes a big difference but one thing remains the same. ITs GOOD
2.) for those that feel that certain members are trying to be " bad boys" or whatever the H*LL and also the language:
A. Portugal. the man have always had a certain edge about them that separate them from other bands some may compare them to. For example, from the very start the song Chicago off their first LP has the word M*ther F*cker in it, off their second full album the song At the Bottom states " trust don't pay like these guns don't fuck around" and An Ep put out called Devil say I say Air has The DEvil, one of their key live Gems that states Move BAck MFer, Heres the Door MFer. ITMITC their last album and closing song Sleep Forever even has the F word at the end of it. But even songs like We don't need you to do what we do has that may I say badassness to it. So you see the cursing and your projections of a new attitude is nothing but simple minded, uninformed slander. It has always been a part of the band and hopefully always will because that is what makes me love them. AnD, Im not done, songs like The Sun, Created, New Orleans, And I, Do YOu, All YOur LIght, and Got IT all have that same adult like feel without the use of "foul language". so new songs like hip hop kids and creep in a t shirt is just confirmation that the band is still doing what they do, with or with out you and your ignorant critiques.
B. As far as the text goes. that is just playful trash talk between close friends that have probably known each other for years. and The Taco thing. well they have a thing called feed the beat and taco bell is involved with it. so I don't see any problem, but who am I. just a troll right?
So... SLIIIIIIIP OOOON DOOWNNN FROOM THAT SUUUUN ta climb DOWN TO EARTH.

One of the best shows of the weekend. Covering "day man" from always sunny and playing helter skelter were great. awesome to see weird al come out for a song too. The secret set at the fountain was awesome!

Awesome show but too fucked their scheduling up. They need to have a late night set because they would slay that slot. I got the pit for this show and didn't even notice the sun beating down on my face as they killed it that afternoon.

Fantastic set. The new songs are awesome live and I really dig the new lineup. Was my first time seeing the new guys. "Modern Jesus" was stuck in my head all weekend after that.
Wish I could have caught a surprise set but had my feet planted elsewhere.

I loved the new songs live also. There were people around me who talked through them and pissed me off

People talking through songs can suck. Especially when they're talking about how they are such huge fans of the band playing on stage but ignore most of what is going on unless a really popular song starts up.
they were amazing for both sets. got the setlist and had them sign it at the fountain show. there were a lot of people that looked like they had no idea what was going on in the pit. which was unfortunate. when weird al came out, the people in front of me either had no idea who weird al was or were blind and couldn't see him.
This was my 6th Portugal show. As always they were awesome and I never get sick of seeing them. The Weird Al appearance along with the amazing Dayman cover and new songs also helped to keep it fresh for me. I just missed their fountain set, but did run into Zach the next day wandering around Centeroo. He was super nice and answered a lot of questions. He mentioned that the fountain set was supposed to be all covers but they all accidentally learned different songs from their list so they decided to "get drunk and go thrash at the fountain like a garage band."

I really loved the twist they put on The Home, it sounded competently different. The fountain set was a great time too. respect21 Not sure what the exact setlist was, but my friend grabbed it so I can check. It was 6 songs I think and all new tunes. They jammed out the end of PYRB for about 2-3 minutes, that was pretty awesome

I was kicking myself when I heard about the secret set because I missed it. Their Which Stage show was one of my favorites of the weekend. Phenomenal. And I second and third the hope they ultimately get a late night.
What was the setlist for the secret show on the Fountain stage? Felt like such an idiot for missing it, but I'm seeing them tonight so it helps.
PYRB Evil Friends Hip Hop Kids Modern Jesus Creep In A T-Shirt People Say
if I'm remembering correctly. they may have had 1 more song. it was all new stuff except people say. i saw them again last night, i talked with kyle and he said they'd probably be doing a late night set in 2015.
Ill elaborate, I have a few things to elaborate on actually.

thanks for the history lesson. I've been listening to the band since they opened for dredg in 06. I know he has cursed in songs before, but this still feels like he was told to do it more. the roo show was good, it was my least favorite of the 6 times I've seen them, but still good.

I walked by the secret set on the way to PHJB. I thought it was them b/c I thought I heard the chord progression from "My Head Is A Flame," but we were like "Nah, they totally wouldn't be doing that. Missed out :/
This was one of the best afternoon sets I have ever seen at Roo...such a great band.
My first exposure to them was in 2008 and I saw there Thursday show at Roo in 2009 that got me hooked on them like a drug. These guys simply kill it every time they are on stage.
Can't wait to see them have a late night spot at Roo!

UGGGHHHH!!!! I didnt know of the secret set until reading this now! Totally missed out on that.
I was hoping for RZA to come on stage for the All Your Light remix. Would be awesome for him spit a freestyle on it too. I know this wouldnt have been likely to happen but RZA was at Roo after all.

That secret set was amazing. I was right there on the front row and we got him to come back out and play one more song. My buddy was the one yelling out all the different song names to the band and convinced them since they messed up there set in Gainesville where he lives since they didn't have their drummer.
