I'm putting my two weeks notice in today. Can't take it anymore. I have nothing lined up, just applications out. But walking in to a note from my boss blaming me and the other baker for something she hasn't done all week that we do every fucking day was the last straw.
My mantra today "I will be professional." Cause I definitely was ten feet from just walking out and saying fuck it.

Good job on both keeping it professional and knowing when enough is enough regardless of whether you're totally secure financially or not. There comes a time where the money just isn't worth it.

Coming back to work after being on break for the holidays and then subsequently out of the office sick for the better part of the last two weeks... I'm climbing to the peak of email mountain.

Sometimes, my supervisor says things to me like, "you're a rock star" or "you're a superstar" when I do good work. I believe that he genuinely means this as praise (because I am, in fact, pretty awesome), and I certainly appreciate being appreciated, but when he says these things, I just cringe because I feel like I'm being talked to like I'm four years old. Am I just bitter and ungrateful, or is this actually cringe-worthy?

LOL, do you like him otherwise? I think maybe he's just trying find "fun" ways to say "Hey you're doing a great job", but I can see where the cringe comes in because that's an odd way to address another adult. Does he talk to everyone that way?

In general, yes, he's a good guy, and I do think he says things like that to the other people on our team. I think you're exactly right, and I really do appreciate that he wants to give me positive reinforcement. But the one that brought it up today was because I agreed to switch my day off next week from Monday to Friday, so it wasn't like I even did anything out of the ordinary. I just wasn't disagreeable.
I think he picked it up from our former boss, so I'm kind of surprised he doesn't realize it's irritating, but maybe he doesn't even realize he picked it up from her. I could probably tell him, and he'd take it fine. We've worked together for six years now, and he's pretty easy-going, but I tend to avoid things like that, and it's such a minor thing, that it hardly seems worth bringing up.
Fuck these oil prices. $26.55 a barrel? That's insanely low. And it looks like it's going lower with Iranian oil coming online.
The rig I follow is being stacked, no more drilling. Can't imagine anyone in this area is going to start drilling again til prices are in the $40-$45/barrel range. And that looks to be pretty far off.
So basically out of a job atm. Guess that's motivation to get back on that job hunt grind.
Guess that also makes the decision about Bonnaroo a little easier too.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The economy has taken a tough hit around here. I hope this affords you the opportunity to chase your dreams to Colorado or get more experience/education in the field you wanted to follow.

I have to say, I get frustrated sometimes, but I really do appreciate that I can tell my supervisor that we can't get a vet appointment until 2 in the afternoon, and I can come in for a few hours, but would prefer to take a sick day, and he will just tell me to take the day without any problem at all.
My supervisor is going on vacation for three and a half weeks starting tomorrow, and I'm kind of filling in for him. It's a little bit nervousing.
When your supervisor returns, please come fill in for me. These past few weeks have been awful. I finally just had to have a good cry today when I got home.

Oh no! I'm so sorry it's not been going well so far. Hopefully, things will even out and get better soon! We spend so much of our time at work. It's bad enough when going to work is just boring or not where we want to be; it's terrible when work is actively bad.

I have an all day activity in the field that I have had scheduled for a week has been postponed the last five consecutive work days due to delays is sapping all my motivation to get things done at work. It just throws me off to be prepared to spend an entire day somewhere the next day then have it get cancelled the day before half an hour before I leave work.
Also, when we travel, we can stay basically anywhere and get reimbursed to a certain dollar amount. We try to stay in the same hotel as it makes logistics easier. After I tried to book at a Motel 6 (that was had 4.7/5 stars on tripadvisor), my work partner books the hotels for all of us and we pay individually when we get there. She looks at the maps. She makes the calls. She puts all the rooms in her name until we get there. I have no issue with this because I don't really care about the hotel aside from a certain amount of cleanliness. We went on a trip last week, and another co-worker stated he didn't like the hotel she booked because the area wasn't pedestrian friendly and he didn't like the amenities. Did he offer to find another hotel for when we go again next month? No, he full expects her to just find another hotel. He said he was "busy" even though he is fully aware that everyone in the office is just as busy as he is. She decided this morning that she's going to book a hotel wherever she feels like it, and he can book his own if he doesn't like it.
Soooo the infuriating, score keeping, barely mediocre co-worker I have bitched about for years (sorry friends) actually quit!
Her last day was supposed to be next Tuesday but I found out COB it was actually today instead. (A longer story.) YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY.
Her final act of passive aggressive asshole behavior, while on unscheduled telework, was to disappear into vapor without so much as a kiss my ass. Adios pendejo.
As heard in the video above, the alarm at my job decided to go haywire today for an hour, and instead of closing like any normal place would, we had to stay open, and even with the cacophony of the alarm people still came in, and ordered food, and SAT DOWN AND ATE IN.
I have to put up with shit and loud noises all damn day. Nobody listens worth a shit either. To top it all off, you have to keep everyone on a leash or who knows what they might end up doing. The scariest part is that it seems that at any given time someone could snap and just attack me. Other than that, being a veterinary assistant isn't too bad.

When I signed up for this job, I signed up to be out of town for work really a max of three times a year and probably just twice. I am currently looking at going at least once a month for the first third of the year. This is garbage.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I love traveling for work. Bring it on!
If I didn't have kids, I would be more about it, but it is proving to consistently cause issues with childcare as schedules get coordinated.

So I noticed the manager for another department cleaning out someone's cubicle today. This is unusual but not really since I had heard previously that the employee wasn't terribly happy. As procedure dictates when someone leaves, we get told the new door code. After this, I find out that the employee didn't come in after Christmas. A few days after that, their manager gets a call from their significant other stating they had been in a car accident after Christmas but it wasn't major and they should be back at work by the 4th or 5th of January. This is the last they heard from the employee. Fucking weird.

Every few years I have something similar happen. Someone will have a family or personal emergency of some sort and there will be contact at the beginning and a promised return date. Then they just dont show up or answer their phone again.
I always wonder why they just dont call and quit or tell us to fuck off or anything.

Agreed. It's not like they can really make you come to work or anything. Seems strange to me to just dip on a job like that when you've worked there for years.

Not to be morbid, but did you check the obits?
That's a fair point. My partner said that she wonders if the significant other has the employee buried somewhere.
