Gotcha! I see exact ally what happened now! I wouldn't say don't ever try for pit again. Just make sure your in the correct line, and if the line is not running along the wall, or at least parallel with it, warn everyone of what is bound to happen and get them to get it right. I dunno if anyone will listen, but if they don't, start your own line.

I do not think I will ever try for the pit. Not worth it in my opinion. You can easily get a great spot by going to the left side of the field and finding a spot right behind the back of the pit. You have a great view for all of the shows and there is no stressing about people cutting in line, which always happens.
1. Generally how early do people get in line for regular shows? What about headliners? 2. Can you leave for any reason like bathroom/food/water or are you just stuck? 3. Is there a halfway decent view of the other shows going on while you're waiting in line?
My impressions sort of:
Here's how far you are if you are in the stands: I went mostly from stage to stage and never waited much for any band I was there for.
From one of the tents:
During intermissions you usually can just walk right up:
Am I alone in thinking that there is too much going on to wait in line for the pit. Several hours in the pit line seems like a long time for me. To each his or her own you know!
Edit: looking at the schedule most of what I wanted to see as already on what I wanted to see trombone shorty passion pit and wilco and I like local native well enough so time to eat some crow and say I'm going to be doing the macca pit line all day Friday the only band I really want or see off of what is Calexico and maybe someone can hold my spot for me While while I go and chec them out for an hour or so.

The longer this is pit issue is discussed, the more people out there in internet land read about this pit actually existing. STFU, people.
I think it's too late, but I share your sentiment. I noticed a difference last year with the two main headliners in regards to getting into the pit. I think the secret is getting out, and I expect the McCartney line to be a nightmare. It seems like more people have finally learned the deal.

I was there for the Avett Brothers show, I know exactly what you're talking about. That was the first show of the weekend that I tried to get in the pit for. I was confused when I showed up an hour before the show and saw what looked like two pit lines. Most people I spoke to were of the thought process that a pit line that is aimed directly towards the crowd probably isn't a line to be trusted. Whoever started the line and decided to have it bend back towards the stage, thus merging with the crowd as you got closer to the stage, made a mistake. It sucks that people who waited for a fair amount of time and should have been front and center weren't able to.
there is a pit area at which stage now? I haven't held the rail there since NIN in 09.
Yup. Left side is GA. Right side is VIP.
What are the views like for VIP? Not sure what stages you are talking about but I'm wondering for Paul McCartney if someone has VIP tix what is the view like from that area? Anyone got pics?

At Which, it is the right side of the pit, so you are right up front. At What (where McCartney will play), it is a hill to the left of the stage. I ended watching RHCP from there last year with theshining. You are not close at all but being elevated and able to see the entire field pull out lighters for Under The Bridge was pretty great. Here is a picture from another thread.

Thanks, so what's up with the guy above that says the pit is going VIP. FOS?

Maybe just changing the name of the thread to something unrelated? That could be fun. Or at least rename it the Fat Pit Lineup. Could be confusing enough

I have only been onthe rail at tents, never on the big stages. Personally, I think the sound is better further back on the biggers stages. There, does that help some of you?

I've received an e-mail saying staying that due to this year's special regulations there will be no pit lines at main stages. The pits have been reserved for 2013.

This explains the price increase for VIP! Oh happy day!

Last year was my first roo and I had no clue about the pit until a guy told me on Sunday. I went there to What during Bon Iver and waited for Phish. I was GA last year but my group bought VIP this year. I don't remember exactly but does anyone know if they allow VIPs into the pit (for the What stage) first before GA? Regardless, I had a great view on the rail but the MACCA line will be a nightmare compared to Phish.
