WTF @ these set lengths...and lack of post-headliner options. Not very satisfied with this, though admittedly I didn't look it up before purchasing. But seriously..

Having a 2 AM curfew doesn't really let you get lots of post headliner options. Apparently their version of the Silent Disco is open until 4 AM every night and there's stuff going on in the Hubs until then as well.
I'm actually pretty good with this - a few bummers like having to miss Beck and Young the Giant to get spots for Outkast and Foo's but other than that I pretty much just have to decide which bands I'm leaving early to get spots for others. It could have been way worse for me with conflicts I think.
Also I'm stoked that they moved Childish Gambino back to Sunday and put him opposite Jack Johnson.

im going that Friday mianly to see the Foo Fighters. There is like an hour and a half gap from Arctic Monkeys til Foo how close do you think we should be able to get in that time period?
This schedule is great for everything I want to see. Hopefully Foo Fighters will go for a little more than 2 hours. I was worried of Friday conflicts for me, seeing as I'll be camped out at the mainstage most of the day for Foos, but everything works out fairly well!
Anyone who has been before, how is navigating between stages? I saw an old map, but it was hard to gauge the distance between stages.
The walk from main stage to lawn stage will be pretty long- at least plan for 20 minutes including foot traffic. They did change up the layout this year so it'll be tough to gauge just how different but traffic flow last year moved relatively well.
The fest is quickly approaching. Whose got major clashes? I'm looking at Young the Giant vs. Band of Horses (probably head for the latter). Also, The Weeks vs. Twenty One Pilots vs. Geographer and Sleigh Bells vs. Beck (again, probably making the latter). I'm thinking of really just skipping Imagine Dragons (incredibly average bad) and hit up Tune-Yards. Does anyone know how they are live?
I've got Bleachers and New Politics, Grouplove and Sleeper Agent, and Phantogram/Broken Bells. All in all with the amount of bands I want to see - 29 by my schedule - I lucked out with conflicts. My biggest issue is that a lot of the shows run into one another - so if I'm not feeling a certain band I think I'm going to bail and explore/get a good spot for the next band and if I am, I'll stay and be late for the next show.
I think I'm also going to have to be more relaxed during the day Friday and Saturday, despite the amount of shows I want to go to, so that I can make it through Girl Talk and Pretty Lights and still be alive. So I may just take in a few shows by plopping my ass on my blanket and enjoying the music.
ill be there friday to see Portugal the Man, Acrctic Monkeys and the Foo Fighters. AM ends about an hour and a half before FF how close do you think i should be able to get to the foo fighters that early?

Well if you're staying at AM, and had a decent spot there, you should be able to move up for a real good spot at FF. The key is holding that spot and not having to use restroom/get a drink/etc.
Has anyone here done both Roo and FF? I am wondering what FF camping experience is like. Since it is in Dover, I feel like you won't have that "excluded" feeling that Manchester provides. When I did 'Roo, it felt as if I was detached from the outside for four days. Does FF provide that same feeling? Or, does it feel more "escapable" so to speak?
Yeah i've done 1 bonnaroo and this will be my 2nd Firefly. Bonnaroo is Bonnaroo but I though the camping wasn't bad at Firefly. I do the premier camping because the 20 extra bucks is more than worth it for having prime camping all week. last year i was maybe 50 yards from the festival entrance. You definitely aren't in the middle of a farm since you'll be camped next to a nascar track and a highway (though North camping, which is new this year might provide more of a Bonnaroo feel because it is in the middle of the woods). Once you walk into the festival its definitely 'escapable'. Great venue for a fest IMO
two questions. im heading down tomrrow around 2:30 from South Philly near the airport and i know even that early there will liekly be traffic bcuz of the fest and 495 being closed, does anyone think it will take longer than about 2 hours?
also how much does beer and food cost inside? im assuimg 7/8 like most festivals are
only went friday for a few Portugal songs then headed over and got a good spot for Arctic Monkeys who killed it and was able to get closer for Foo Fighters who were hands down the best show i have ever seen and even topped OutKast who previously held that title for me just a month prior. The fest is a damn hike after you park though and def pretty disorganized inside and was it me or was there a real lack of bathrooms? walking from whatever stage Portugal was on to the main i could not find a bathroom anywhere.
I was actually really impressed with the festival. The bathrooms were consistently clean (way cleaner than my 'Roo experience). I did not find anything disorganized, but was actually surprised at how organized and well placed everything was. I will be attending next year, because it is a great 'Roo alternative only an hour and a half from home. I camped in lot 18, and the entrance was right near the mainstage. It did appear if you camped in anything by the speedway that the foot traffic was much higher. I'd recommend premiere camping (only $20 more) for those going next year.
1. Arctic Monkeys (was rail - it was the only band I attempted to be close for) 2. Grouplove (they really surprised me - this was the Coffeehouse set) 3. Foo Fighters (the encore killed it) 4. Bad Things (a lot of energy with a small crowd for "Shawn White's" band 5. Twenty One Pilots (ridiculously high energy with these guys)
I felt like this was the polar opposite of last years fest, sound at the main stage was amazing all weekend, it felt full but not bursting at the seems like it was last year, portos inside the fest were amazing all weekend, you could always find one that had little or no line, the new marketplace was nice (but small) if you had a few minutes free, traffic was great this year compared to last years clusterfuck. Camping vibe doesnt compare to roo, the walk in from anything other than "premier" was freaking horrible, and the dust was extremely bad (and I was at a dustaroo...this was worse...i see bonnaflu in our future). But for a fest thats only in its 3rd year this one was pretty freakin amazing...GO REDFROG!
Some ups and downs to this fest, but overall I had a great experience. The layout of the Woodlands itself is great. I love the stages, there is shade everywhere and everything is so accessible. Nothing seems spread out or too far away. A lot of bass if you were right in front of the stage, but sound was superb from the back. The crowd was my least favorite part. I'm only 25, but I felt way out of place amongst most people hahaha. People get fucked up on all sorts of things at Roo, but everyone was just getting drunk at Firefly haha. Bros were in mass and college chicks were everywhere. It wasn't anything deal breaking obviously as I still really enjoyed my weekend. I had interactions with a lot of cool people.
I've seen Foo Fighters many times now and they made this show a very special one. Never have I seen them do an encore of covers and even under a hilarious fake name. I've always been up front at every show and I can't tell you how much fun the guys were having the whole time. The looks on their faces, the way they carried themselves. It was special for me to watch. This really seems to be the last show of the 'Wasting Light' era. Dave knew that going into it so I think that's why they decided to do something so fun. They loved it, I loved, the crowd loved it. Definitely in my top 5 favorite Foo shows.
Definitely different from Roo, but not unpleasant.
Pros: The portos were always clean, in and out of the fest. Only a couple of times was the seat covered in mysterious liquid, and poopage was minimal. I did premier camping, and walking in and out of the fest was a breeze. Very easy for me to leave the main stage, grab a quick beer/apply sunscreen/whatevs and then be back in with a decent spot before the next act starts. I found the sound to be good at all the stages, and I enjoyed being able to find shade at any given time if I needed it. And since it's smaller overall, it was a nice change of pace to not have to walk an eternity from one part of the fest to another.
Cons: the crowd/vibe. It was a big frat party, which just isn't my scene at all. I'll take my stoned hippies over drunken bros any day. If I had a dollar for every time I heard an instance of sexual harassment... That being said, given the crowd's composition, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of douchebaggery in the crowds themselves. I didn't go to the rowdier shows, but the bros up front at Beck were enjoyable to be around, which was nice.
Top 5: 1. Outkast 2. Beck 3. twenty one pilots 4. Kongos (never heard of them before but I liked their set) 5. Kaiser Chiefs
I mostly went to this fest because it's only an hour an a half away for me; I wasn't really crazy about the lineup. I'll only be back if I really care for the people playing.
