One more to recommend - Kaytranada's an undercard name for this festival, someone I'd never heard of before but am digging his DJ sets so I think I'm going to try and work him in to Saturday's events. Solid mix of old-school hip-hop, new-school Fly Lo style beats and just party-rocking jams sans the typical cheeseball DJ pandering! Plus this set is one of the most ridiculous Boiler Room crowds I've ever seen. Check the Amazonian librarian chick at 1:30 who can't seem to get enough of the camera, random dude wandering into the shot with a hairpick at 2:30, Rob Ford cameo at 6:30 (not really, but close enough...) and camera & crowd chaos at 14:00. Nice to see a BR crowd where not everyone's checking their damn cell phone the whole time
He had a lot of stuff available for free on his Bandcamp page and put out a post a couple weeks ago saying he was taking it down soon. Looks like it's all gone now, but I downloaded all of it. Good stuff.
Hard to say because it's Wednesday. But Pet Shop Boys had TWA about 75% full. The basement got a little bit of a crowd once they shut down TWA. FlyLo was at capacity at OP with an enormous line outside when I walked in. Highly doubt everyone got in.
I've talked to a few people working it and they are expecting Fri/Sat to be packed.

Bout to get in the car and head up to Asheville for this thing. Never been to Asheville before and I could NOT be more excited. I actually won tickets from Festival Snob or else I never would've been able to go.

Got to tour the Moog Factory today, so freaking cool in there. Watched ADULT. record a Sound Lab performance, and also walked up on Boiler Room taping sets from Erika and Teengirl Fantasy in the middle of the factory. Instead of people dancing in the background, its the Moog production floor w/ people building synths. Really really cool.
Also Janelle Monae's discussion panel today was really really good. Only went to get some shots but ended up staying to hear what she had to say.
Tonight's schedule is absolutely insane for me. Pumped for Audion more than anything else!
I was pretty fucking frightened I wouldn't make it into the Moderat show. Luckily some spots opened up, though it helped I was near the front of the line. I can't describe how sad it would have made me to not get in this one....
On with the show! I'm freaking pumped!
edit: That show was totally worth the wait and nervousness. Easily the highlight of the weekend for this newbie to the bleep-bloops and wub-wubs. I danced so hard.

Egyptian Lover was old school as PHUCK. Mix Master Mike went from an awesome scratch set, to an EDM banger, but still had the crowd going. Giorgio Moroder was a snoozefest. Got kicked out of Kraftwerk after 3 songs. Moderat was the most incredibly beautiful thing I've witnessed in a long time. Had planned to go to Dillon Francis but I wanted to end my night on a high. Ashley Capps was even 2 rows behind me for Moderat. Absolutely incredible.
Wow, the panel today with Nile Rodgers was absolutely amazing. They played each one of his hits and he told all kinds of stories about each song. So fascinating. Then his CHIC set was phenomenal. Whole place was packed and dancing. Toro Y Moi's side project Les Sins was great. Then I got in a fight in the streets of Asheville. Ended up making it to MIA in time to snap some photos. Didnt stick around past the first 3 songs but the place was packed. Escort was tons of fun, definitely check this band out if you haven't listened to them yet, they're gonna blow up soon. Blondes were super chill, reminded me of Andy Stott. RJD2's set was the best I've seen from him. It was a vinyl set with a live drummer and bass guitar. Dude was running all over the place and slinging vinyl everywhere.

Moderate was my fave of the weekend. Other highlights were kraftwerk, Clark, pet Shop Boys, Giorgio Moroder, the basement venue potential, and the fact that there was a free stage. Lowlights we numerous technical problems, the basement venue as it was, Chic, and MIA.
Then I got in a fight in the streets of Asheville.
Who won?
He took the back of his hand to his girlfriends face. I immediately got in his face. A few furious shoves. He swung. Missed. I had all my camera gear hanging from me so I couldn't really do much. Other's jumped in, cops rolled up, and I quietly walked away because I was late to photograph MIA.

I did basically the same things that day. Nile Rogers was AMAZING. I could seriously listen to him talk all day. Chic was pretty freaking awesome too. I lost it at Let's Dance.
We got totally blocked out of M.I.A. We got there right at 10:30 and the line was a mile long. It was a lucky break though because a Moog employee started walking the line to announce that Museum of Love was going to start in five minutes. We ran down to the basement and there was literally NO ONE down there. We walked right up and got front and center. It was a hell of a show.

I thought Diana Wortham was a great venue for Clark and Moderat. Would be better if the seats were gone, but still great. At my fantasy rest Venetian Snares will perform there. That would be nutzoid.
