I am so tired today and my heels last night killed my toes. My left foot second toe is still numb from my shoes (I injured it last year and it is hating me today). I am supposed to be getting the book ready to go to print tomorrow but I am so unmotivated. I have however done a shit-ton more manual labor today, have only eaten two cookies and two donuts in two days and am ready to crawl under my desk and sleep for a year. Can someone please close the book for me so I can take a nap? I just want to sleep, rest my muscles and eat real food.
I also want to say that I think it is totally unfair that we had some of the best restaurants in the city serving dishes and I once again got none of it. Why do I even plan this thing again?

With Friday being my last day, my give-a-fuck level is pretty low. This is difficult because there's still lots to be done... but instead I'm depersonalizing my office.
It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the years.

One of the people in my office keeps their cube completely free of any personal belongings in case they decide to just say eff it one day and walk out.

Since I don't have a "real" office or cubicle I don't have a ton of stuff at my desk, since I am the first thing you see when you walk into the office. All my pictures are printed on regular paper and I only have my coffee mug, chewie finger puppet and roofus that I would have to take if I took that route. Well I guess all my meds in my desk drawer, but they are all replaceable technically, if push came to shove.
Your co-worker must really hate his/her job and it feels like they are maybe looking for an out.

Kind of wishing I went that route now... I'll have much less personal stuff at the new spot, since I won't have my own office anymore (literally the only downside, oh and paying for parking again).

You will have to pay to park? Does your new job pay so much more it doesn't matter? Parking is so expensive in NOLA, I could never take a job that doesn't offer parking.

They like it alright. They have had some disagreements with their manager which have gotten heated in the past (but have calmed down over the last year or two). Those were the main impetus behind the idea. Their significant other works here too, and they don't think the sudden departure would ever actually happen.

My office is full of personal stuff, and I definitely prefer it that way, but it's going to be hell moving out of it if I ever find a new job.

University, everyone pays! I remember being shocked when I found out that even professors pay for parking, after seeing one of mine in line at the cashier's office.

I think i's only $36 a month.
Oh that isn't bad at all. Where I park is $275/month...I know because I pay the bills for the office, I actually pay $1375/month for all our employees. I wouldn't be able to afford to work here if I had to pay that each month.
Anywoo, congrats on the new job, I hope it is amazing!

Wow, that's a lot! When I worked in Atlanta, my job didn't pay for parking. I think the garage in our building was like $96 a month, and I thought that was a lot, but it doesn't seem so bad in comparison. I didn't park in the garage, anyway. There was a marta station nearby, so I almost always took the train to work. I really miss being able to do that.

Parking is expensive in the quarter. We could probably get cheaper, but it would not be in a covered garage and I'm not sure how much cheaper. But even street parking in the French quarter and CBD are $2/hour from 6am-7pm. So you work 40 week, that's $320 a month, plus the chance of tickets if your late on feeding the meter. The long hours are supposed to help generate money from tourist, but you gotta have workers to take care of those tourist. It really hurts our service industry people. Not everyone is luckily enough to have a job that pays for parking.

parking downtown minneapolis was expensive as shit too. my first job downtown didn't compensate at all - and you were screwed either way. Either you paid monthly parking (that was about $250/month) or you take the bus, which is $5 a day if you're riding "peak" hours - which you most likely are. to top it off I was on an intern/entry level wage. and people always asked why I had a second job during that time...
I just got an email from our Corporate Office with the subject line of "URGENT!!!!!"
Good Morning All, I can not emphasize this enough.....No employee is to have the number to corporate office ! If there is anything that they need they must go through their General Manager, i.e. , paperwork completed, copies of pay stubs, anything and everything must go through the GM and then the GM can contact corporate office. We have been inundated with phone calls the past couple of weeks from employees. Any employees that have been given the number please let them know that they are not to call here anymore.
Please remember going forward that NO EMPLOYEES are to have this number.
How are they not completely embarrassed by this? God forbid you actually talk to the people that work for you. Such an awful company...
I spend an hour or two in the car every day driving to some remote locations, which means plenty of music listening time.
Good news/bad news sort of situation. My coworker only listens to the Octane channel on Sirius, they are "pure hard rock". It's fucking atrocious. Filled with bands like Seether, Chevelle, Of Mice and Men, and other bullshit.
I try to combat the awfulness by playing my music every other day. I ask him what he likes, and he always tells me he doesn't care. He just listens to what is on the radio.
So I just stopped caring what I think he might like, and just started playing my weird shit that I like. I think The Knife and Flying Lotus might have freaked him out a bit

Whaaa? On a university campus? Your overlords' benevolence abounds! I park over a half mile away in a neighborhood to avoid taking a second mortgage.

I had no idea it's such a bargain Luckily it is, because all the surrounding neighborhoods are permitted for residents only.

The garage outside my building is $3 an hour, max $12 a day, or $900something for a semester. The best deal on university parking is a giant lot about half mile away from $250 a semester, $160 for the summer. So if I'm gonna be walking my ass, I ain't paying $660 a year to do it.

When I was in school, I refused to buy a parking pass because the lots were pretty much always full, so you'd pay and then have to drive around forever looking for a space. There's a neighborhood on the edge of campus where a lot of students/young people live that is basically just all street parking, which is why I sometimes say that the one thing I really learned in undergrad was how to parallel park.

I am so glad to know that not just New Orleans fucks people with parking.

I lived downtown on gay street for a year and normally just walked through world's fair (plus most engineering buildings were on east side of campus anyway). when me or the roommate would drive, we would just find a spot at a meter and throw away the tickets, because those were paid to Knoxville and not the University so they wouldn't put holds on our student accounts or anything. Never bought parking passes though because yeah, it was pointless.
then we wised up and moved to 17th and White, right behind the walgreens on the strip. only downside to that was we couldn't run errands or anything during class hours or we'd lose our spot on the street.

man richmond is a stickler for parking tickets - they will boot your car if your ticket is paid 30 days late, and then tow it 3 days after that. last semester I forgot about a couple tickets I got right right after moving there and almost had my car towed for it.
on an unrelated note, pretty sure I've been in that walgreens before.

In law school, when I'd run out of patience looking for a street spot, I would sometimes park in the pay lot at 17th and White until I got booted in it one day. I'm not saying it's impossible that I forgot to pay, but I'm pretty sure I paid, mainly because I always did. But it was before the pay meters for lots like that were automated and gave receipts, so there was no way for me to prove that I did.

You have 90 days to pay here. It increases by $20 every couple weeks. So by the 90 day mark, your $20 ticket is $80 and now you are eligible for booting/towing. They don't fuck around.
