I pulled out my map from '07, and the Tent Only section was roughly twice the size of what it was in '12.
I can only agree with the assumption that this is to phase out Tent Only, and force people in Groop Camping for some extra dolla dolla bills y'all. That will work for some people, but what if you don't have 24 people? When you have a group of 10 people coming from various parts of the country, things suddenly get a little more complicated.
I've only done TO in '07, and got parked in BFE since I arrived Wednesday night. They kept us locked up in there until late Thursday morning. When we were finally released, TO wasn't full at all. Even later in the day on Thursday, it still looked like there was a little room to be had if you squeezed in some places. This is very different from what was mentioned about TO in '12, hardly any space available come Thursday morning.
Whatever the reason, this is a very shady thing to do so close to festival time. This should have been announced in advance before tickets even went on sale. For shame, Bonnaroo, for shame!
I just wonder if, due to the new fixtures like Groop Camping and the outrageously priced horsesh*t like on-site tents and RVs causing Tent Only to shrink so much, Bonnaroo is only stating this policy in hopes that it will simply cut down on the amount of people expecting to utilize Tent Only. As others have stated, it seems like it would be incredibly difficult to enforce this rule against everyone.
Disclaimer: Just because it appears it would be difficult to enforce this rule en masse, does not change the fact that you could still be one of the unlucky souls against whom this rule is enforced.
Blow up the comments people! Brunch will not be denied.
I am not in a mood to be effed with right now. Bombing, ricin and stupid politicians are harshing my mellow. This is the last straw, for fuks sake. Gah. Arrrrgh. Waaaaaah.
Yummy need two people and two tents do this but drop someone off w a tent over heir shoulder and let them walk in park the car, set up the second tent by the car throw some dir undies and tie up your trash bag and then walk with a wagon of gear over to tent only! Are they going to scan wristbands for people going into tent only no they are not. That way they don't tow your car.
Also the ticket contract I opted in for says nothing about forcing me to set up a tent by the car. If I were rich I would test this and park my car and do nothing else and camp w other people and then sue them if they towed my vehicle.

this will literally destroy my groups plans. 4 cars arriving at different times, and we all share my 2 ez-ups and camping equipment. if they set up a parking lot by that gate then this at least would make some sense, but how am I supposed to drive from PA, with camping gear for 10 people, and walk it all into bonnaroo with only one other person?
Although, if i park in the normal spot and start carrying my gear to TO they cant possibly just stop me because im carrying camping gear? And they can never tell a car has been abandoned because the camping space in front of it is always quickly filled, and who says im not staying at a different camp, or maybe even just sleeping in the car... This rule is impossible to enforce...
if they dont change it, f*ck them, we can just go to TO anyways. what could they do about it?

This is based on nothing but they could potentially fence it off and give you a separate "tent only" wristband or some junk like that. Sort of like a beer garden that you have to show your "21 and over" bracelet to before entering. Really hope this isn't the case.

secondary VIP basically. that would be terrible. i really hope this all gets fixed.
Flencing off tent only would work but then you need to staff the entrances. But for safety reasons they couldn't do it, what about a fire? They would be bound by fire code right if they fenced people in I mean if something happened. A least in the regular areas there are places to go if there is a fire. Not In a fenced in tent only.

Isn't VIP fenced in?
They would have to setup tent only differently them. I haven't been to vip but isn't it set up like the rest of the site with streets and stuff? And isn't tent only just a big field with roads on the upside but nothing separating the tents on the inside? Try would have to put in and enforce separating areas to ensure the safety of those in tent only I think.

this is seriously ridiculous and I will strongly reconsider purchasing a ticket this year because of it. Who can we contact about this? I sent an e-mail to info@bonnaroo.com, but is there a more suitable e-mail or phone number to contact? Everyone, please show them this is unacceptable. It is clearly not a net benefit to the average roo-goer and they are likely doing it to make a few extra dollars from groop camping and their stupid 800$ tent rentals.
This is the text of the email I sent to info@bonnaroo.com
Dear madam or sir;
While I might understand, though not agree with, the need to limit tent only to walk ups, the threatened towing does not make sense. I understand that my ticket grants me a place to park my car and set up a tent if I so desire, but not necessarily so.
Could you please explain how the threatened towing will work. I am allowed to sleep on the grass without a tent or any other sign of my presence am i not? I am allowed to sleep in my car without any other outward sign of human presence am I not? I am allowed to camp with people who are parked in different parts of the site, without leaving any other sign of my presence at my parking site, am I not? If two people come in two cars at two different times and are not group camping they can still meet at one persons car and camp there together right? Or are they forced to camp alone. I do not remember reading (at the time of purchase) where I was forced to set up a tent and actually camp with my vehicle or risk having my vehicle towed. What if I just wander around the fest for four days and take short naps during the day under trees and stuff? People without tents next to their cars are not necessarily in tent only.
This is a valid and important question and I would appreciate a timely response so I can plan my Roo accordingly.

I'm bummed for all of you TO folks, and that it could screw with brunch!
It stands to reason that if they changed the Tent Only policy so late in the game, that the Shuttle dates could change as well.
Given the shenanigans of increased security all over the country right now, I'm wondering if this poor timing is a safety reaction? They don't want abandoned vehicles, want more room for fire lanes, want uniform entrances for security checks? Just a thought.
EDIT: Obviously its hard to enforce, but at least having this in writing removes "liability"
Hopefully they start the airport shuttles on Wednesday for those of you flying in.
Even if they did, a lot of people already have their travel plans made at this point.
Horrible timing on Bonnaroo's part.
Great point! Even if they make shuttles available Wednesday night its too late for me since I already bought my airfare. Now if they would have made this announcement when tickets went on sale and shuttles were running on Wednesday then it wouldn't be so shittty. Unfortunately they didnt and were in this shit situation for now
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
As others have mentioned, we need to have our opinions heard by the Bonnaroo organizers! Here are some additional ways to do that!
Contact Bonnaroo directly at their email address and ask them to relax this policy and expand the Tent-Only Camping area: info@bonnaroo.com
Post on the Bonnaroo facebook page to make sure the organizers understand that the TO area is the only way to get together with friends from around the country: www.facebook.com/bonnaroo
Send your thoughts about why camping makes Bonnaroo great to AC Entertainment founder Ashley Capps on Twitter twitter.com/ashleycapps
Send an email to AC Entertainment headquarters begging them to have the Bonnaroo organizers come up with a better plan: info@acentertainment.com

I sent then a lengthy email asking questions about a possible parking lot, and what they expect my 10 person group to do now that our plans have been ruined... So I guess now I just have to wait.

The next FB post from bonnaroo needs to read "lulz, sorry guys, that was the best troll ever, lmao. Had to do it. That $hit doesn't even make sense and you fell for it".
This policy breaks my heart a little bit. I've done Tent Only each of the five years I have attended Bonnaroo. Personally, I can't imagine Bonnaroo without Tent Only.
Something else, tent only is going to be unbearable now without easy ups. I highly doubt many will be brought into tent only now.
This is my main concern with this new policy. If people are walking in to the festival, they will only be able to bring what they can carry aand that will likely NOT include a shade tent / EZ up. This is a MAJOR safety issue that I encourage you all to mention in your e-mails, FB posting, and retweets. Bonnaroo without shade can make for a miserable and dangerous experience.
I guess I am the only person who thinks this makes perfect sense.
TBH, I had no idea that people parked their car in car camping, only to pitch a tent in TO. That's kind of dickish. TO is not huge, and you already have a campsite by your car, you're only doing TO because it is closer to Centeroo. That's selfish IMO. You're stealing a spot that should be reserved for someone without a car, plus you are wasting a good campsite where your car is.
