I have cleaned up my act recently and laid off the corn and the bar, but I know for a fact that I easily spent several thousand dollars a year on corn. Easily. Lets add in going to the bar three or four or five nights a week. Every week. That's a lot of VIP tickets heck it's a rlars spot. Don't knock bonnaroo for selling VIP tickets or people for buying them.. They were 1450 right? That's 30 dollars a week For the 51 weeks that aren't roo week. I could have saved thirty dollars a week back in the day by not going to the bar one of the four or five days a week I would go to the bar. I bet a lot of us spend thirty dollars every time we go into a bar including tip.

We did VIP in 2007 and were underwhelmed. At that point they still included food with the tix... all the meals were the same every day; the "air conditioned" lounge was not; the bleacher seats for Which were pretty weak and the VIP hill for What seemed pretty far away... Is it better now? Where can I find a thread outlining what all is still happening? (Sorry in advance for the ignorance but searching for "VIP" brings up a crapload of unrelated threads)
Look in here, everything you need to know should be covered.
Which Stage is one I try to avoid unless an AMAZING act plays their simply because of the sound issues I usually find there.
I did this last year, and was better off for it. Devil Makes Three was the only Which act I had to catch and it was fairly empty. This year my must sees were Wu Tang, Edward Sharpe, and Of Monsters and Men and all of them turned out very dissapointing. I actually had a decent spot for all of them, but it still wasn't enough. Note to Bonnaroo: I shouldn't have to move close to hear Wu Tang, I should be able to hear that shit from space!
The only non-Which shows that bummed me out was Gov't Mule. Just too slow, and no suprise guests. I agree Wilco could have been better, but it had it's moments. I saw Mike Bibiglia Thursday night and that was a train wreck. One thing a comedian should never ask an audience is what old jokes they wanna hear. He also heckled a bunch of people leaving halfway through his set, pretending they were offended by his edgy routine, when actually they were just tired of watching him bomb for 15 minutes. The guy before him (Michael Che i think?) was pretty funny, so it wasn't a total loss
The only set that disappointed me was Mumford and Sons. They only played one of their own songs, and I don't mind a cover or two, but almost an entire set of Jack Johnson covers was a little weird.
I'm a fan of Wilco, but they just don't seem like a What Stage band. I was bored as could be waiting on Macca. Could not get into A-Trak having been blown away by Pretty Lights the night before. Thought Capital Cities was kind of tacky staying on stage to pump up the crowd while a remix played over the sound system, and way too many covers.
Before this thread, I had no idea just how fortunate I was to get into VIP area by the soundboard at Which. I could hear Of Monsters and Men and Grizzly Bear just fine, and XX and Pretty Lights were highlights of my weekend. That's crappy of Roo to book big names on a stage without adequate sound for large audiences.

Doesn't Capital Cities only have a 6-song EP? I assumed there would be a lot of covers
I wondered the same about Deap Vally as the don't even have an album out yet.

Good point. I'm only familiar with Safe and Sound thanks to AltNation. Someone else in my group wanted to see them and I tagged along.
Weird that you say this. In my 5 roos, I think I have only seen one or two non-headliners do an encore.
Saw at least 5 this year myself. David byrnes, billy idol, 21 pilots, etc, etc
I loved 21 Pilots encore. "Big bands lie to you when they say it is their last song. We aren't going to lie to you. We will play one more after this if you want it." "One more song, one more song, one more song".... Oh what a great show.
Probably had more to do with the stage than anything.
maybe it was that idiotic 'give the mic to kids on acid to close the set' thing they did. awful shiz.
Wait wait, please elaborate, I was rocking out at Tame Impala, which was amazing, and I heard only great things about the ESATMZ show, so can you or anyone else explain exactly what you're talking about and why it was so awful? Please and thank you

Here's what I don't get about the Which stage: during the day you can barely hear it in front of the stage but yet from the camp sites you can hear everything pretty well. I couldn't enjoy Of Monsters and Men nor Grizzly Bear too well due to the sound issues, yet from pod 5 I could hear Grizzly Bear and Wu-Tang as though they were performing a bit away from us. What gives?

i walked up after swans ended to get in line for the byrne pit. ed sharp et al started playing home (which is to blame for mumford by the by) which was fine until the band stopped playing. my friend in the ed sharpe crowd told me alex? whatever the lead singers name ism had jumped into the crowd . they started hanging the mic to random people in the crowd to tell stories. only problem is, by sunday, most bonnaroo goers are so strung out that when put on the spot they mumble out unintelligible shit. so there's a whole lot of no band and mumbling into the mic. then some girl grabs the mic and starts yelling 'put the cameras down! put the cameras down! (which i don't necessarily disagree with, but the whole time i'm at the show i'm far left and up, basically parallel to the front of the stage. i'm under the impression someone in the band is losing their fucking mind yelling at the crowd). anyway, right after that, someone jumps on the mic and starts talking about how their dad had cancer adneveryone was like, what, i'm at bonnaroo noone here has cancer stop killing my vibe bro, then he said, but he doesn't have cancer anymore and everyone cheered. then the band started playing home again like nothing happened. fucking bizarre.
then i saw the largest hippie exodus imaginable, thousands of hippie kids running away from byrne toward the national and tom petty.

generally when you can hear which from camp it's because what is not running and there is nothing nearby that contends with the sound on that level.
when you are in centeroo there is much more noise 'muller stage, sonic stage whatever tent.

hahaha, thank you, I had heard they do something like this at other shows but no one had told about it at roo, I'm glad they all ran to the national, don't get me wrong, I love the national, but its David quacking Byrne!!!! I didn't get up close for that show simply because I knew how much I'd want to dance and be all over the place and couldn't bare the thought of standing in the crowded pit and not being able to dance. So I just got right behind all the people that were standing close together and danced til we burnt down the house!!!

that byrne set was straight fire, no pun intended.
the pit wasn't too crowded (lots of older folks) and when you're in the pit it feels like the show is just for you.

That is one of my few plans for next year that I want to change about this year, I didn't get in any pits for the what or the which, and never got ON the rail in any tents, though I was very close for a couple shows, like second or third row I'd say.

There wasn't a disappointing show, per se, but I was really looking forward to seeing Mattew E. White on Sunday. He had to pull out because of vocal fatigue. I wish they book him next year. Powerful, moving artist.

I was in the pit for Byrne too. That show was excellent.
I'm not even really a fan but I thought Macklemore was disappointing. Especially that nonsense at the end of the show where he dressed up as David Bowie's long lost son. I don't get it.
I see a lot of people saying they didn't like araab's set, I thought it was awesome! You also have to remember he got shot a few weeks before Roo and cancelled almost all of his dates except Roo. I'm pretty sure he was still recovering so it makes sense that he wasn't going crazy on stage.
I enjoyed his set, save for the overly aggressive crowd, but he never really goes crazy on stage. He always has that really still, focused look. I've seen some interviews with him and he's a pretty quiet, reserved guy. I do think one thing that would help his live show would be if he had a camera or two set up above him pointing down so you could see all what he was doing.
Most disappointing for me was Maps & Atlases. The stuff they were playing sounded nothing like the old stuff that I knew. Kendrick was a bit disappointing but I kind of expected it to sound how it did (watched him on the Roo stream last year). A friend in our group was all about Twentyone Pilots but I just couldn't get into it. Such an awesome year though!

You're the first person I heard that wasn't into the twenty one pilots show. IMO it was the best show I saw all weekend.
I also caught a little of maps and Atlases, and was disappointed so I just left.
Bonnaroo would be fun with bad bands all weekend I think.
The sound for Japandroids was terrible at the back of the tent. Bass drum was too loud, the vocals were barely audible, and the guitar was way too distorted. It could also be because of where I was standing.
