Again, just doing Friday night, but may hang around for the free shows on Saturday afternoon... and really, the only thing dictating my schedule at this point is difference in setlist from Kraftwerk (which I'm guessing they'll more or less be similar)
If the setlists aren't too different: whatever acts are on the outdoor stage in the afternoon > Kraftwerk > Lapalux or Georgio Moroder > last bit of Darkstar > Clark > Moderat > last bit of Dillon Francis if I'm not too tired
If the setlists are different enough: outdoor acts in the afternoon > Kraftwerk > maybe some Georgio Moroder > Kraftwerk > leave early for Moderat > Dillon Francis
At this point leaning toward the scenario with one show... but Lapalux might be impossible if I want to stay for all of the first Kraftwerk set.
Since you are pretty knowledgeable about the venues, do you think you could share your thoughts on what shows will hit capacity / how early to arrive to see certain artists, etc? Would be much appreciated.
Oh, and any food / beer recommendations are always welcome too.
To be honest, really don't know. Depends on how many tickets they sell. The only venues I have been to are Thomas Wolfe and The Orange Peel. Wolfe is a large auditorium. The Orange Peel is a large club. Not sure of exact capacities. I've been by Asheville Music Hall and it is very small (300 capacity tops.) If it's a must-see, I'd say get there 30-45 minutes ahead of time. But like I said, it depends on ticket sales, as well as how much the crowd is spread out between venues. I'm not going to worry about it. Plan on figuring it out when I get there.
I haven't eaten at many places in Asheville (or can't remember them, at least.) The only one I remember is a pub-type place down the street from Thomas Wolfe/USCC (Bier Garten?) It was standard bar fare, from what I remember. Not bad, but not great. I know Asheville has a lot of breweries and I plan on checking a couple out.
There is also a pinball museum in Asheville I'm super pumped about visiting ($10, all you can play), as well as a badass arcade with a ton of games from the 70's/80's/90's/00's (and beer)
If you have any free time, it'd be an excellent time of year to cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway, which has absolutely stunning views.
Yeah, the Bier Garden is not that good, but it does have a lot of beer choices and is really close to TWA/USCC. The Arcade closed down a few months ago. The way it was for the last couple of years though, you would not have wanted to go there anyway.

I've done some homework on the breweries and there are a few that I definitely plan on checking out. Favorites so far:
Burial Beer Co - They have an extensive list of brews, and it looks like the bar area is a make-shift garage. Only open Thu-Sat Greenman Brewery - Nice beer list. Tasting area has an outdoor patio Wicked Weed Brewing - Good food and a cool downstairs
I'd also like to make it over to the River Arts District, but not sure I'll have the time.

Those are probably my favorite 3 here. Hi Wire is also a great one, and the place next door, Ben's Tune Up, is a super fun courtyard bar/asian restaurant to check out.
Hey guys, I created this account because I need some help with deciding who to see between The Gaslamp Killer and Moderat, I've been to Bonnaroo 4 times, Mountain Oasis twice and Moogfest 2011, this is one of the hardest decisions yet! I love the Orange Peel and I was really hoping Moderat would be there, having not been to the Diane Wortham theatre I am nervous about the 500 person capacity and the theatre seating, the chairs at Thomas Wolfe have always been a turn off.... BUT IT IS MODERAT, I love their music. But I have been looking at videos of The Gaslamp Killer and it looks like the dude kills it when he plays, match that with the awesomeness of the Orange Peel and I'm having a real struggle deciding between the two. Can anyone sway me either way! THIS IS SO HARD!!
I personally love the DWT, probably my favorite of those venues... the capacity will be an issue, no doubt, but I think I'll just have to go there as soon as I can.

Go see Moderat. Gaslamp Killer is from L.A., so you have a much higher chance of being able to see him again. As for the seats, I don't plan to be sitting for Clark or Moderat, and I don't think most people, other than those on the balcony, will be either.
Can someone explain the USCC basement as a venue to me? It was mentioned earlier as the "big open area under the main arena," but I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I've been to Moogfest and to MOEMS before, so I know the venue - is this just like the main/floor section indoors w/o access to the seating, concessions, etc. around it and upstairs? Or is this something else? This is indoors, right?
If you were at MoogFest in 2010 or 2011 (missed 2012 and MOEMS), it's the area you entered the complex from on the side. Really interested to see what they do with the space. Could be a really cool venue.
Our piece of shit governor is part of the panel on Wednesday...
Yeah, I've only been from in the fall from 2012 onward (first Moogfest, then the newly-branded MOEMS, now for the new spring Moogfest) so I've never been through that area before. It is indoors/covered? You're not just talking underneath that weird rock overhang thing that juts out from the side of the bldg?!? When they said basement, I just wasn't sure what they meant and wanted to know in terms of weather, etc. as there's a chance of rain on Friday. Also - anyone know if Kraftwerk is supposed to be doing album sets, just regular mixed/different sets for all three gigs or essentially the same set three times? I haven't seen any mention from Moogfest.
Also - McCrory's out on Wednesday. Kind of funny, based on the comments from the story below it sounds as if Moogfest asked him to withdraw (why they'd ever ask him to come in the first place I have no idea???) after all the fuss about there being a protest around his appearance. But now it seems they're trying to paper it over and make it seem as if he had a simple scheduling conflict and opted to withdraw himself. No love lost from my end.
I wouldn't recommend Giorgio unless he's gotten better since November. Many people at HARD Day of the Dead said he couldn't DJ to save his life and someone had to come up on stage to help him.
Cosign. Credit due and all, but this clip below told me all I needed to know. He's not awful, but there are a couple tennis-shoes-in-the-dryer moments and lots of air key-tar and magic fingers to the crowd stuff I can do without:
House fans, don't sleep on Mike Huckaby https%3A//soundcloud.com/mikehuckaby/mike-huckaby-my-life-with-the-wave-show
I'm getting pretty impatient for the schedule as well.
Can't find a way to wedge Huckaby's set in without risking missing Moderat, which is bumming me out! Consolation prize is checking Art Department the night before, whom I'd also recommend for anyone who's into real-deal house music. Kenny Glasgow (1/2 of AD) is a legend - this Boiler Room set is a good representation of their sound...

NC local here...
Not a brewery, but if you're a beer connoisseur a stop by Thirsty Monk in downtown is a must. Downstairs are all the Belgians & sours that I don't favor, so you'll find me upstairs drinking a flight of whatever they've got on tap in the way of porters, stouts and the likes! Their tap list is always changing and never ceases to surprise me. Try their fresh baked soft pretzels with the Fat Tire cheese dip and ask for a little side of the Lusty Monk spicy/hot mustard to eat with it as well. Jack of the Wood right across the street has great pub atmosphere and lots of good Green Man brews on tap as well. You can hop from one to the other easily.
Food spots I'm fond of, some in downtown and others farther out/over in W. Asheville:
Biscuit Head Chai Pani & MG Road underneath Curate French Broad Chocolate Lounge HomeGrown Lobster Trap Over Easy White Duck Taco Shop
On my list of places to try this trip:
All Souls Pizza BoBo Pho Korean House Seven Juice Bar Stonebowl Korean Sunny Point Tacos Jalisco The Junction 12 Bones Smokehouse

I saw Kraftwerk at Iceland Airwaves last year. I was not impressed. It was cool seeing for the first time but still haven't heard anyone being blown away.
I really want to do this as well, but the fact that they only have 1 hour sets with a 2 hour gap is giving me second thoughts. I might head elsewhere and hope to still make it in for FlyLo around 11ish

I'm going to Pet Shop Boys, but I'm going to duck out before the encore to beat the crowd to the Orange Peel

That's when you just amble next door to Wicked Weed and kill a couple pints, then amble back before the Fly Lo crowd piles in
I wish there were other options, but I'm just not a Pet Shop boys fan and No Regular Play doesn't get me jazzed enough to run to/from the Orange Peel to the Civic Center and back!
ALSO - FOR ANYONE WHO'S THINKING OF GOING LAST MINUTE - I HAVE AN EXTRA 5 DAY/NIGHT GA WRISTBAND - ended up with it after a friend couldn't get off work to come after all, have it posted on CL now for $99 which is $40 less than I paid for it. Will be arriving in Asheville midday/late afternoon, staying at DTI, can potentially meet you to do the hand-off if you're interested. Email/PM me if so. Would prefer it to go to someone who'll appreciate it!

One more to recommend - Kaytranada's an undercard name for this festival, someone I'd never heard of before but am digging his DJ sets so I think I'm going to try and work him in to Saturday's events. Solid mix of old-school hip-hop, new-school Fly Lo style beats and just party-rocking jams sans the typical cheeseball DJ pandering! Plus this set is one of the most ridiculous Boiler Room crowds I've ever seen. Check the Amazonian librarian chick at 1:30 who can't seem to get enough of the camera, random dude wandering into the shot with a hairpick at 2:30, Rob Ford cameo at 6:30 (not really, but close enough...) and camera & crowd chaos at 14:00. Nice to see a BR crowd where not everyone's checking their damn cell phone the whole time

Yeah, I've been listening to his new album Kaytra Todo recently, it's very solid. Mark Farina is also a must see for me, so I'm not sure if I want to go Les Sins > Kaytranada > Mark Farina and be running around Asheville all night.
I really liked this boiler room set. The Hair pick dude had me rollin, absolutely killed it. Nice mix of hip hop, funk, and electro. I liked the Flume remix he drops around 4:20ish.

Not really into what I've heard from Pet Shop Boys, but their stage show is incredible
