We should just have brunch in the cinema tent. We would easily over populate the other people who would be in it at 10am. We could get a little smuggle in food and drink chain going at the fence in the middle of the night.
How minimalist do those of you in the "just park your car somewhere and take a taxi and then carry all of your belonings in" camp actually, well, camp?
Personally, I have an EZ Up, a tent, an air mattress, a pillow, clothes, a camelback, a battery powered fan and assorted odds and ends. I believe that it took me three trips from my car to Tent Only last year, plus another trip to retrieve my contribution to brunch. I don't camp too extravagently. I don't bring food (though I do bring water), a grill, etc.
I could probably get it down to two trips from my car to TO, but bringing in a reasonable amount of water, food and, ice, and other death prevention measures (AKA shade) really makes it nearly impossible to simply hitch a ride in with someone. I've seen the prices at the general store, and I am not rich enough to even think about shopping there. Not sure where I would park anyway, since the walk from Akron, OH would exceed my allotted vacation time.
There are some hefty over-reactions in this thread...
Seriously, you all should turn on the damn news and realize not being able to place a tent on a specific patch of grass in Tennessee is not as big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
If we only cared about the #1 and #2 biggest issues of the day the world would be a very sad, very boring place. Congrats on not needing a personal life, and you are surely doing humanity a service by donating all of your time to charity and voluntarily living a life of poverty. How do you find time to read and respond to threads that you clearly find abhorrent?

We could have a "guy" working the door for us too!!!!

Couldn't you just park at a one of those houses close to the gate that offers parking, enter on foot, and be all set up for TO wednesday night? Make trips back if you have to. Parking there may cost money, but probably not more money than it is for 2 people to do groop camping.

Has anyone received a response to any emails they've sent roo? I've emailed them some serious questions about this TO issue because at least one person in my group will be walking in, and they refuse to answer them. If they're going to stick with this policy, they should at least stop the bs and respond to out questions.

Did you email info@bonnaroo.com? That address is pretty terrible about getting replies on any subject.

Yeah, but it seemed to be the only email address that was appropriate. I'll just be a d!ck and keep emailing them every few days I guess.

I've emailed info bonnaroo.com and @acentertainment.com and gotten no response. If you or anyone else has another email address I can write to please let me know. I've sent to following email, anyone so inclined is welcome to copy/paste it and send it from their email address:
SUBJECT: The Latest Tent Only Policy Change "By now I'm sure you've received many passionate and expletive filled emails about the new tent only policy. I'm taking the time to compose this email because I hope to present you with the reasons why this decision to change the tent only policy as well as the timing of its announcement is more harmful than helpful to your loyal patrons. Hundreds upon hundreds of people have come to rely on the availability of the tent only camp ground.
For as long as I've attended Bonnaroo the tent only policy was that all were welcome but you had to haul your gear to the area. For example the 2010 Guide says "In order to camp closer to the venue, patrons have the option of moving from their parking/camping site to this area with their camping gear only- dropping gear or people off from vehicles will not be allowed." And that was a reasonable and solid policy that I doubt anyone ever balked at.
Meeting up with friends that I'd made on the farm in previous years and camping together was always a big part of the experience for me (as it is for thousands of other attendees). We come from all different parts of the country, the world even, and arrive at different times throughout those first couple of days. Some fly in, some take a bus, and some of us drive. With that being the case putting together a caravan to come through the gates at the same time to camp together in GA car camping is not possible. So those of us with cars would arrive early with shade and coolers filled with vital supplies for surviving the weekend, and set up camp in TO. Then over the next couple of days the rest of our friends flying or arriving by bus would trickle in with tents and other light camping gear. It was a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. The campers who did not come in their own vehicle didn't have to worry about water and survival supplies. The people who drove could camp close to Centeroo, and the people they were parked next to in car camping had more room to spread out their camps.
By April 15 most people have locked in their plans, plans based on previous years experience. Budgets have been reliably estimated, flights have been booked and bus tickets bought. With this abrupt change to the policy less than two months before the event means all that planning is pretty much obliterated. Most of us arriving in cars will have very little chance of camping anywhere near each other. And those friends of ours who are coming via some other form of transportation are now left to fend for themselves. The group is effectively fractured at this point. It's too late to try to come up with a practical alternative solution.
Which brings me to the real and very valid complaint that I and everyone else effected by this share. The timing of your announcement. When all of us purchased our tickets there was nothing to suggest such a drastic change was going to be made. Had we had any forewarning when tickets went on sale we could have and would have opted for groop camping. But by the time you made the announcement groop camping was already sold out leaving us with no options and that is what is so incredibly unfair and infuriating to us. The lack of any explanation or response from the Bonnaroo team is not helping matters either.
I strongly disagree with this policy change in general and I believe it will do more harm than good for the people it's suppose to benefit. No shade canopies, no large coolers filled with ice and water, no sharing of any real resources that bring relief from the sometimes brutal and dangerous TN sun. Many of the people who are arriving on buses and plains were not expecting, and probably will be hard pressed to afford living out of the general store for 4 days. But I can understand this new policy. It does make a certain misguided sense. It's the timing of when you told us that has proved to be disastrous. I'm just one person. There are hundreds probably thousands of others who share my sentiments.

I know online petitions are malarky, but maybe this is a topic to start one on? Not everyone is going to take time to write out an email but signing an e-petition takes no effort at all and may be a better way to show SP/ACE just how many people do not agree with the way they handled it. Certanly more effective than posting on their facebook page "#%$@# YOU BONNAROO, YOUR NEW TENT ONLY POLICY ^%*%$#&%^#%$ SUCKS!! *#&*$^^# YOU!!!"

Somebody somewhere has had to heard back. I feel like we need a live Press Conference. Hosted by Weird Al.
Like I said in the other thread since I do not like this new policy I have just decided to ignore it. Camp inforoo will be in the same place and if they can actually tow my car from GA camping go for it. However I am not really worried about that.

I plan to do the same, just ignore it and see where the chips fall. I seriously doubt they will tow cars from GA. But just in case I plan on taping a sign to my car saying "Moved to camp Ferris Beuller to camp with friends" before I make my illegal migration to TO. I'd just prefer that I don't have to break any more rules than I plan on breaking to begin with. I also think that while whooping it up in TO the idea that there is this slight possibility that your car is being towed could gnaw at some people.
I'm going to go ahead and create an online petition. It can't hurt. They all seem equally silly but anyone got any suggestions as to what's the best place to do it? I keep coming across change.org, seems legit.
I posted the text of my letter on the Facebook Inforoo thread. A few moments ago someone named Amanda Person commented that she is the social media coordinator for AC, that they have heard our concerns and are working for a solution. She is asking for time for that to take place.
At least someone has acknowledged hearing our complaints on this matter. Now the ball is in their court.
If they don't give a better explanation of their towing policy than this
"This year this camping option is only available if you don’t arrive with a car — i.e., on foot, by bus or parachute. No cars, motorcycles, jetpacks, hovercraft, no form of transportation other than your feet, in fact, all vehicles will be towed. We repeat: You must enter on foot in order to qualify for tent only camping this year!"
they might have a lawsuit on their hands. This is not a clearly defined towing policy when parking is included with your ticket. In my opinion, Towing cars from GA is probably not going to happen without a more detailed towing policy fully explained or there might be heck to pay.

@luvdatroo I think the "all vehicles will be towed" line hearkens back to the original policy that any vehicle dropping people or gear off will be towed. @zenfnp , I wont say awesome, but that is the first piece of good news I've heard so far regarding this debacle. It's a start!

I still contend that the worst-case reading of the TO policy to mean that "abandoned" cars in GA will be towed is based on the bad grammar/comma splice in that sentence, and that it's not actually the intention of the powers-that-be to communicate the policy in that fashion. Honest to God, in the absence of any other specifics on how they're planning to police this, I wonder whether they're not just going to leave TO admittance up to the honor code.
And if that's the case: WTF? Has the person/people who wrote this policy actually BEEN to Bonnaroo?
Post by th3int3rn3t on Apr 23, 2013 11:04:49 GMT -5
The towing things is just a threat. Sure they'll tow cars that are inside tent only... But not the cars parked in GA. They simply have no way of proving the car is abandoned.
It's only a threat meant to scare off all the rich bros, hipsters, and first timers who aren't going to think twice about it.

HOORAY
That is a big negative on the Horray! They have been aware of our displeasure from the beginning of this whole debacle! They want time? we have to have time! Time to change airline tickets , arrange alternates to the shuttle bus, time to sneak people into TO so we can have Brunch etc. etc. This has been a debacle from day 1 of it. Ashley Capps replied to my twitter the very first day and they are just now getting into looking into this over a week later? There are only 50 days left and a lot less then 50 if you are on the road traveling etc. especially our European bretheren a big shout for Belgium! and the Canadians etc. a last minute policy change will create even more of a clusterfuck then leaving it like it is now and us trying to even fathom what is going on we have no map to even know where TO is going to be so mull that over. This sounds like we are going to be stonewalled and they are sick of our "negativity" on the issue. Typical beurecratic milarky. I say we full court press especially now in the 11th hour for clarification. People spend a lot of money flying in etc. and deserve a solid answer. I say we not give them time and just keep on with what we are doing now.
