I've never done tent only and hadn't planned on doing it this year, but the thing I don't understand is how they expect to fill it up with just people walking in. I don't have any clue about the numbers, but it doesn't seem like a whole lot of people would be walking in to a festival that isn't near a metropolitan area.
Does anyone know if there are a lot of people that walk in each year?

Seriously, you all should turn on the damn news and realize not being able to place a tent on a specific patch of grass in Tennessee is not as big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
Current events have no bearing on this conversation, please dismount your high horse. Thanks.
No high horse, just think some may be overreacting.
By corporate places I mean they go into shared parking lots that have grocery stores, fast food joints, liquor stores and a walmart. They just watch where the people walk. If they walk from walmart parking lot to say Chipotle they tow. They do that without 300 pounds of gear. I think this is even easier to see people leaving their site then this example.
THIS. We have a venue here that has a Walgreens practically next door that has lookouts in regular cars watching to see what business you are going to, if it's not Walgreens, your ass is towed! I am MUCH more conscious about where I park now!
Why are people assuming towing cars in car camping areas is what they said??? I feel like that point may have been greatly over-exaggerated...
Pretty sure they mean people who try to sneak their car into TO (I'm guessing this could happen more Friday or Saturday when less cars on the roads and surveillance). People coming later often get away with just strolling up to the edge of a section that got parked an earlier day/time, I believe.
I don't think they'd have the money, time and/or space in fire lanes to tow cars with unused camping space. That person could've easily gone to a friends camp and neighbors would gladly use their space anyway... Or they don't use a tent and sleep in their car. Or...they wanted to look around before setting up. Too many possibilities and they'd get themselves in a giant mess if they towed out of car camping areas.
If they could clarify this, and how they'd know if someone walked from the toll booth vs dropped off after tolls to be closer to TO, that'd help a ton. Fence, wristband, etc. My gut says they may only just have staff on the roads and around TO to avoid car traffic there and encourage TO use for those who walked in. Not allow cars to stop anywhere except pulling over at the toll and where parked. Avoid people on foot from all directions to keep them safer from all the cars on the road.
Regardless of this new policy, I think its wise to consider moving brunch to Access so its easier to find and can spread out tables more and whatnot. I always feel overwhelmed at brunch myself and barely try any food.
Take some deep breaths...and let's make this work out. You can do this!! Brunch in Access and work out large caravans for each day and/or drop off some on foot to reserve TO space, even if drivers have to wait til Thurs afternoon to join after parked in BFE maybe?
I will do my best to inform people of what I see when I check in on Tuesday June 11th (if fenced in and will ask if other issues like wristbands, towing, etc), though I do hope they give more details by then.

They aren't going to tow anyone's car. How often do people end up snoozing at someone else's tent or driving in and finding their friends to camp with. As far as over reacting and current events, Bonnaroo is the place where we get away from these terrible things that happen in everyday life. We want to make sure that when we arrive on this magical utopia that we can camp and party with our friends.

Thank you monkybunney for your great explination from the TO Point of View. The biggest downer I see is people in your exact situation. People who meet at Roo or on Inforoo and live across the country need a place to meet up and TO was the easiest way to do so. And what ACE has been doing to TO Roosters over the past years would make me angry too so i sympathize. But I stick to my guns that if it wasnt so abused over the years it would still be an option. Now there is Groop Camping. It makes sense and like everything it takes a few trial runs to get down pact. Just way to totally disrupt nationwide travel plans 50 days prior to travel dates. All in all I hope everybody gets their thinking caps on an finds a grand solution so we can all enjoy Bonnaroo to its max.

@summerteeth214 There is usually a decent ammount of people the first day walking on site. I ask myself where from every year because im pretty sure its a long ways walk down the road to the tolls. One of the end tolls is used for walk ins and they go through security checks just like everyone else. We applyed their wristbands (which were no different then anyone in a car) as they walked in and they were on their way to TO. Cant give a # estimate but alot of solo Roosters walk in.
Side note: Im thinking they are just trying to speed things up as much as possible this year. Just the time it takes for 1 car to make it through all the BS, 40 workers/volenteers flagging you this way and that to your spot, 15 minute line backup because someones car smells like a doobie, cars stuck in mud, people running out of gas, and by the time you pass all this to your cars final spot, you up and leave it for the weekend and walk 5 minutes to tent only. One car yea ok, 50,000 it adds up to worker and festival goers alike. With the TO thing and now putting wristbands on before you enter, its just to ease the process for The Man unfortunatly.

Last year, I got parked middle of the pack. Me and my roosters walked up tent only and saw it was packed. So we walked around for a little looking for better real estate. We stumbled upon a huge empty area right next to centeroo (this was well into thursday mind you with only a few camps set up. We discovered it was access. They encouraged us to come down and hang out with them since there was plenty of room. I actually found a few access spots throughout the weekend. We eventually settled on a spot next to a wonderful couple 2 minutes away from centeroo.
I really can't imagine brunch and camping with friends to be thattttt difficult. The kicker in this whole situation is obviously the timing. Next year it should be much easier to figure out with plenty of time to plan. This year I say we just find a way to make it work and have a great time. Everyone keep emailing the appropriate people with respectful, thought out emails, and if it works, we'll throw it in the Yay thread haha.
I still don't understand how this is going to be enforced. Lets say I arrive late enough so I'm not in BFE (which will probably be quarantined like it was last year) and am still able to walk from my allotted spot to TO.
If I'm walking with my backpack and a tent in my hands, someone will stop me and say, "you aren't allowed to go to TO, you are in GA camping." I will then respond "I've been walking around here for hours. I'm exhausted and can't find TO. Can you point me in the right direction please?" How can they respond besides pointing me towards TO?
In terms of the towing cars...I don't see how they can possibly enforce that. It would take some balls to tow a car when I could have been a first timer that simply parked my car and "went exploring." Imagine the outcry if someone parks their car, goes walking around, then comes back and their car was towed b/c it didn't have a tent set up next to it.
Its quite easy.
1. RFID scans you 2. They open TO to pedestrians at 8pm on Wednesday. 3. You hire enough security to police those getting into TO until its 3/4 the way full
Now that you've guaranteed 3/4 of the folks in TO walked in, no more reason to monitor it, because those guys who have the gear at the car, there is no more room left for.
Its not that difficult logistically to do that. And if you throw in the quarantine to parking areas like they did last year till Thursday, you will have less time to worry about a invasion of car drivers.
I think you'll see security scanning wrist bands to TO until about noon on Thursday, then after that there is no need to secure something that's no longer there, space
Most folks were getting one person to save space in TO. But unless they tote in 5 tarps to cover ground and a tent, and plan on holding that space for a day, literally a day, its not going to work
Dude, you give these volunteers too much credit. They are barely trained about the grounds, and honestly don't really know where anything is. I was directed 5 different directions when looking for TO last year, and didn't even end up there, I just camped somewhere randomly with other lost souls that no one was helping. Two years ago when trying to meet up with my friends, they pointed me in the complete opposite direction. Do you really think that if you ask where TO is they're going to say that they can't tell you? Or that you have to go back to your camping spot? They're not gonna chase you down if you don't listen to them.
I'm really mad about this because of the precedent it's sending and the fact that I'll pretty much have to break rules in order to get something that I think should be supplied to me... but just thinking of how the pre-fest volunteers really are there just to get free admission to Roo, I don't expect this being much of an issue. Not only is there no way to enforce this, but no one is GOING to enforce this. If you ask someone a question, they will try their best to answer it for you, but come on, it's Bonnaroo. 95% of people there are going to be helping one another out. Even volunteers.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Concerts try this bull all the time and it completely fails to work. People broke out from quarantine last year from what I read, and escaped to TO.
But look, perception is 99% of reality. Put up a ADT sign outside of your home, burgers think you have a security system. Same thing here. It'll be a mock security situation, that's probably quite pourus and easy to permiate with minimal shady skills.
IF, and its a big if, I decide to do tent only, I will hike in with several tarps and my hiking backpack that has all of my personal gear and tent in it. I'll have her drive in and park. Quarantine be damned. Next day, she can come over with an easy up, and I'd make the trek for coolers, grill, and furniture.
This could work, because I walked in. There will be lots of bonding with folks in TO. They can't enforce a ban past Thursday at 9 am, imo
The only problem I see, is I think the camp inforoo thing would required a lot of pre planning for tarp carriers.
They won't tow your car if there is no one there. Might put a sticker on the car once a day, if you don't sign it, or remove it, they know you aren't there. Just hoof back once a day, check it clean the windows, walk back
They march you in naked as the day you were born, skin burning and half blind from that delousing shit they throw on you, and when they push you back to your car... and those tent flaps slam home... that's when you know it's for real. A whole brunch blown away in the blink of an eye. Nothing left but all the time in the world to think about it.

I see where your coming from but I disagree with you. I will stick to my guns that it was never abused in the first place according to the description of TO given on the official Bonnaroo website since at least 2010.

Exactly, it was never "abused". People were using TO for what it was intended for. It was never supposed to just be for people walking in (until this year). It was an area that allowed people to get closer to Centeroo, and have a community within a community, provided they were willing to haul their gear and be separated from their car.

The only thing that will be abused will be Access.
I have never camped in Access but wonder about it's ability to house such a large gathering. We can be crowded in TO and the last people I want to inconvenience are the people that need access. I would feel like a total d!ck if I had too many screw drivers and tripped on a guy line onto a double amputee or some poop.

So say my plan is to have two of my bros and me hoof it to TO with most of our supplies and set up camp on Wednesday while our other buddy parks the car. He would come and meet up with us at TO, bringing the rest of the supplies. Would that work or do you guys think he would have to stay at the car until Thursday morning?

You can't be serious....have you read anything in this thread?

In my opinion, no weekend like bonnaroo is complete without breaking some rules. If staying at tent only is that important to you, you'll probably make it in. If its not, why bother.

My two cents, I worked as a volunteer last year in the TO area on Wednesday and from what I remember when i left around 9pm, there was maybe 20 people setup in TO. I see no way this fills up on Wednesday, maybe early Thursday morning, but not Wednesday. Crazy idea anyway, its nice to be local and be shuttled in everyday to the main stage. Hope to be there again this year and meet some of you nice folks.

I have a plan but it will take all of us working together and some of us willing to be "drivers" while others are "pack mules".
We come up with a good spot outside of the West Gate to convene and be able to drop off all supplies necessary to get set up on Wednesday Night. If possible, each group drops all passengers and the necessary large gear (tents, shade houses, etc.)If you have cargo wagons, bring them! These "pack mules" walk in thru the proper gates and make a number of trips back and forth to cart in all of the gear. A person could stay back with the supplies to man the drop off point and watch over the gear. Once the initial group goes in, some could stay in TO and start getting set up too.
The drivers would then drive on through and park in their regular spots and make their way over to tent only when they can, most likely on Thursday. At that point, the Inforoo area will be secured by the pack mules. Once the drivers are in and have come to TO, people could then go back to their cars for their extra supplies.
This is assuming a few things: A: There will not be security access to TO (I highly doubt they would do this as it would require fencing in) B: They really can't enforce the towing policy.
Just me thinking out loud everyone and trying to come up with a way to make this work.
Going off of momofgirls40 - meet with people who are doing GA camping (aka people like me and my friends) and leave your car at our spot for the weekend. That way you can have your car inside and people that are "housing" your vehicle can have a little more space. I feel like that would be a fantastic trade if you could pull it off.

I would be willing to do that without a problem. Exchanging my 10X10 piece of real estate in return for someone making my car and spot look lived in. That's a win-win.

I would be willing to meet very close to the gates and take as much as I could carry. I wouldn't want to risk multiple trips, as this would seem suspicious.
Why can't you guys wanting to do TO, just ride in with someone camping, and have them drop you off at TO?
Great idea. Can you give me a lift? If not, I'm driving from NE Ohio, probably meeting some folks who will arrive late due to work, and I don't happen to have any friends or family in or around the metropolis of Manchester, TN who can provide me with parking and a ride. Or we could just go back to the old TO system, which seemed to make quite a few people happy, or even expand it rather than kill it.
