Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
We still need to make sure they don't fence it in and give out special additional wristbands to tent only people and make it tent only people only! That would suck.
edit: I just sent bonnaroo and superfly an email asking whether we would be able to visit our friends in tent only. Lets see what they say. If they respond at all that is.
The towing clause is comma-spliced on, and to me seems vague in its intent, but it seems like they're trying to say "If you show up at TO with a car and attempt to park it there, we'll have it towed" in a clumsy way.
Everyone is understandably upset about the recent T.O. announcement. If you do reach out to the producers through any avenue (email or social media), please try to remain civil when expressing your opinion on how much it blows. Thanks in advance!
I guess I am the only person who thinks this makes perfect sense.
TBH, I had no idea that people parked their car in car camping, only to pitch a tent in TO. That's kind of weenieish. TO is not huge, and you already have a campsite by your car, you're only doing TO because it is closer to Centeroo. That's selfish IMO. You're stealing a spot that should be reserved for someone without a car, plus you are wasting a good campsite where your car is.
The past ten years Bonnaroo has reserved the space for folks that wanted to haul their gear to camp next to Centeroo. It's not selfish at all.

Yeah, but the intention was always for people who did not drive to Roo. People with cars simply took advantage of it.

It was also a way for people with groups to camp together... But now that they have "groop" camping and have found another way to make us pay more, they've changed the rules.
Um, no... best I can come up with right now is info from the 2005 guide, but here it is:
CAMPING ONLY AREAS We will provide limited Camping Only areas near the Main Venue and Centeroo, which will be identified on the maps you will receive as you are processed through the tollbooths. These areas will not allow cars or vehicles of any kind. All vehicles will be towed and any illegal vendors removed. All attendees will come in through the regular toll booths and will be parked as if they are going to be camping with their vehicles. Patrons will have the option to move from their parking/camping site to this area with their camping gear only - dropping gear or people off from vehicles will not be allowed. If you are interested in utilizing these areas we suggest that you bring a backpack or small luggage cart to carry your gear as you may be parked far away from this area. We will have two general stores and sanctioned vendors in these areas so procuring supplies etc. will not be an inconvenience. The space allotted for Camping Only areas is limited, and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. If you get to the site too late to take advantage of these areas you will still have the camping space that goes with your vehicle
Oh, and one other thing...can you imagine the security brouhaha that would result if you ACTUALLY tried to parachute into the festival? I realize Roo is trying to sound fresh & hip & so forth, but they really need to refrain from this kind of hyperbole in their rules announcements. One of these days some wingnut is going to take one of their little jokes seriously.
Which: Mr. Capps, sir, if you're reading this and if a staff writer position should suddenly open up, I encourage you PM me...
Yes, it's a half assed reaction. But it is why it's happening. It's seriously making me reconsidering be a member of this community.
You're right. That is why this is happening.
But can they really keep us safe without emptying every car that comes through? Heck you would have to take apart every car to ensure there aren't hidden compartments. And doing scientific analysis of everything that's there.
Every vehicle is a potential threat. Heck you could put "unnamed" white powder into a pancake mix box and there you go. They would have to do security like at the White House to guarantee that we are all safe and they just aren't going to do that. Anything less is just lip service.
"This year this camping option is only available if you don’t arrive with a car — i.e., on foot, by bus or parachute. No cars, motorcycles, jetpacks, hovercraft, no form of transportation other than your feet, in fact, all vehicles will be towed. We repeat: You must enter on foot in order to qualify for tent only camping this year!"
I think I may have over reacted. This appears to imply vehicles in tent only. Unless they mean all vehicles in a very literal interpretation of the new policy.

This is correct. They would have no idea who abandoned their car in car camping. Many people don't pitch a tent and just sleep in their car. It would be impossible to decipher the two.

this is just a terrible idea with far-reaching complications.
So they are going to have staff not only making surprise wrist-band checks in Tent-only, but also checking if cars have been utilized out in the parking lots. What a joke.
This whole thing reads like a bad press statement from North Korea seriously perturbed and this is not well thought out either. Like Jho said safety how about all the people heat stroking out from no shade? They trying to make some money how about the amount they will spend on EMT's I.V.'s etc. to rehydrate people or God forbid even much worse forms of reviving people including taking them to the hospital etc. Shade is life along with water. And secondly what about corraling people as has been stated can we visit our friends in TO? Plus a lot of peoples plans are ruined now. This really gets at the heart of things. In the past it was easy for people from abroad to come in thanks to things like helping hands thread people activly took it upon themselves to help other people get shade logistics etc. Now this is all thrown out the window there is no central area to even begin to stage such a feat. If I was from out of the country and had any idea how hard it would be to set up comfortably if I was flying in with just what I would carry this would start to become unbearable unless i was just super wealthy. Sad to say Bonnaroo has switched it's gears up to the more high end well heeled festival attendees. While ticket prices have remained somewhat steady they are finding lots of other ways to squeeze money out of the festival. But you take from one hand and the other hand does not get fuller. Those tents are way overpriced along with those pre-parked R.V.s. bordering on the cost of a low end drivable vehicle for the weekend. I suggest before you throw down a grand or two that you seriously consider just buying a cheap throwaway vehicle for the weekend and packing in all of your own booze etc. and not buying the overpriced beers and food. We hit them in the vendor sales and that is the plan! Bring in as much booze and food as you can and share with everyone turn the whole damn campground into brunch. And flip a big bird to Bonnaroo in the process make them eat the costs of all of those set up tents and rv's for one year and make that area a ghost town.
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman
It would appear that they intend to fence in tent only and give it special additional wrist bands to those that walk in because they cannot tow cars without a tent behind them because some people sleep in their car and neighbors will fill in any room left over behind a car very quickly.
edit: i only say this because otherwise it is unenforceable and we have nothing to worry about, it would be just an attempt to discourage TO camping. either they intend to enforce this policy with some kind of segregation mechanism or they do not.
i do not have any additional information about this, i am only speculating. i did not intend for my wording to imply anything else. Sorry for the confusion.

Yikes. I have never used TO, but this seems like a terrible plan for those that do. It is so close to the date. Flight and travel plans have been made. It seems hard to enforce, but I bet they will put effort into it to scare people off since it is the first year they are doing this. Such a bad plan, AC.

It wouldn't appear like that at all, actually. That's just an idea I threw out there as a possibility but it's based on nothing. Let's not assume we know exactly what is going on just yet. It's possible but saying that they intend to do this is a bit of a leap.
^ I am prone to the occasional leap. I am just considering possible enforcement mechanisms. If they do not do this it is unenforceable isn't it? Maybe this is just an attempt to discourage tent only camping with no real attempt made at enforcing it?

Yeah, that was the part that bothered me the most, and seemed impossible to enforce if they were referring to cars parked in regular GA camping and abandoned. Of course any vehicle at TO would be towed, but that has always been the case. It seems unnecessary to even mention, but of course they must cover themselves.
I do not utilize TO, but I agree that the timing of the announcement is unfair to those who have always utilized it in the past. However, if this explains the towing aspect, it is not as harsh as I originally thought. Restricting access to TO could be easily enforced, and I'm sure this policy is a result of the area being shrunken down even more. All free rides come to an end, unfortunately, and it's not that unreasonable for them to want to promote Groop Camping instead. The proper PR move would be to back down on the policy for this year and enforce this policy next year with a properly timed announcement before Groop Camping tickets go on sale. The point made by JHOinTN about the lack of canopies as a result of this policy is an enduring issue, however.

The reason to get to Bonnaroo on wednesday for our group was to get set up in Tent-Only. Now that they have decided to screw us all, I don't see any reason to arrive before Thursday since Thursday assures of a much better chance at getting closer camping.
Outsider opinion here, but hypothetically couldn't just one (or more) inforoo person(s) get set up in tent-only and then everyone else who has to camp by there cars could leave their campsite and then go hangout in tent-only all they want?..so long as they don't give an extra access wristband to tent-only peeps.
I guess I am the only person who thinks this makes perfect sense.

While I agree parking a car leaving a camping space to go TO seemed odd to me as well however.
Good campsite is not always the case, with a 10x10 space limitation, I have 4 people coming down, 1 couple and 2 singles, that don't want to share a tent, so we have 3 tents and a 10x10 ez up we woul dhave liked to use for shade add in a sitting area for 4 chairs. the space given in car camping can be too small, we have an option to bring 2 vehicles, which would give us space, but really dont' want to waste gas and polute just to gain an exta 10x10.
I would be happy to park without a space for camping, that would sold the wasted camping space issue, but allow those who need to drive to get to TN still camp TO
The language states "To qualify you for tent only". Really sounds like they will be enforcing this in some means via wristband. If not wrist band some other external measurement.
Edit: If i was trying to go to TO now I would research where i can leave my car, get a taxi van to shuttle me to the roo entrance, and hike in.. I would have my mates do this as well...

Sorry, but I like the idea of having some sort of "I hoofed it to Bonnaroo" VIP. Feels like I'm earning something for doing whatever it takes to be on the farm this year.

I checked into Nashville Airport parking a little while ago for some friends who dont want to bring there car onto the grounds. I think its around $20 bucks a day. I know its just more expences for TO peeps but your vehicle will be safe.

Funny, I thought I was already "hoofing it to Bonnaroo Tent-only" by having to walk from BFE there. It's cool until you realize that by earning your spot, you don't have shade or the supplies to be safe for 6 days.
A shuttle taxi dropping you off at the gate with all your gear can't be much longer hike then from BFE with all your gear.
Would there be an option for people not doing the Nashville airport shuttles? A place in Manchester that shuttles you to the toll booth would make sense. Not sure how you would get back though.
I'm feeling ill about having to deal with this cluster of a ridiculous issue.
